Accel World 01+02

Considering how low my expectations were I guess this isn't completely unwatchable. The story seems pretty convoluted even out of the gate with three separate realities just kind of thrown out there with such little background. At least they're mostly padded out with some fairly interesting design world on both a character and architectural level.

The show might have been okay without the sniveling lead. I get that the role is supposed to be a write-in/wish fulfillment thing, but this guy is unbearable. It's kind of hard to even feel like his real life is so completely awful when half of what's shown is him hanging out with cute girls who make him picnics. I also don't really get all the theatrical movements people seem to make in the real world to interface with the virtual one, or the Gameboy link cable to directly interface with people, but whatever. I guess those aren't really the questions you're supposed to ask.

because this OVA gives us proper closure for her character after the unduly brusque resolution provided in the first season proper. In any case I'm glad I watched this before starting the second season because it seems to be an important bridge episode, providing us with both a denouement to the events of the previous season while foreshadowing the next.

The production quality was also top-notch, with animation as expressive and rich as any prior episode:

Eh, I thought Ozma was decent. The plot is a bit of a wash but I like the art style, the whole thing feels like something from the 80s

Well this wasn't as awful as I thought it'd be. Its still pretty bad but not Guilty Crown bad yet. Yeah the protagonist is a an annoying pathetic wimp but can you blame him when he is clearly from a different show and has somehow become trapped in generic future Japan. It's interesting how the sentences get progressively worse as you read them.

Joking aside, Fate/Zero is the best of the 4 you mentioned. Space Pirates is ok.

Not bad for an introduction episode. 2nd segment was leagues better than the first one. They got the boke and tsukkomi routine down and it's always fun to see Neji as part of those antics.

Should be a good show. Can't wait for that one Hinata chapter (readers know which one I'm talking about, lol).

Was the anime OST any good? I honestly don't remember anything from it so I guess it was forgettable? The VN's OST was pretty good though. Especially the use of Sorrow in the

, which is only time where it's used. If you're planning to play through the VN, you might not want to listen to it though.

The anime's music was pretty forgettable but not terrible. There wasn't a lot of track variety though, so the 'dramatic emotional music' got used over and over at the end with diminishing returns. The music of the F/Z anime is far superior to the F/SN anime (like everything else), and I would have said that even if I didn't like Yuki Kajiura.

That's why Ufotable should remake it properly along with Heaven's Feel route for maximum awesomeness and CG. Then we'll forget all about DEEN's atrocious turd.

Someone was saying in this thread that ufotable isn't interested in remaking F/SN I think. They could still do Heaven's Feel if they wanted, I'm told that the Fate and UBW routes are fairly similar in many ways but the HF route is very different, making it a viable standalone project. After the sales of the F/Z box they would be crazy not to want to adapt more of the franchise, I think Mahou Shoujo Yandere Ilya is great and everything but I also think a lot of people would kill for an animated adaptation of F/SN's last route.

I meant to put Space Brothers. I'm currently watching Space Pirates. lol I try just about everything. So more than likely I'll end up watching those as well. But those four are the ones I remembered off the top of my head.

I'm only three episodes into Persona 4. Going to marathon it tonight and tomorrow. First episode was pretty good, second episode was awesome, third was... yeah. I hope the pacing's fixed in the next couple of episodes. Something's off. I loved the game, but something's missing. Maybe it's just that I can tell a different director and writer are working on it now.

As for my backlog. I need to get back to Usagi Drop. Saw the first episode, thought it was one of the best episodes I've ever seen in my life, and then didn't get around to watching the rest. Steins;Gate, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Natsume Yuujinchou (already seen the first season) are a couple others in my backlog as well.

The first half was intense as all hell, and then the second half went all Game of Thrones and around the 18th episode shit got epic. Hell, the whole mystery became that much more EPIC! The animation was to die for. Loved the story. Loved the writing. And I don't understand the hate... at all. I actually find it laughable, quite honestly. Sounds like the same sort of reaction to Code Geass. Didn't listen to them then, glad I didn't listen to them now.

Seriously though, it would be nice sometime if something was a bit more accurate about the costumes... none of those four modern ones look very close at all. So the only "decay" would be from the top, original one to any of the latter four; I don't think there's any decay from those male ones to their recent female counterparts, no.

Can't they agree on whether she should have pink or green hair, though? You know, like how Ikkitousen and Koihime Musou use the same names for their female versions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms characters. That can't be a coincidence.

Collection is definitely a downgrade from Otome.

It's more moe certainly, and arguably even less historically plausible, though Sengoku Otome's costumes aren't too high on that scale either... but whether it being more moe makes it worse or not is a matter of opinion I think.

The Sengoku Otome one is the more credible fighter for sure, though that image doesn't show her armed or with her weapon she still looks more the part than the last one.

Someday an anime will be made of animegaf, but with everyone represented by a kawaii female stereotype.

Five costumes, all completely insane historically, and the bra is the one thing you notice? THere's a lot more wrong with all of these designs than just that...

If you want to talk about underwear though, panties are a bigger issue than bras; bras only sometimes show up in these shows, but panties usually do, even though Japan of course didn't have either one until the later 19th to 20th centuries. Of course they had loincloths, worn by men, but women didn't wear that... nor did they have clothing anywhere near as skimpy as those are though, of course. But underwear's just one thing, they do so, so much wrong beyond that. Like, that Sengoku Basara version... :lol, I can't possibly imagine an actual historical Japanese person dressed like that... that costume's every bit as historically ridiculous as any of the female ones. That looks more like a Soul Calibur character than anything out of Japanese history. :lol

Until Akechi Mitsuhide-ko kills her for planning to introduce bras to the mainland, then it's another 400 years of sarashis.

But in Sengoku Otome it was all just a big misunderstanding of sorts (Akechi was jealous of how much attention Nobunaga was giving the MC, not realizing that Nobunaga liked her too...), and Nobunaga doesn't die in that fire, she saves the MC and gets out fine! What, that's not how it happened in the history?

Here's what I think of Medaka Box:

- Shouji Saeki is a shitty by the books director who is the most uninteresting long time staffer at Gainax

- NisiOisin is a sack of shit author who offends my very basic definition of good entertainment.

- The art looks like dogshit.

I don't know about these... for the first, I have no idea what the anime's director's track record is, I'd need a list of titles. For the second, what else has he written? I see the ___gatari stuff mentioned, so I guess that. From what I've seen of them (a good amount of Katana and a few eps of Bakemono), they're okay to good, but are prone to stupid plot points for sure... and as for the third, eh, the art in the manga is okay, though I don't know what the anime looks like, I don't think I've seen any of it.

Let's add another point:

- Follows the standard Shonen Jump Sinking Ship formula of switching into a really boring fighting comic when it started to slip in the rankings.

. While Fate/Zero does tie significantly into Heaven's Feel, moreso than any other storyline, without knowing about that aspect the entire storyline loses its impact and becomes worthless.

They could try to inject that early on into the story, but that was supposed to be a major revelation in Fate and one of the driving forces behind the conflict in Unlimited Blade Works. At the start of Heaven's Feel, the story already expects the audience to understand that this is a major plot element and twists it accordingly.
