With how big they're going in phase 3, I honestly wonder what the plan is after that.

Avengers Arena of course!!

I think they're probably propping up a lot of these second generation heroes on the publishing side in preparation for the future.

Superheroes have been a mainstay of popular culture since the 1930's. To think that the success of recent movies is a "bubble" is naive and short sighted.

There will be superhero movies that will be successful and there will be movies that will bust, but the superhero is here to stay. In movies. In tv. In every medium that exists and long after we're all dead.

I'm fully hooked in MCU, they can keep churning them out for however long. Weirdly enough, I don't feel the same desire to see endless Star Wars films even though I'm no less a fan of that franchise.

It could go on forever but I think they will at least have some breaks. If you have 20 superhero movies a year, people will get a bit sick of it I think.
This operates under the assumption that all these movies are basically the same, which isn't true, and that filmgoers don't have their specific favorite characters to follow, which is also not true. You're not going to necessarily see people stop watching Captain America movies because Fox puts out another Fantastic Four for some reason.

At some point, true, superheroes won't be the biggest thing anymore, just like westerns aren't as popular as they were. It won't be because people are tired of superhero movies, though. It will be because some other genre will rise up in popularity instead.

Showbiz is cyclical.

At some point the 'kids' will grow up and want something that is their own and the cinemas will be inundated with films based on Minecraft, Emojis and dramas about how everyone's addiction to Internet pornography has halted human procreation in developed countries.

Superheroes and Star Wars are like Dinosaurs. They may have to put the films on the back burner for 5 to 10 years at some point if audience fatigue does set in relative to budgets , but kids are not going to stop liking those sorts of stories. At worst you just need to wait long enough for a new generation of kids to arrive and for adults to start having nostalgic feelings about the films they saw in their youth.

They won't be going to the cinema at that point. They'll put on their VR goggles and meet their friends avatars at the virtual cinema.

Why? If they can keep making interesting movies more power to them. It's not like they're seeing fatigue with Marvel - Ant Man and Guardians were brilliant and knock the socks off many of their earlier films.

Ant Man was Iron Man 1 and Guardians was super meh. Can you remember any quotes from Guardians of the Galaxy?

Famous last words. Marvel films are starting to get bogged down in their own continuity, and they're running out of A-list heroes to do new timelines with. I don't think the box office numbers for Marvel films will sharply decline, but I think they've peaked.

Expected, but I've already been growing kinda tired of the MCU and feel no sense of urgency to watch non GotG or Netflix entries(still haven't watched Ultron, Ant Man, or Winter Soldier)

It'll be interesting to see how the culture responds to Star Wars once the mystique has been completely torn away. Wouldn't be surprised if the Anthology films were telling the better, fresher stories a decade from now.

MCU I'm fine with since there's a ton of stuff they can do with it, but Star wars is a bit more disconcerting. Spin offs are fine but I hope they at least can keep a 10 year gap between episode 9 and the next inevitable trilogy.

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a fun thing to observe. It's become more than the movies themselves and more about the Hollywood business model. It'll be fun to see how long they can keep it going. I'm looking forward to the next great story arch which'll start with the end of Thanos.

I think they can safely keep on with MCU simply because "superhero movie" isn't a precise term. Cap2 was a spy thriller. Avengers was a summer blockbuster popcorn movie. Ant Man was a heist. Strange is horror if the rumor mill is to be trusted.
