I meant in terms of the villains being obvious villains
I didn't know he sold out either lmao
Some of his villains changed quite significantly actually...
Well first off, Venom is an 80s character, not a 60s one. *pushes up nerd glasses*
That aside, Venom hasn't been a villain for ages. It's the reason they introduced Carnage in the 90s, even, to give Spider-Man a symbiote villain that can never be redeemed.
Venom the symbiote no longer is part of Eddie Brock, and has changed hosts multiple times over the years, going to Mac Gargan (whom you might know as the Scorpion, another one of Spidey's villains), and then to Flash Thompson (whom you might remember as the guy who bullied Spidey in high school). Thompson at this point is a war veteran with amputated legs, and the symbiote is restoring those to him. He was working for the US government as a special ops and since then has become an Avenger, a Guardian of the Galaxy and a steadfast ally to Spider-Man. Venom at this point is a proper hero, not even an anti-hero like Brock's Venom was.
Speaking of Brock, after the Venom symbiote left him, he struggled with his cancer until a fabricated symbiote called Anti-Venom was given to him, who also cured the cancer. As Anti-Venom, Brock's goal was to destroy all symbiotes. This was partially because he felt responsible for Carnage, since Carnage was his offspring. Anti-Venom begrudgingly allied with Spider-Man a few times as well. Once the AV symbiote was gone, Brock took over the Toxin symbiote (who is an offspring of Carnage iirc), and is doing anti-heroing.
Norman Osborn and Doc Ock have gone through similar changes, the latter in particular. Superior Spider-Man was a thing, after all.
Neither are heroes right now, as far as I know, but they're not the same characters as they were in the 60s.
