If I was new to the gaming scene, I wouldn't know which to pick. They are both good systems and are looking great.

That being said, generally I buy only one console per generation (handhelds don't count) and I have too many older Xbox games to ditch Xbox at this point. It's much more reasonable for me to get an Xbox Series X down the line, especially considering their BC functionality. I do not buy consoles at launch though. I will likely buy it one or two years down the road, if it seems reasonable to do so. There is not enough on the PS5 at this point to convince me to get one.

At launch, probably neither.

Later on I'm more inclined towards the Ps5. Sony has already showed multiple exclusives that interest me. And since Microsoft is still committed to bringing all their games to PC I still think building a PC is the more appealing option.

if you already know what you're buying it's because you had your mind made up years ago

Which there is nothing wrong with IMO, and it's not just people who are fanboys. As most of us hardcore gamer types are buying consoles for the exclusives we want to play and Sony, MS and Nintendo are pretty much known commodities at this point with the general types and genres of games they focus on most with their first party studios. It's highly unlikely that anyone who was satisfied with the exclusives on whatever platform(s) they owned this generation won't be satisfied again going with the same choice.

The only ones who really need to know more are the ones who aren't wed to any of the platform holder's exclusives and mostly play third party games as that's where the hardware differences and features really matter in the decision making process.

Sony and Nintendo first party games are the majority of what I play anymore, so those will always be my go to consoles. I couldn't give a shit less about either corporation, they just happen to own a bunch of the studies that happen to make my favorite games. I also don't care much about graphics so I don't care if some gens Sony has slightly worse versions of multiplats than Xbox (or of course PC).

Based on the system design visually and mechanically, I want an Xbox honestly.

Based on software, I want a Playstation.

So I don't know. I'm probably not getting either for a year, and we'll see what the prices are.

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with it either. A lot of people are invested into either XBL or PSN with their purchases and previous library of games, and it would make sense to continue into the next gen with the investments you've put into the platform you chose. For the same reason I would never buy an Android phone, because I've invested a lot into iOS, it makes sense to stick with the same company you have for the previous generations.

I'll almost surely get both, as usual. But I definitely preferred the games on PS4 over Xbox One this past generation. Frankly I think MS is losing the plot and doesn't really understand gaming as a craft. The constant trumpeting of "the MOST POWAH" is ridiculous when the margins are smaller than ever on the graphics front. It's like asking people to come watch your movie solely because it's shot on IMAX. But they completely ignore the fact they are trying to sell you a ticket to Mac and Me. Anyway, kind of a deeper topic.

So the answer is both, I'll get both. :messenger_tongue:

I liked most of what i saw yesterday. I liked some of it A LOT. Nothing has changed for me. Day One for both. Got backup external SSD ready for PS5 and gonna get the 1TB expansion card for XsX.

So excited.

(tells self: please don't die before these launch)

Now just another countdown until the MS July event

I will wait until a game I consider a must have is released. I did that with PS4 and in the end I got it when Bloodborne launched.

I guess I will end up with a PS5 as most likely will have a better support of Japanese games which usually are my main thing. Could get a XSX in the future if it gets some interesting exclusives.

Yep, that's a good point as well. It's much hard to "switch sides" as more things move digital and are tied to people's accounts. Between that and the pretty different focuses/strengths of the exclusive libraries, switching is just tough in general for people other than those who just play the big AAA multiplats every generation. Doesn't really matter where you play the latest CoD, Madden, Fifa, GTA etc.

I don't replay things so I don't care about the digital games tied to my accounts, but I love so many Nintendo and Sony games I can't envision ever not having both of those platforms. Adding a third platform is a tough sell anymore as I just don't have as much gaming time/interest in my 40s and there aren't very many Xbox or PC exclusives that are must play type games for me.

I will wait until a game I consider a must have is released. I did that with PS4 and in the end I got it when Bloodborne launched.

Yeah, I need a must play as well. For PS4 that was Infamous Second Son--but I probably should have waited longer as it was pretty slim pickings for me on the exclusives front from me from that game until Bloodborne.

Horizon 2 will most likely be the game that gets me to pick up a PS5 since the Spider-man Miles game is a shorter spin off.

I'm no longer buying Sony hardware and everything that looked decent from the show will be available on ps4/XSX anyway.

Not really interested in a Microsoft console either but if they cancel Battletoads I might consider it.

Neither. I'm happy with my PC and Switch.

The Switch has been killing it, I've always had something to play on it.

Xbox has been supporting PC strong so I have no doubt I'll be able to play their titles on PC which is win/win for us both. I still buy their games/use gamepass, I get to use my own hardware.

If Gran Turismo 7 comes out in a few years and is as good as Gran Turismo should be (like GT3 in it's day) and they release a version of the console that doesn't look like it melted then I'll consider getting one. If not no big deal as I already have enough games to play as it is.

Lets face it 30fps consoles suck, I only buy a console to play it's exclusives, PS4/5 are fine but XSX doesn't have anything interesting my PC can't do better.

Microsoft is really falling behind. Wouldn't be surprised if they pull the plug on a physical console after this gen and just stick to windows and Gamepass/ XCloud.

PS5. I've got a gaming PC that I will continue to keep up to date, so no reason to buy an Xbox. Microsoft will get my Gamepass dollars, though.

im still edging towards Xbox Series X, although recently bought a decent upper mid range Gaming PC which i love so considering not getting any next gen console until next year but im sure i'll cave and get the XSX at launch.

Demon's Souls has me sold on the PS5 already. If another God of War is on the way that will seal the deal.

However, unless it isn't really expensive (it will be) I won't be getting it until the first price drop at the earliest. I'll stick with current gen and PC until then.

With the info we have so far.. PS5.

But I'm patienly waiting for the price announcement, and what that's gonna do to the momentum.

I'm not buying a system that isn't enjoying good momentum. I used to be a Sega fan, so I've done that way too many times. I know that if the momentum is prime, the games will either be there already, or they will come.

both eventually. Though right now im still leaning towards getting an xbox series x first.
If i want to get both closer to the same time i may get the cheaper digital only ps5 (as i generally download games anyways) if its cheap enough.

PS5 at launch.

XSloth when hell freezes over.
You'll last long here.

God of War sequel is 100% in the way. They said they didn't do DLC for the first as they wanted to just get to work in the next one.

My guess is that will be their biggest 2022 game with Horizon 2 being the biggest 2021 exclusive.

I have both on pre-order but think the XSX will have to wait if I'll ever get one. PS5 and a 4K tv it is.

I don't forsee myself buying either due to backlogs and whatnot but if I were to choose it's easily the Xbox Series X.

Backwards compatibility going back 20 years is a huge deal to me. There aren't quite enough of Sony's exclusives that interest me to invest in their platform.

I'll be taking the same approach as I did with the PS4, if it amasses enough exclusives that interest me ill bite, which is something the Ps4 never managed to achieve for me. Until then, I got more than enough good games to play on PC and Nintendo.

Was always gonna be PS5. Most of my friends play on it and they aren't moving unless, say, XSX is 200 bucks cheaper. Which is highly doubtful, so PS5 it is.

Little Devil Inside is also coming to PC so, none.

Edit: Will maybe buy XSX for exclusives not coming to PC, if any.

Those who answer this thread already took a decision earlier.
And those who really are open minded, are waiting to July.

I'll get a PS5 once there's something I can really sink some hours into. That might be as early as CoD Cold War if it looks good or a little later like GT7.

I'm never Xbox, though.

It's hard to say. I think if they can sell at least 50 million consoles again it's probably worth it. The hardware starts to make some profit in the later years of generations, their getting game purchases and subscriptions from people who may not be interested in streaming games or PC gaming etc.

If it does worse than Xbox One sales wise, then yeah, I think they'll be done and just focus on PC, Gamepass and Xcloud. In general the money is in selling software and subscriptions, not hardware. Outside of Nintendo anyway as they manage to sell a lot of hardware and from a profit per unit from the start. They'll be the last to abandon dedicated hardware as a result.

PS5, one can argue yesterday's show could have been better but Microsoft is so far behind first party stuff compared to Sony and Nintendo it's not even funny. I'm not even close to wanting an XBox and if anything I'll build a PC for whatever I get on Steam and VR.

So far I'm pretty firmly in the Xbox camp, as Sony wont bring back Socom 2 online as a remaster, they don't have anything comparable to Halo's MP, and they don't take BC nearly as seriously.

Aren't all the Xbox games going to be on PC? I know like 90% of what was shown yesterday will be on PC too, but with XBOX it seems closer to 100% LOL
