Singularity |OT| - Anyone? No?

Hey guys. Just got this game. I couldn't resist. I was so bored and wanted to play something interesting and mysterious so I decided to get it.

Anyway, just two questions:

1. How long did you guys take to finish this? (I think I asked this before but I forgot the answer).

2. How is the multiplayer? Is there a pretty good community?

Thanks.

I started this last night, and just go to the first boss tonight. Really enjoying this one. The "combos" (ways of killing baddies) is just really.. I don't know.. fresh to me. Then I got reminded that I can't wait for Bulletstorm to get here. Anyways, I really dig the mechanics of this game and can't wait to play more.

I'm surprised how many people are having issues with the Tick room.

Strategy for Tick Room:
All you need to do is start the wheel. Move one step to the left and shoot a Deadlock bubble just at the end of the puddle that is near the door. Run into the bubble, turn and shoot all the Ticks that are near. Do not use the TMD again right now. Let it recharge as you shoot. As soon as you have cleared enough of them away, shoot another Deadlock into the doorway at the exit. Run into there and let your TMD recharge while you take care of any of the Ticks that are near you. Now shoot one last Deadlock down the hallway. It should land near where the tunnel turns to the right. Run into the Deadlock, clear out Ticks. Now you should be able to just run towards the end of the tunnel. Use the TMD to age a Tick so the rest of them are attracted to it. Climb short ladder on the right and run towards the big ladder.

That's it. Safe.

I did this on Hard my first time through and then played around with strategy to see what is best just because I found so many people posting that were having issues with this room.

Hope this helps.

Deadlock really becomes overpowered towards the end if you upgrade it and your TMD energy bar. Whenever a tougher enemy emerges, just throw a deadlock on him, empty a clip or two and wait to see him die, when the bubble collapses. Even on hard, player becomes very powerful in the later stages of the game. Maybe that's what the developers wanted. I at least enjoyed just crushing my enemies and hearing the lamentation of their... bug women.

I didn't mean that far in the game. ;) Of course that is fun too.
At first I didn't even realize I had the infinite energy for the TMD.

I found the assault rifle (Valkyrie or something) pretty useful. It can be used to kill pretty much any enemy, especially with all of the upgrades, and there's usually plenty of ammo for it. I used the shotgun mostly as a secondary weapon.

By the way, can you visually see the upgrades on the weapons? I don't remember noticing anything. I just thought about it, considering all the BioShock comparsions, and that game had nice visual upgrades also.

No visible changes to the weapons. I was rather surprised that they didn't copy Bioshock on that feature. It was always so cool to upgrade a weapon in Bioshock because of the appearance change.

I used the Valkyrie as my primary weapon too. Really no need to carry anything other than that and a random secondary weapon. The game does too good of a job of providing you with a weapon when you would need it.

There is a achievement that can be missed that is kinda cool.
Later in the game you will be on a boat and you will get a new grenade launcher weapon. Right where you pick this weapon up there is a hole in the wall right at the floor. Figure out how to use the weapon on that hole and enjoy.

i used the shotgun primarily when in tight spaces. assault rifle for medium and sniper for long of course. i didn't bother upgrading the sniper though. just the other 2.

Just finished this game on PC. Was pretty awesome despite a lot of negative things I read about the game. Looked pretty decent except a lot of times it would take forever for the textures to load. Playing the Steam version.

The ticks killed me the first time, but it was more or less cake the second time. They sure hit hard for a little guy though. :lol

I would think Im just a bit past the halfway point, just got the TMD ability of turning people. So far, this is another gem for me this year. I, personally, am very much enjoying a lot of the releases this year, maybe even more in years past.

Finished hard mode. Unfortunately I only found 9 hero blueprints again, which means I need a third playthrough just to get the damn tech geek trophy. I've got all the other single player trophies. I think I'll play some more multiplayer first though.

Played a few hours last night. A solid shooter, very much a cross between Wolfenstein and Bioshock, that seems to be flying under the radar. Looking forward to playing more tonight.

Kinda cool? It's pretty freaking awesome. More developers need stuff like that in their games.

So I played this game up to the level with the ticks (really enjoying the atmosphere so far) and shut off the game. I try to play it today, and it just says no signal when it boots up!

I'm playing the PS3 version and every other game works except this one. Probably a software problem? Tried looking up on this but it only seems to be me.

Nice strategy but it`s easier said then done...anything that involves pushing down on the analog sticks always sucks for me,the sprinting doesn`t always work right away and sometimes instead of creating the deadlock,I grab one of the spiders...however you spin it,this section is a frustrating mess that a lot of people will stop playing this game at and probably will say F this if it`s a rental and just not buy it...I could go on with my rant but I won`t since I just stopped playing now because of that part,in an otherwise awesome game so far...

overall this game is much better than I expected. really cool. I was expecting less on account of the lack of promotion and so-so review scores.

I have to admit that the presentation is a bit inconsistent -- looks great sometimes and kinda bleh other times. one thing that bothers me in particular is some enemies have damage modeling and some have zero. specifically, those guys who go invisible and jump at you... no damage modeling or blood! what the fuck is that? these are the guys who made soldier of fortune ten fucking years ago. jeez.

People are aware there's a fix for the texture loading problem, right?

Applied it after installing and it never once happened to me.

I can't wait to get into this game tonight! My brother just got me this as a belated birthday gift. I was thinking for weeks which game to decide on. Was thinking of Bad Company 2 but I might be feeling a little military fps fatigue so I went with this game.

From impressions here and from some podcasts I felt I needed to play this now. Game sounds awesome.

Watching the trailers it looks like they cut a lot of stuff out. Before they showed you being able to age lots more stuff in the environment. Then they had to come with a plot reason why you could age one thing and not another and the "E99 infused" one limited it.

As I said earlier, I think they just bit off more than they could chew and needed to focus things to get the game out the door. I just finished it last night though and thought it was really good. The very definition of a solid experience and reminds you of why you can always rely on Raven in that regard ....now lets just hope Activision doesn't undo that =/

In the very first room with the wheel, aging a tick and then dropping a deadlock (close by so you can walk into it) makes the fight INFINITELY easier, especially if you age the tick as they walk out of the door after turning the wheel. Helped me a lot.

The aged tick attracts most of them, and the deadlock protects you from those that don't get attracted (and they're easy pickin' with the shotgun)

AGE THE TICKERS. IT MAKES THE ROOM A CINCH.

i'm feelin really bad as the game made quite an impression on me when I beat it, but I borrowed from a friend. I feel like owe Raven my money/support and buy on PS3 anyway =/

So I started playing the game last night and was into it. Nice atmosphere, solid shooting. Was enjoying myself till the night went sour. God, I feel like strangling whoever came up with that tick room encounter.

I don't think I've ever had the brakes slammed so hard on me in an FPS game before design-wise. And I wanted to keep playing the game but this part was pretty much the end of my night. And since the game auto-saves at spots, I couldn't go back to an earlier part in the game and mess around again.

I'm going to try the tips mentioned in the thread earlier to see if I get through it today. And I'm playing this on normal, I can't imagine hard on this part.

Since I couldn't pass this part, I figured I'd jump online and try the multiplayer. Couldn't find a single game (PS3).

Don't know if it's related or not, but when I popped the game in my PS3 the first time, my tv screen went black. I could hear the game but there was nothing on screen. Then the start screen finally showed up. I figured it was an HDMI "handshake" issue with my tv.

You will get it after a few tries...do exactly what Thetrin and TrueLize pôsted and it`s actually easy,if you don`t mess up...the game is awesome, there`s a few more hard moments, involving escort type scenario`s and a Boss that is quite hard but overall,it`s a great game...I think i`m near the end now and having a blast...

So I picked this game up last week while it was on sale at K-Mart, and after putting in several hours, I find myself enjoying it immensely. I love the atmosphere, and I'm having a ridiculous amount of fun with the weapons. Playing through it on Hard, and I'm not having too much trouble, with the exception of those nasty Ticks. When they get on you in clusters, you're pretty much done, mainly due to the healing animation taking up a considerable amount of time. The TMD is cool and the time manipulation aspects are neat, if not disappointingly underdeveloped. The game looks great overall but there are some texture issues with loading and clarity, and the story is interesting enough to where I want to keep playing to see where it goes. Good stuff, and highly underrated.

Anyone who took advantage of Prototype offer, I got mine in the mail today.

i tossed out the outer packaging before i even knew about it. i thought you only needed a code or soemthing from INSIDE the box, not the outer sticker. the site for redemption didn't point that out until AFTER i submitted my order. :(

btw, finished this game on Normal yesterday, really fun. some annoying chokepoints but the powers are interesting and the different endings were also quite cool. i wish the game had more polish in some areas.

Finished it. It did definitely get better again towards the end, with some crazy set pieces and nice narrative moments restoring my full enjoyment.

A really good sleeper hit overall. Not an amazing game, but definitely a solid B tier shooter that had some great ideas.

I'm totally with you. It really hit some speed bumps in the middle. I was mostly bored with the puzzles but it did ramp up towards the end. Pretty satisfying ending as well. Didn't touch the multiplayer though.

Too late, I was that guy the other night. :lol Worst thing is that once I did what others mentioned in the thread, I passed it easily. Age a tick, other ticks are attracted, they explode. Done.

I had the COD mentality so burned into my brain that I was conditioned to just push through to an invisible checkpoint and I was done. This tick room definitely frustrated me at first. The game as a whole seemed shorter than I expected.

Was a solid game. I wouldn't saying fantastic but very enjoyable.

Wow, so I didn't really feel like buying this game, so I instead rented it on 360 (I normally play FPS's on PC). God I suck with a dual-analogue FPSs, and the ticks make that point incredibly clear.

I've also found myself at numerous times stuck on puzzles or lost numerous times in this game. Although to be fair, I don't think I've gotten lost since I remembered you can do the ping thing.

Just got stuck on the
gas room puzzle, with the door that keeps closing. I figured it'd be as easy as lunch a deadlock, but no go.

For the part you're stuck on,
just hit the button to open the door then hit the door with the deadlock to keep it open.
*edit* beaten

Speaking of which, I just put this game up for trade at Amazon. It was cool, but I wish I would have rented it first. The game was pretty short, and I don't find the multiplayer interesting enough to hold on to the game.

Thanks for the tip guys. That is kinda wonky,
I launched deadlocks like 6 times and I guess I just wasn't hitting in the right place. I tried them on the button, on the door, tried to get them on both, etc.
Oh well, think I'm getting pretty close to beating it.
Just went back in time to get the code, and this sequence is actually the best part of the game so far, I have enough powers I can just screw with people.

Beat the game today. The last half hour-hour is far and away the best hour in this game, and because of that I think I am going to remember it more fondly then perhaps it deserves.

It's funny, what I'm taking away most from this game is that I learned an important lesson about myself as a gamer. I prefer to shoot people in FPSs, not monsters, aliens, etc. Looking over other games this really rings true: I hate the flood in halo, hate the aliens in Crysis, etc. Hated the ticks, zombies, verts, etc. in this game. But I loved shooting the people. Maybe that's saying something about me?

Tried multiplayer for about 5 minutes, for some reason I had to be one of the monsters which sucked, so I'll be returning it today. Definitely a great rental though!

But I loved shooting the people. Maybe that's saying something about me?

It's not just you. The monsters just die when you shoot them but the soldiers on the other hand literally explode. There's always an arm or a head flying through the air. It's very satisfying.

So true. I loved torsos coming off, arms flying everywhere, blood fountains where heads used to be.
