SDCC: Last of Us movie announced.

Cool, but what are the odds this film will ever get made? It seems like every video game movie announcement of worth never goes anywhere. Whatever happened to the Metal Gear movie?

Considering it's a Sony game and a very big hit, the movie will totally be made, no doubt.

Whoever they choose to play Joel and Ellie will need to have good chemistry on camera together. If they are smart they will do the casting with them together.

I know it's not what's happening but we already experienced the serious version of this story in the game so if they did do a dark humour take on the story with Sam Raimi directing and Bruce as Joel, it would probably be my favourite movie ever.

Normally I'd agree but this has a very different feel to it. It's not like most where a studio jumps on the rights for a popular game and just sits on them. Sony and ND are actively pursuing this, hardly any of those other phantom game-movies ever had time and posters dedicated to them at a Comic-Con panel. The fact that Neil is already openly discussing casting means this is moving along nicely. Sony will want to capitalize on this fast while people are still talking about the game.

The story can easily fall flat on it's face in movie form. They reason it's so praised is more because of how it's delivered in a game format and the personal experience from the player justifying decisions made story-wise. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. If they are going to take the story from the game for the movie, I really don't see it being as impactful in the movie world as it is in the gaming world.. If that makes sense. The production values will most likely make up for a somewhat mediocre story and a possibly more crowd-pleasing approach.

Why is the thread title still unchanged? Movie got announced in March, together with news of Neil making script and Reimi producing...

A, relatively, low budget film about the end of world. It can be done well cheap.

Why is this a thing? Why?

TLoU is already cinematic, removing the interactive elements in my opinion weakens the overall experience and impact.

Because it's probably not specifically for gamers? Because they want to make a film for, ya know, the billions of people who don't play video games?

Sam Raimi? Really? Is this confirmed?Sam Raimi is the last person I could think of to direct a tlou movie. Not thrilled with Masie either. Bruce is cool though. But I cant help but think the movie is gonna take on a lighter note.

He's not directing.

Joel isn't hard to cast. Elle is harder but Maise isn't a bad choice.

I was hoping for either Hugh Jackman or Dylan McDermott

Neil should practice his writing a lot more if he's gonna be writing it.

sappy pls... dude sucks, he can't act.

Also, greaaaaaat news, will watch for sure.

If that GoT girl is the lead i'm not sure really.. She doesn't project the same image as the game girl. She's playing a boyish wild girl in GoT, not for nothing. Ellie is more the pretty young girl who becomes violent. I'm not sure the character would work the same..

HUGH JACKMAN + ELLEN PAGE PLEASE

Some of you aren't even thinking about actors, just picking the people that visually most resemble the characters to you.

I don't mind Jackman as Joel but even if Ellen Page was younger or looked like Ellie (for the record I actually don't see much resemblance) nothing Page has done would convince me she is right for the role (not saying she is a bad actress - just not the right fit).

After playing TLOU and Left Behind I have the exact opposite of opinion when it comes to Ellie. She IS a boyish wild girl.

Did we play the same game? Based on her attitude and language, she is sorta like "tom boyish" and not anywhere girly at all. She is actually nothing like a typical girl. I think, in her reality, she is mentally strong and acts older than what she is due to the circumstances of her world.

But I wouldnt want that GoT girl to portray Ellie. I think the girl who does Hit-Girl would be best.

Blah. I remember when the Bioshock movie was announced with Verbinski at the helm. Everyone involved was very enthusiastic about it being made.

That was six years ago.

I don't really agree with you. I'd say both characters are rather similar. They both are tomboys and learn to deal with the dangerous world that surrounds them. And they both become dangerous enough to fend for themselves.
