So is Final Fantasy XIV a flop on Xbox?

I don't know what was expected to be honest.

No one can say it's a bad game either. It's one of the best MMOs out there currently and has millions of subs.

It's just too late. If you wanted to play it, you've already played it or are subscribed.

I always get confused by DryvBy DryvBy and GrayChild GrayChild

We need some sort of system to identify Kojima Chicken Hat Real and Kojima Chicken Hat Cartoon

Reminds me of pre John Marston John Marston Zephir and the other Zephir Zephir

Loved the time I spent on it upto the end of Shadowbringers (PS4 then shifted to PC). Pity it didn't get any more traction but understandable that it's far too late.

Releasing a game YEARS later when the community for it are already elsewhere and requiring what, 2 subscriptions? Don't sell?
Well that is obviously because noone wants to play it on Xbox. Right.?

the game has unlimited time free trial up to level 70 that cover base game and 2 expansion free which is contain easily atleast over 200-400 hours of gameplay(depend on players pace) and usually until they reach that cap, no need to buy the full game yet. once they buy it, they need to start to pay monthly sub and lose all the unlimited free time below lv70. this also perhaps play role so we might simply no see full story.

So you don't have to buy the base game for the trial though?

Yeah i saw this on the xbox store reviews

Shame because it runs really well on the Series X. Looking to get back into it, tons of events going on.

no need. everything is free.

you can buy it but why? since it is better for you to take full advantages of free trial until reach lv70.

ofcourse free trial player has limitation like chat limit, cannot join FC(guild), marketboard restriction and limited amount of money(gil) can own which is fair trade and perhaps to avoid bots at same time. the rest you have access to all hundreds of hours in game content fully aside pvp and Ultimate raid content. this game is more PVE oriented anyway.

No. It's a free trial.

An incredibly generous one at that, which offers more game-time than most RPG's combined.

You have the entire base FF14 story and one big expansion that is covered within this free trial. I'm surprised SE have done this, as most people would probably get their fill of the game just by this trial alone.

Need to wait for the expansion to really know, but the reality is that it is likely 4-5 years too late.
Supposedly, the upcoming expansion Dawntrail is going to start a new storyline that they're going to support for the next 10 years or so.

So in a way, the timing of release is rather good, all things considered.

It's a shame MS went with double sub fees, because the game is amazing.

I was disappointed to learn that you can't party up with friends unless at least once of you is a paid subscriber. I really want to check it out but time is a factor and as a largely single player experience it is tough to prioritize.

I'll admit I feel like a hypocrite though because I always told myself I'd play it if it came out on Xbox

Requiring two subs was the nail in the coffin
Bingo. No one in their right mind is gonna pay 2 sub fees for one game.

And it's best played on PC anyway. Especially with graphical upgrades causing older systems to stop supporting the game. Like it did with PS3 to PS4.

IMO it gets held back when tied to multiple platforms. Not to mention the unfair advantages PC users have access to with 3rd party tools and a deeper level of customization and optimization.

1. FF on Xbox
2. You have to pay for it
3. You need two paid for subs
4. Relased like nearly a decade after other platforms
5. It's a traditional MMORPG with the communities well established on PC and Playstation

Is it already a decade old? Man how the time flies..
I just checked the wiki and it says the first version was already released 2010....

but basicly what you said.

SE lost 99% of the Xbox consumers with point number 2. The typical Xbox consumers don't buy games, they download them on their Game Pass as trained by MS. Best Value in gaming baby!.

OK that actually makes sense because I did this on PS5 (maybe PS4) and I would have never paid for this game. I'm not into MMOs anymore but I wanted something mindless I could play and then just drop it when I wanted to play something else.

I said this before, anyone who actually wanted to play FFXIV since the Year of Our Lord 2010 has already found a way to play it on PC or PS

Porting it to Xbox was nothing more than a PR action for MS and SE, neither of them really thought it was going to add millions of subscribers. Turns out it didn't even add hundreds, to the surprise of literally no one

Honestly why though? Lol

At this point the only way they're playing is if it comes to Gamepass and is included in the sub. They've ruined their purchasers on the idea the same way Warner Brothers damaged the idea of the theater by doing Day 1 release during COVID-19 and letting millions of people realize "Hmmm, I can enjoy Dune at home on my own time and pause it?" The cats out the bag and as we've learned, once it's out it's never going back in.

why are we casually linking to that site all of a sudden?

Don't you need to buy coins from Xbox store then use them to pay for the sub? Or did that get axed

The countless people who would say it's their "skipping xbox strategy" that hurt their games was comically bad.

Almost all of their big budget exclusive games in the last couple of years have underperformed so sticking to one isn't helping them much either 🤷‍♂️

Shhh your hurting the PlayStation narrative

For FFXIV it came way too late, most people already play it on other platforms (myself on PS5 or PC) so no point playing on Xbox
