I was half tempted to not buy yet another remake but this doesn't count since I never played the original (how I overlooked this in 2001 is beyond me). I am glad I bought it though, this game is really well done.

I have 3 sound outputs playing at once (TV, external 2.1 speakers and PS5 controller speaker) and it sounds fucking awesome. Luckily, I am not getting many stutters yet on PC. I have been on a huge retro kick lately but I am absolutely playing this over the original.

Reflection quality difference is the big immediate stand-out.

Guessing the DF video should be up tomorrow (Monday).
Yeah, nice preview of what to expect tomorrow. Made a little summary in the DF Thread:

DLSS Performance better IQ than Quality PS5.

Hardware RT Reflections only on PC. Cubemaps + SSR less distracting than either PS5 reflections.

Lumen AO and GI in PS5 Quality.

RTX 4070 performance DLSS Balanced High Settings + RT bode well for PS5 Pro.

PS5 Textures lower than Low, but to be fair they don't scale on PC for some reason as High and Low show no difference.

Medium Shadows Setting on PS5 Quality.

Fog flickers noticeably on PC at higher settings.

Well played Bloober.

I played for several hours straight last night and made it to the Blue Creek Apartments. I’m amazed by how good the game is; it’s dripping with atmosphere. They’ve modernized the gameplay mechanics while keeping the essence of the original nearly intact. My only issue so far is the design of Angela’s model, but I’m hoping it’ll grow on me over time.

Technically, the game is top-tier. Playing in 4K with ray tracing and headphones in a dark room makes the immersion unbelievable.

This has definitely put Bloober Team on my radar. I hope the game sells well, and they continue remaking all of Team Silent's titles.

Turned off RT. Maybe 12GB VRAM isn't enough for this and decent settings at 4K. Performance completely tanks in some area's. Way better experience with it off.

Might improve with some patches or some sort of performance mod idk.

I’m finding this game pretty demanding on pc. I have a 4090 and 5800x3d and quite honestly Iv had to drop res to 1440p to get anywhere near 100fps. I refuse to put dlss setting to below balanced as the shimmering kicks in. The traversal stutter is disappointing. I’m not sure this can be improved as I’m sure it was reported this game was finished ages ago. So you have to think bloober have had a long time for optimisations and made as good as they can for launch?

It's still the honeymoon but it appears that Bloober out RE'd Resident Evil. Capcom needs to step it up with their next game. This is coming from a RE fanboy who never gave Silent Hill a chance back in the day.
I’m with you brother. I love the Capcom remakes but there was something always too arcadey about them, and they were never frightening.

Bloober really went to the roots of the original material and expanded it, deeply, in the same tone, peeling more layers of that atmosphere. It’s a true labour of love. I can’t shake the feeling that the Capcom remakes were always done in a bit of a rush to pump them out. I don’t feel that with the level of detail in SH2. I’m still shocked by all this.

Oh yeah turn that blood border off, so obnoxious. Play with a PS5 controller and its light will show your health level.

Also am I missing something when it comes to finding health items? I get it’s survival horror and they’re supposed to be rare but goddamn, I’ve been running on fumes in the apartments and every little hit I take feels like I should go back to my last save and try again

Break windows and glass. Cars and stores will have them. Open drawers.

Been looking in every drawer, I’m like panning around every room TLoU style looking for indicators to pick something up, but maybe I should’ve been more thorough breaking glass on the streets before coming into the apartments

I'm on hard and the apartments bled me dry on healing items, especially the mannequins who are fast and vicious up close. I decided it wasn't worth the risk going toe to toe and started using the pistol to deal with them. So enter rooms slowly, look around before moving because you can catch them while they're camouflaged. They go down in 3-4 shots.

Then around the otherworld apartment I started to get stocked up again on health drinks.

Break the cars and glass cabinets inside rooms. You’ll find some. I’m basically breaking everything that’s glass, even the tvs. :p

How is the PC version? Are there shader stutters? Traversal stutters?
It seemingly does shader comp loading up the first time, then I did a driver update and it did it again, but not terribly long tbh. What I assume are traversals stutters happen fairly infrequently, sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s a stutter or if it’s because I’m hurt and limping along. Overall I’d say performance is pretty good and consistent

It's more occasional traversal stutter than it is shader stutter. From what I've seen it's less pronounced on AMD X3D chips, so if you have one it's not something to be overly concerned about.

In terms of graphics? Or overall quality?

I'm even more curious now that I watched my friend play early access for a few hours. Curious how this stacks up to the AITD reboot in terms of combat, especially melee. One was roasted, the other praised, but they look pretty similar to me.

I love it. It's much easier than I remember though... Just got the steel pipe, but I have like 80+ bullets for the handgun and have 20 health drinks and 3 syringes. Does it get much harder?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Appreciate that Gamefly has started shipping 2 days before its street date instead of 1.

But I'm probably not gonna get a chance to play this before next week.

If I like it as much as I liked AW2, will just buy it from them outright.

For me, overall quality, immersion, combat, level design, and I like how it's more serious(so far) with no insanely huge monsters and anime stuff like punching boulders. RE will RE, but I enjoy a more grounded experience. Watch the joke be on me and this game gets super over the top later, this is my first playthrough of any SH.

I wonder if the middle of the game with underground segments is equally as bad as the original? Good thing the original game ends on a high note at the resort hotel.
