Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

How the hell does anyone here even level up in Splat Zones? Had a ridiculous looking run with a few teams and just as I was on the cusp of C+ (heh, C fucking plus is all I'm trying to reach right now...), Blackbelly Skatepark^n times and the team I'm on gets last second styled on because everyone turned Super Sayian in the last 20 seconds.

Ranking up is basically being lucky enough to either get a team that knows how to play or lucky enough to go against one that doesn't.

It's dependant on whether you're lucky enough to be placed on the same team with that bunny hopping Japanese Blaster dude.

Seriously though, the random matchmaking in Ranked is killing it for me. I was on the cusp of B+ when I was matched with the absolute worst players for several matches in a row (even after backing out after each loss). I can only do so much for the team.

Omg .92 Gal in Splat Zones is the only god

I had a reeeeally hard time getting into it the first time I used it. I need to learn to keep my distances.

I have to admit I wouldn't be upset about some losses and experimentation if the game allowed me to change loadouts in the pre-fight lobbies.

I feel you. Managed to get 82 points yesterday, I am B- now. Got mixed up with C- people and lost 50 points.

Because nintendo is terrified of what it'll do to matchmaking times if you have too many different matchmaking queues. Same reason why they didn't want to open up the level 10 queue until there were a whole lot of level 10 players.

And they can't randomize the entire map pool in the queue or put it up to a vote after queuing because they want you to be able to know the maps before entering matchmaking so you can strategically configure your loadout for those maps. They seem to want to keep switching up the metagame by making you have to figure out the best loadout averaged out over two different maps, instead of constructing a specific loadout for each map individually.

It's also possible they want to "keep it fresh" by making every 4 hours to feel like a brand new community wide special event when they swap out the maps. That also serves to distract from the total number of maps which seem pretty lacking when compared to other shooters.

It forces you to think differently vs the thinking of a Charger.
You should try it in a full GAF lobby. Not much time to think.

I feel like the blasters short range and one hit kill potential should play similar but I'm having a hard time getting it to work. Not that I've tried a whole lot

Heng....ugh

Finally, Rank B- achieved.

Port Mackarel's Splat Zones > all

The truth. The mindgames here with the tight corridors and the defensive point to fall back on make it so good. Map was obviously designed for Splat Zones, so I'm surprised it took them a whole day to put it in Ranked's rotation.

This. It becomes more and more clear that (with the added Ranked Battles and 1- vs. 2-zone Splat Zones) there isn't a loadout that will be universally great on all modes and all maps.

Going back playing Regular Battle after playing Ranked Battle is a bit like going from 200cc to 100cc in MK8.

I know what you mean. It's a completely different game now. Cannot wait to see what new modes will unlock in the coming months.

Pfft

The best loadout is the regular Splattershot with all Quick Respawn, including subs. Impossible to lose if you use that.

I'm learning to like Ranked matches except for the communication errors. Twice this morning we were winning and when the connection cuts, I end up losing points. Really pisses me off.

I don't particularly mind that only two maps are available at the same time, but it's annoying how long it takes for maps to rotate. 4 hours is just way too long. Realistically, I can only play on certain times of the day and maps rotating just every 4 hours means that I'm pretty much stuck with the same two maps over and over again during the two hours that I'm able to play the game. It's fun during the first hour, but after that I just really wish that I could play some other maps.

Ranked Battles make it slightly better, since theoretically you've got 4 maps that are available at a time. However, as someone who doesn't really have enough time to "get good" and who is dependent on matches with randoms, Ranked Battles can become no fun easily... (So far, my experience has always been quite the same: Either my team dominates or the enemy team dominates. No middleground. There was just one match that was actually exciting up to the very last second and got into overtime...)

Anyways, how does everyone feel about the soundtrack. Personally it's either overall annoying or amazing. I can't tell either way to be honest. I love songs, then hate them later only to love them again.
