The chip shortage is expected to endure throughout most of 2022. If gamers who want a new Xbox right now are struggling to obtain one, what makes you think it would be any easier for these supposed PS owners you claim would be wanting to transition to Xbox?
i have seen xbox series s consoles on store shelves.

The daily price fluctuations of an uninvolved party's stock subsequent to an acquisition tells us absolutely nothing about what will take place in the future.
They absolutely do.
Your initial comment read like the logic of a fanboy. If you are not, then I am even more confused as to where you're coming from with all of this.
I'm just an interested observer. Because im saying that going forward i personally think COD will go exclusive doesn't mean im cheering for xbox, im just saying thats what i think will happen.

He sure did and that was just as bad.

But didn’t he say they would keep on publishing Activision Blizzard games on Playstation? Iirc I saw something like that just after the news was out. To me that says new games will keep on coming to Playstation. It’s a mess of a vague message really.
Phil wants to be a nice guy, but he's a cut throat businessman just like everyone else.

This is him just a year and a half ago. Two months later he bought Bethesda and 7 other studios and promised he would continue to publish them on PS. A few months after that he made them all exclusive.

This has been his rallying cry for a while now, but what comes next takes aim at the console exclusivity tactic employed by certain organizations.

"Sorry, I am a bit soapboxy with this one,” Spencer continues, “I find it completely counter to what gaming is about to say that part of that is to lock people away from being able to experience those games. Or to force someone to buy my specific device on the day that I want them to go buy it, in order to partake in what gaming is about.” Clearly, Spencer is talking about Sony and their PS4 exclusives, but the same could also be said of Epic Games and their aggressive signing of exclusive titles to their platform.

No they really don’t, it’s what they rake in off gamepass per month. Double the user base one month already offsets any PlayStation CoD sales it’s a drop in the bucket to the $70 billion.

I can’t believe some people are still in denial here, new CoDs after 2023 will be exclusive end of discussion.

I’ve had 3 Sony only friends ask me which Xbox they need to purchase to continue playing. I can’t wait for this, can turn off cross play and end hackers finally ruining games from PC.

You explain gamepass to them and it’s mind boggling, wait so $10 a month and I get to play every new CoD and hundreds of games for free? Yes.

These are nothing but casual players, they buy consoles for the best FIFA CoD NBA experience that’s it, and there’s 10s of millions of them. Grinding dark matter, diamond etc these players will migrate to wherever CoD is, there is no loyalty to Sony the exact same way 360 was the place to play CoD.
Bro on Xbox you have to play against pc. Good luck finding an xbox only lobby late at night and sometimes even at all. Ps5 is the best place to play WZ.

I’m just reading what is said, I shouldn’t have to think even for a second what this means, it’s their job to do the PR right and give a clear message to gamers and they’re failing at that. Go look at any forum or Twitter or youtube news video out there and this discussion is going on everywhere, and you’ll see that there are PS gamers posting that CoD will keep on coming to PS.
That's only because those people are dumb or in denial. When Wall Street learned of this news, they knew exactly what it meant, and Sony lost $20 billion in evaluation before the deal even closed.

Again, Ms can't say otherwise they wont own the company for another 18 months. If they did what your asking, it would be terrible PR for both the Bethesda deal and this Activision one.

What do you expect? "Hey we just bought bethesda fuck you playstation gamers!" (obviously not in this language) Not happening, better to do it one release at a time.

Exactly.

Turning off crossplay means you don’t have to play with PC. There’s still millions of players on Xbox, make the game free on gamepass even without numbers going up have 25 million day one.

Sony CoD fanatics will buy an Xbox.

I'll never understand how people can cheer for these corporate guys. Phil, Jim, whatever...they all have the same job: keeping investors happy. Not you, the consumer, lmao.

Lol

I’m nothing but an uneducated viking near the north pole and it takes a few minutes just to write a post like this in english, but I would 100% give a more clear message than Phil. I like him because he’s a gamer and not the typical suit. But he needs to upgrade his PR skills. If he can’t say anything because the deal isn’t closed, then why is he talking? The initial assumption with no vague talks would be that everything is exclusive, just like when Sony buy a studio. But with MS it’s never that clear.

Could it be like bethesda and other studios? Yes

Could it be like Minecraft where XBox players get the priveleges day one on gamepass? Yes.

I mean, Microsoft could just still let PS have it... at 70 bucks and no sales, year late DLC and stuff.

They will honor existing commitments. So just like with Bethesda.
Once these deals run out, bang.
But why? I can get honoring Deathloop and Ghostwire tokyo commitments. No one really cares about those games. But CoD is the main reason you bought the damn thing. Just the cut the cord and take the hit on the fine. CoD didnt even have an exclusivity contract anymore. All map packs are free. It's just a marketing deal now. The fine to break the contract cant be that much. Marketing deals themselves cost around $50-100 million. the fine should be much less than that.

So many people are discussing whether or not the COD userbase on PS will migrate to another ecosystem if it does indeed become exclusive — sure, perhaps they will and whenever that happens, it will be the real test of how strong COD is. So far, it's been a strong IP that has been available on all relevant platforms but that reality is what is in question right now.

Well we know if sony allowed gamepass they would get all xbox games so maybe MS is hoping to corner them into allowing it.

Sony would still get a 30% cut but that would be an absolute last resort.
Yeah, that is certainly a possibility. We'll see.

I dont think they will let warzone on PS5 be just as good as on Xbox.
Halo and sea of thieves are not on PlayStation so its not the same
I dont think Microsodt, or Sony, are that petty to be honest, and that invested in console warz.
I mean isnt Skyrim Anniversary actually better on PS5, i think thats what people were saying in the DF thread.

Also people really need to stop using Minecraft as an example. Research that deal, Google it. Stipulations were put in the deal that Minecraft, and all future Minecraft related games, had to release on everyhting, and that was the only way they would agree to the sale.

Are you sure its that high?. I rememebr some analyst was quoted on here around the Bethesda deal that to break those kind of contract is only like a 60k fine, so nothing really. It was speculated that Microsoft would honor the deals just for simple goodwill and keep the backlash as low as possible.

Its not about being petty, its business.

Warzone is estimated to make $5.2 million a day, its a big draw. Microsoft are going to use every opportunity to recoup there investment.

They will have people caculating what is the best move financially, having benifits for warzone players who play on xbox while also keeping the game on PlayStation is imo the best move, because they keep the community reasonably happy and also create motivation for gamers to play on xbox.

However im open to other ways you think they may do things.

Wow. thats nothing. I would pay that $60k fine and throw in another $6 million to a charity for blind dogs to avoid any backlash.

Oh dont get me wrong, they will 100% make Warzone better on Xbox, or more appealing, but i doubt it will be anything to do with making the game look or run worse on PS5.

Actually i may of missundertood your post buddy, i thought you were talking about graphics when you didnt actually stipulate that.

Why didn't they take the crown over a decade ago? Who has the crown on switch since there is no cod? You say it like it's so easy. Nah, a large chunk of those ppl will buy an Xbox
COD has always been available on PlayStation.
If/when it vanishes it is only natural that something else will come and fill that void.

it is coming to Game Pass. No need for Xbox hardware.

Most will just stream it. Not many can afford both consoles.

So Playstation will continue to get exclusive content for the next two CODs despite MS owning Activision.
That's actually some funny shit.

But then it’s gone besides maybe warzone when contracts end. MS also got the console marketing preference when MLB forced MLB the show on Xbox and Gamepass.

I dont think so. Unless sony make something, but they have not had the best track record with FPS games especially there MP component.

But imo warzone is likely staying on PlayStation.

I imagine it will be like the 360 gen but on steroids, where COD was on ps3 but most people played it on the 360.

Explain the drop with Vanguard then
There's a lot that still play the previous entry if the latest isn't upto snuff, my lot haven't moved on from cold war, zero interest in WWII.

watch the gigantic uptick on MW2.

Seems very unlikely.
Its not going to be some mass exodus from PS5 to Xbox, but there will 100% be some casual gamers that switch. You would be surprised how many casuals literally only play COD, or Fifa. I know some myself, Reddit is full of them.
So yeah we are not suddenly going to get Xbox selling twice as much consoles as PS5 this gen, in fact i still believe PS5 will win this gen, but i wouldnt be surprised if a few million casuals swap systems.

EDIT. I mean think about it, if what you think was true, why do these companies pay millions for exclusivity deals?, why would they spend millions if it has no effect?.

Doesn’t even have to be from a first party.

I agree, some will switch. But COD isn’t as infallible as some here make out. Most will just move on.

Agreed, but i'd put the number a little higher.

You don't just shit out a game to replace Call of duty. Many have tried all have failed. Titanfall anyone?

Some will yes, gamers pretty entrenched in the Playstation ecosystem, but move on to what?, especially the casuals who literally only play COD?.
Hard to say which at this point, could be anything. New IP’s included. This is an opportunity for devs to get a ton of money so you can bet many will be trying for it.
