Silent Hill 2 is the best remake of all time.

So this is "disqualified" for changing an outfit (which subjectively better looks btw), but RE2 is the king despite changing or even cutting way more stuff? Okay...
The outfit was more than just aesthetic.

Resident Evil 2 was made by Capcom themselves. The DNA, so to speak, was still there. Bloober is a different team in a different country who never worked on anything from the series before. I believe that counts for something. You may disagree with George Lucas changing things in Star Wars but it’s still (was) his to do with as he pleased.
They haven't changed anything except the face. The same undertones and story are there. I feel that a lot of those who misunderstood the original story or don't know it are just jumping on the bandwagon of "she looks like Mulder from x-files lol" when it's really not the case. I'm against DEI as much as the next reasonable, same person on this forum, but if there is ever a character to ever complain about being de-sexualised in a remake, it's Angela from SH2. If anyone has a problem with it, then they haven't played the original or don't understand the story. It's a non issue.
I was gonna respond but you caught it.
Apologies, original reply was misread, you are on about Maria, have you played the original? Do you understand what Maria is? The nurses are James' representation of sexual attraction, not Maria or Pyramid Head.
I have played the original many times. Big fan. Maria is also a component of James’s sexual frustration, in my eyes. She appears as what a part of James wanted Mary to be but instead she was bedridden and sick. Pyramid Head (Red Pyramid Thing) is James’s punisher.
REmake is the GOAT-remake. It will never be dethroned. Released in 2002 and is still a benchmark.
How could I forget? You are correct.

Fantasy Zone II DX is the best remake of all time, but I wouldn't expect the unwashed masses to understand.

My guess is bloobers inevitable sh1 remake will be bigger, higher budget, and more expanded (old silent hill and central silent hill) and will be super grand

Nah Resident Evil 1, Demons Souls and Dead Space have been the best so far.
See you can argue that ‘reimaginings’ require more risks and work but they often lose a ton of what made the original so good. RE2/3/4 Remakes all suffer from this despite being good as does Silent Hill 2. Honourable mention to Shadow of the Colossus, it retained all of the majesty and mystery of the original.

Going to borrow this.from a good friend of mine if he ever gets done.

He's basically a weeb and loves SH, RE, and any Japan developer and games like Bloodborn..

Says it is absolutely fantastic. Waiting on PRO to get here to play it

Absolutely not, though I would say other than the awful redesign of the female chars, this remake is smart in a way that does not really replace the original. Gamers would have to buy both as the gameplay is quite different, leading to very different feeling of the same title. Same thing for the ff7 remakes.

I really wish Konami would find a way to bring some homecoming devs back. If silent hill is going the more action approach then boss designs like homecoming would be awesome. It had some of the most memorable boss fights among all horror titles. Having them in future remakes or new silent hill sequels would be super awesome.

Alright so next order of business:

Remake James > OG James
OG Mary/Maria > Remake Mary/Maria
Remake Laura > OG Laura
OG Angela > Remake Angela
Remake Eddie = OG Eddie

Are we in agreement gentleman?

All the remake models and performances are better. By a mile.

Only thing that OG did better in isolation was both Marys' Hallway Dialogue & Marys Letter. but that was never being topped and I'm glad it was a different tone.

If it's better than the Dead Space remake, well okay then, I need to check it out. Just waiting on the PS5 Pro patch announcement.

THEY FUCKING LOOK LIKE THE FUCKING VOICE ACTRESSES SEEK FUCKING HELP

Do you like funko pops?

Btw her jaw is also proportionally bigger than her voice actor model, as usual in those cases.

Not to mention that I didn't ask for Maria to look like a random voice actor, she should look like she did back in the original game, not like some middling 40-something. It completely fucks up what the original game was going for.

This is what I love about forums. Absolute trash tier takes like you can’t find anywhere else.
People will except anything with the title on it. The interpretation of the series will forever be ruined by them. People just want realism with forced surface level concepts. If characters cry you must cry. Remake try's way too hard to convince you of what it does. It's insane that people forget some of the OG team exists with Keiichiro Toyama who have made Siren, Gravity Rush and SH1. Modern fans and Konami don't care about the passion of those who originally made it. Modern fans just need a remake for the sake of it. Let's just continue to pass it around to multiple devs as it's still having an identity crisis but it's okay. It says Silent Hill

I need to find the time and play this game, maybe i will just wait for sale at this point. I still have few games to catch up, i got sick this year and had some things to do in Summer, i played way less games in 2024 than in 2023 and my work is getting overwhelming to so i barely have the time to complete games this summer, i will complete as much as i can this Winter to catch up, i will definitely skip some of these long ass JRPGs, they are way too long you have to be jobless to be able to play all of them in the same year.

Konami's a terrible organization with all of its best work existing in the past - kicking out Kojima and Team Silent and some BS move to an 'all mobile future' should be the unforgivable sin that dooms them. Beyond that, they arrived at their best ever corporate logo in1998 (among the best video game studio logos in existence) and weren't smart enough to keep it. Just like regimes that kick out Einsteins, companies like Konami deserve to die and be replaced.

I can't wait to dive in. Been a crazy month so it's just sitting my my Steam Library.

Not to mention Metaphor.

But spooky season demands I play it this month. I've never played a SH game despite loving RE. Looking forward to this.

All of these are spot on.

Seriously. All the comments about proportion are also ridiculous. The actress for Maria has the exact same proportions.

Nailed it. I’ve been thinking that this “jaw” obsession must come from not seeing thin women, ever, IRL? Women have bones on their faces, bros. You see them if they’re not an anime avatar or a fat slob.
Same with head size. Many small and skinny women, the head looks bigger on them compared to a man.

It's very good, but it's not perfect at all, now i agree that under certain aspects, it's a remake that remain "on the surface" of the original, first of all, the lack of description when you have objects in front of you and the missing interaction text of any type, in the original this helped, at least for me, to create a bond with James, in the remake James is completely mute and "sterile" most of the time. Even his face in game it had to be more believable, when he has a heavy breate, for example, his face doesn't show a correct animation for that, creating a very weird effect, if you move the camera in front of his face when he's talking, if the game start this in a cutscene, and then the control is in your hands again, his mouth doesn't move even if the he's talking. Some cutscenes are better in the original, some musics were much more disturbing and scary in the original, the lack of pathos on the final letter, very sad in the original, but here it's a read with a completely different direction, drawers that open themselves, lack of polish, lack of unlockables compared to the original, etc. Just to be clear, it's an amazing game, the scariest for me after p.t, but it had to be perfect, and it's not, in my opinion.

Naw, it's a 7/10 remake and a 8/10 game where as RE1R & RE2R are 9/10 remakes(they cut some content) and 9/10 games.

Game's been padded too much and there's just too much combat that are detracting from the spooky aethereal SH atmosphere.

The new camera's making the game more like TLOU and other 3rd person over the shoulder games where as the OG had some more personality and tension with its cinematography IMO.

It stands with the RE:Remakes as the best ever. I can't bring myself to say it's #1 because of the spectre of recency bias.

Haven't played the Nintendo remakes mentioned ITT, so can't speak to those.

Dead Space and Last of Us 1-type Remakes are a different breed. Mostly one-to-one graphical updates with minor changes.

What Capcom and Bloober achieved is much more impressive: updating gameplay and graphics to modern standards while capturing the spirit of the OGs. They're like Jimi Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower": i.e. they rock, and I would much prefer to play the Jimi version (RE4 excepted).
