Saw someone on NYC subway playing Switch. The Switch has made it.

I saw someone playing a Switch while waiting in line for a movie. That was the first time I had seen a Switch at all, and in public. But he was definitely a big fan. Playing Zelda with a Zelda-related t-shirt.

I only play portables in my house, feels weird to take it outside when I'm having a social life i wouldn't waste spending my time outside gaming still pretty sad imo, unless for some one or two minute casual games at random times

Riding an hour on the train can be boring when you're by yourself. Nothing wrong with having a gaming device for entertainment.

I have you all beat.

On the NYC subway I saw someone playing the Japanese version of Dangan Ronpa on a PSP. He was balancing the PSP on the top half of a 3DS and reading a translation from the bottom screen of the 3DS (this was before DR hit the states.)

Should've taken a discrete photo on your phone. Make sure the shutter sound and flash is disabled.

I havnt seen anyone playing Xbox in a subway for a long time now...

I understood that reference.

I actually play it all the time on the train. A few days after Mario Kart came out, I actually spotted another guy playing it as well.

People tend to be very interested in it, actually... There was this guy who sat next to me and his girlfriend, but ended up paying much more attention to me than his girlfriend lol.

Seen pretty much every portable everywhere...because they are portable. Couple Switches at the park in the past months or so.

I remember when the original iPod Shuffle came out with the hanging Sport Case. I was in the supermarket listening to it while I was waiting for an order and I saw this other guy walking through the store doing the same thing with the same setup and we both just gave each other a nod and thumbs up at the same time.

OP, where was your Switch?

When I last went to Tokyo I heard someone playing Zelda BOTW on the plane.
I knew exactly who it was , it was the chunky guy with cargo shorts, big walking boots and a destiny T-Shitt. He also had shiny black died hair on a ponytail.

About 30% of the westerners in Tokyo look like this.

Which part was the joke, the talking about weapon degradation or the talking to a girl?

All of that part. I thought it was obviously a joke, because why would someone go up to a girl, high five her (?!) and then talk about weapon durability?!

Which trains are you even riding that you don't see portables in public? Hell, I still see people playing the PSP on NYC subways. Saw a dude doing it about two weeks ago. Game looked like it was Madden.

I don't know why it would be different by line, but I've taken the subway thousands of times, and it's definitely not a common sight.

Jesus. I busted the Switch out in the subway for the first time twenty minutes ago and thought I had been spotted.

Edit: it's not too common anymore but I saw plennnnnty of DSes and PSPs on the subway in olden times. Still see the 3DS or DS still occasionally.

I just played Street fighter with a co-worker during a coffee break at work.

But I don't understand the necessity to make a fuss out of it.

what went wrong

Can you imagine a person in one in the biggest, richest, diverse cities in the world might use a gaming device in public? One and only one person? And it was seen by somebody else? Now that's what I all winning. Go NIntendo, go.

I've seen someone playing a Vita on the NYC subway before. Talk about a rare sighting.

The Vita made it b o y s

Vita means life.

I see quite a few PSP's too.

Will get a successor announced at E3 confirmed.

Seriously, its Nintendo latest handheld. Its bound to happen. With it selling as well as it is, I would hope to see at least one out n about.

Real question is....did it make it back home with her....

The Switch clicked for me when I was travelling with friends, having nothing to do for several hours in transit in an airport, yet being able to play mario kart with them on the same system. As more major local multiplayer games come out such as smash bros or fifa, this system will become a local multiplayer beast. I was put off by Nintendo's pricing initially but the system is actually great, they're onto something here if it's properly supported.

I mean.....how do you meet new people as an adult outside of work or a bar except over common interests? When Pokemon GO was big plenty of strangers asked me if I was playing Pokemon and we bullshitted about it, and it wasn't nearly as obvious as a big ol' Switch.

I don't see it as weird and if they actually did talk she apparently didn't either. Outside of the high five I don't find anything too strange in this story. But I'm a friendly, outgoing dude.

Thankyou for this OP. If it weren't for you, we'd have no idea the Switch was selling well.

People ask me why this thread was made, and I will just quote them this post.

Seen it a few times and on the metro north.

Where you been, Commish!

Funny, I was just on the Metro North this past weekend and I really did wish I had brought my Switch for some Disgaea time. I just don't have a case for it. I think a multi hour train trip is the best portable gaming time possible.

Pretty rare I'd say. I commute from Queens all the way downtown to Wall St. and have seen a 3DS/Vita maybe a handful of times.

Yea I was also gonna say depending what part of the city, town you're in, it can be rare.

When I worked one bus ride away from work, like a 10 minute drive if I drove...I carried my Vita with me.

Where I live now, I take my headphones off before I get to my stop, phone goes in pocket.

Plan on getting another Vita soon, and hopefully a Switch next year. If I'm still in the same neighborhood...they will never get taken out the house unless I'm taking it to the car.

whats the big deal? i seen the 3ds, vita, and the switch(first week all in zelda swag) on the mta lol. I myself play my 3ds during my long commute on the subway.

Geeeez y'all are mean! Whether or not OP was joking, he makes a good point. We can read all the stats, reports and press releases, but often it's a small, personal occurrence that really solidifies reports of success.

To me as a local new yorker and a commuter on the mta subway its seems pretty normal to me. I just expect handhelds are more common in metropolis with a mass transit system from my personal experience ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyyyyyways, as I mentioned I see people on Chicago transit occasionally play, with one fellow Switch player. I do get a lot of looks, though. I recently moved and it's much harder to play on the train than the bus.

Have brought my DS/3DS along with me on many an NYC subway ride. Haven't taken my Switch yet though.

I've seen quite a number of people playing games on NYC subways over the years.

I saw someone jacking off on the NYC subway on my way home from a bar last night. Therefore, jacking off in public has made it.

I see Switch/Vita/3DS at least once a week on the 7 train

You've obviously only seen the rare few early adopters, as I've yet to see that yet. Men embarrassing themselves to get women's attention, on the other hand, has become a major success out here on the BART in the East Bay.

I've seen tons of people playing 3DS on the NYC subway. Hell, I saw a guy playing Wario Land on a Game Boy Pocket like 3 days ago on the G train.

Also, I was playing Zelda on Switch back in March and the guy sitting next to me tapped me on the shoulder and started giving me tips on how to complete the shrine I was in (he'd played it the night before and got stuck).

During my daily commute here in NYC the last 234 years, it's been pretty rare to see someone playing a handheld system on the subway. Maybe two times a year. To be honest, I haven't seen any handheld the last year or 2, though, as everyone just plays games on their phone.

That said, last night, there was a girl playing Zelda on her Switch. I gave her a high five and we discussed all our favorite shrines, and we readily agreed that having weapons break after 1 hit was totally the right way to go, and we hoped every other game incorporated that mechanic going forward.

Seriously though, I thought the chance of seeing a Switch on the subway was near 0. The weird thing (to me) was that she just put it into her backpack as she left the train. I'd want a carrying case for that badboy.

Da fuk?
