Silent Hill 2 |OT| You promised you'd take me there again someday...

Apparently AMD frame generation works if enabled in engine.ini

r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1

Arsic Arsic this one. I don't know if it did anything tbh lol. I *think* I am getting more frames but can't remember what they were before but it seems super smooth now without the occasional stutter.

I have this exact setup. Everything runs fairly smoothly at 4K (with fps 70+), max settings RT with DLSS performance. Any higher resolution with RT and the game is quite unplayable due to VRAM woes.
Ah cool! I always run my games at 1440p, it's a nice extra fps boost! I usually prefer DLAA quality , how would that run?

This game is special. It’s a good old game updated perfectly. I cannot overstate how fucking good this is. I know I’m playing something important, a rare occasion.

Is this going to easily be the best selling Silent Hill game? I'd think so. Congrats to Bloober Team on the game and reviews. It looks great.
Easily. Bloober convincing Konami to release the game on PC was the smartest business decision ever. It’s going to sell crazy well, AND revitalize Silent Hill in the process. The future for new and old Silent Hill fans looks amazing. I’m very excited.

Props to Konami too btw. This is the second time they’ve leveraged western studios for Silent Hill projects and they found the success they were looking for. I see the Konami + Bloober partnership as similar to the Nintendo + Mercury Steam partnership. Two joke studios finding success once a Japanese company gives them important IP and nurtures the development. I will buy every single Bloober Hill day one without question going forward.

I ended up restarting because it was nagging me how much supplies I could save up in a second run. Cleared Woodside/Blue creek this morning without getting touched.

Can’t wait to get home and finish the game. I got almost to where I was when I restarted, in much quicker time. Like 60-70 mins instead of hours lol.

Are you playing on normal or hard? I haven't played the game, but hopefully they add a survival mode down the line, like the Last of Us did with Grounded mode. Really enjoy games that limit your supplies

I wonder if non-essential items are dynamically added to the environment or if it is static.

I put four hours into this today. I rarely game that much. I was ready to write this game off based off it being Bloober Team, but this may be one of the best remakes of all time if it holds up for the entire playthrough.

One of those trailers has a generator.
So there's a light on the top, hidden from view?
If so, wouldn't still make sense for the table to not cast shadows or at least produce some kind of occlusion. Hopefully those instances are rare.

You guys are making it so goddamn near impossible for me to wait for Pro by the way with these comments.. it's like a whole month away for fuck sake. Imagine if it ends up being a lazy ass lackluster support..

Would you rather they bump up the resolution or switch to hardware Lumen?

1440P native with RT is a no go with a 4070Ti unless you lock it to 30fps. No DLAA in this game at least without a mod, but I tested it and was getting from mid 30's to 40's.

4K+DLSS performance looks and performs signifcantly better. I'd go for that if you have a 4K display or try DLDSR.

Wait for the Pro if you can. I think GHG GHG saw mentions of PSSR in ini files. And even if it doesn’t have full support, the better GPU will take care of any frame rate dips on standard PS5. I’m playing on Quality and it plays excellent with none of that stutter crap from DirectX games.

GHG GHG found PSSR evidence in the in the game, so at least IQ-wise I know it's going to be worth it even without a need for resolution increase.

But I'd love to play at 60fps, and surely the game looks incomplete without Lumen AO and GI.
Even though I have to say, the cubemaps plus SSR solution they made doesn't look too bad, it would have certainly been preferable to the current fuzzy/broken Lumen reflections in the Performance Mode in my opinion. Those are really distracting.

What I'd love, ideally, especially after waiting a whole goddamn month as a Silent Hill fanatic, is to see Bloober motivated by whatever motivated Capcom and pull off something like this:

wABioYR.gif

7I04mzY.gif

At 60fps, plus all the Lumen found in Fidelity mode. Wishful thinking, I know.

But in case the PC HW reflections seen in the PC version would be too heavy, I've read those new RT ones in Dead Rising could be the result of "using in-house Sony APIs", that would explain why they look so drastically different than RE Engine RT Reflections and why they're entirely absent from the PC version. If true, it could maybe make it easier to achieve better reflections even in Performance Mode?

I don't know, I'll just cross my fingers it's going to be worth it. Bloober having yet to announce what they're going to do is interesting.

How good would you say this is compared to RE4 or RE2 remakes?
Way better because it's much more faithful to the classic experience. I feel like I'm playing a PS2 game with better controls and 2024 graphics.

RE2, 3, 4 are great and all, but they were more like re-imaginings than full on remakes IMO.

Give me a choice between Silent Hill 2 classic or remake? I'm picking remake.

Wait what, where did he find evidence of PSSR?
Here:

Looks like those of you intending to play on PS5 pro will get something from this game, something I found while digging around in the ini files:

Buy now, complete a playthrough completely blind, do successive playthroughs/plat trophy on Pro, that's what I'm doing 👍

Thanks, but no. My wait for a really good SH has taken almost two decades at this point, if we exclude P.T. First playthrough on this is going to be sacred.
And take forever, because I'll explore every inch of this goddamn city at max difficulty/no icons.

This is the third new game I’ve bought this year. The others being Dragon’s Dogma 2 and EDF6. This experience is absolutely worth $70 if you are a fan of Silent Hill or survival horror.

I’m not big on GOTY talk but if I had to pick one this may be it. It’s good dude. Like really good.

Do you like Alan Wake and Alan Wake 2, Kach? I havent played either

Alan Wake and American Nightmare are ok, maybe a notch above ok because the light mechanic is awesome. Very, very unique survival horror in that regard. Getting run up on by a bunch of shadow hillbillies is effectively creepy because of that.

I dunno. Alan Wake is a cool idea, I just don't think they do much with that concept that's interesting. Couldn't tell you a single thing that happened in that game storywise, it was a bunch of obtuse nonsense. In my opinion, Remedy sniff their artsy fartsy asses too much for their own good.

Didn't bother playing AW2 because it was EGS exclusive and rather divisive. It was also hard not to be cynical about the [insert black woman] approach even if they justify it within the story. Pretty obvious why they did that. Not a dealbreaker for me, just lame.

Chuck Berry Chuck Berry said the game was dull.
SlimySnake SlimySnake mentioned something about a dance routine that felt out of place in a horror game. See my comment about artsy fartsy ass sniffing above.

Have to say, got to give props to the Bloober Team. They came out of nowhere and gave us one the best survival horror games in years.

Granted it a remake of a PS2 game but still amazing achievement.

Hopefully this will spur in interest for the series because damn, what a comeback if this the is quality to expect from future games.

I'm about 6 hours in and this game is the survival horror we were waiting for.

They have taken a lot from the RE remakes, but the game still manage to feel like a Silent Hill game. They have expanded a ton of the formula of the original: everything is bigger and deeper. It's a lot like Silent Hill meets The Last of Us

The enemies are smart and aggressive, though the game gives you plenty of ammo and resources in standard. This game will be brutal at the highest difficulty settings.

Absolutely the best horror game I’ve played so far bar none. If it sticks the landing it’ll surpass evil within 1 for me.

RE games have always been action games with horror elements. This is a horror game with action elements.

I just got to the labyrinth. The entire prison prior to that and the boss at the end? Just pure dread all the way through. And tying that boss into real life horror and trauma? Next fucking level stuff.

What a fucking game man…

Finally, home from work.
It's time to go balls deep. :messenger_relieved:

Edit: I also want to state, it's refreshing to see how Bloober changed up how you get some of these items. You have to go on a semi-side quest, just to find the key to The First Major Area.
