Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will 'go on forever', says Disney CEO

MCU is something they can milk forever and keep up the mediocre quality that they have so far and the fans will be happy. Star Wars is just a very different property, how many spin offs can they make. main series surely can't go on forever before completely jumping the shark again.

There have been quite a few mediocre star wars movies (and a few bad ones!) and they all made money

And it stops right where it should.

Also hey, Ultimate universe is dead.

Oh, totally agreed. I can't stand the vast majority of the Ultimate Universe myself. But those people denying that the MCU hasn't borrowed a large amount from the Ultimate Universe (both in terms of its visual elements and narrative throughlines) are kidding themselves.

"Grandpapa, is it true you were there for the first Marvel movie?"
"Yes, child."
"Why didn't anyone stop them?"
"We did not foresee the hell that had been created."

Just imagine kids in 40 years when they want to catch up with the MCU films.

"This is total BS. I can't believe Disney is announcing that they're done making Star Wars movies for the time being. Iger literally said back in 2016 that they would go on forever. I can't take Disney seriously anymore, contradictory people make me so mad."

Yeah that's kinda shit. I hate when franchises forget that every good story has to have an ending. Hopefully after Avengers 3 they'll retire the original Avengers for good. Give those characters a proud ending. Star Wars is less of a problem because I imagine they'll keep going the trilogy and standalone route, and each of those will follow the three act structure of the original Star Wars trilogy.

Marvel has been so smart by producing SH films with noticeably different moods from each other. I hope they find a way to produce an MCU Micronauts. Likely Spider-Man will return to films with a vengeance now that he's in the MCU. But even though there is an inexhaustible selection of Marvel characters and the MCU rosters will change (keeping things fresh), I expect Marvel character fatigue to set in eventually.

DC will have the opportunity to lead the market for several years. Not only the JL titles and Batman films, but also how long until Legion of Super-Heroes, or Plastic Man? But personally, I'm not sure DC has figured out how. Other than the Nolan Batman films, I've not enjoyed any DC-based film. I see similar criticisms in reviews so I'm not alone there. So I hope this year's DC films are awesome and not disappointing.

Speaking of Plastic-Man, or Elongated Man, the stretching thing has not been done correctly yet. Mr. Fantastic's limited film stretch powers were just mild teases, so far. Ant-Man did a very entertaining film with fun shrinking and growing, so the shrinking precedent has been set. But c'mon DC, give us a great stretching character soon.

God damnit, Slayven...
You don't expect it by now? I expect it in literally every thread.
Ant Man was Iron Man 1 and Guardians was super meh. Can you remember any quotes from Guardians of the Galaxy?
"I will bathe the star ways in your blood."

And I want a Wonder Man movie with all 3246592387645087 of his powers on display.
No you don't. No one does.
It was wishful thinking.

We could also get movies for The Champions and Lady Liberators. Replace Angel with Falcon and Iceman with Blizzard.
Blizzard's dead, home boy.

I didn't realize there was a full version of that. Holy shit.
That's not even the best Daredevil joke.

Everyone should read this book!

I'm sure Star Wars will go on for a long, long time. But I hope they give it a 5-10 year break after this trilogy. Part of the magic was not milking the films every year.

I have such a love-hate opinion of Disney.

I love so much of what they create! I fucking HATE that at this rate (if Disney has their way at least) ANYTHING created after or around the time Mickey Mouse was made will simply never become public domain.

It doesn't matter though. Disney is going to buy everything eventually.

I'm struggling to think of where they could even go for main MCU villains after Thanos. Like, if we had Fantastic Four characters it'd be absolutely no problem, but... what's after Thanos? The High Evolutionary? Or use Dormammu? Maybe make that Spider-man deal work and do Dark Reign with Norman Osborn? Can they use the Skrulls?

EDIT: Kang's considered a Fantastic Four character right?

I'm hoping after Thanos they stop with the world/universe ending stuff and get more personal with some new characters. Maybe after a couple years, and after Disney buys Galactus rights, then we can see another throw down. :D

Yeah, no reason to expect otherwise. Even if MCU nosedives, it's nosediving from "explosive to success" to "pretty good success" at worst.

But yeah, to me this probably means that we pretty much need to have a separate industry at this point for new stories and ideas. At least with Star Wars we're going to see new stories, but MCU is just logically going to be one adaptation after the next.

Please fix the title, the "go on forever" is about the "future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe" only, not about Star Wars.

But yeah we already have/had an expanded universe for Star Wars that proved the infinity of myth extensions that it could have. They won't be able to maintain quality over that many movies and likely TV shows for obvious reasons, even if they keep 10-15 years between the main movies.

Keep em coming. This is like a dream come true for my inner child. At least for Star Wars. I love immersing myself in that universe and would love nothing more than for it to continue for as long as possible.

Well I guess with Marvel they can be going on forever as long as they're still doing comics. With Star Wars I get people being concerned but I think it has to do with the prequel trilogy souring people of getting more movies, if the VII-IX trilogy ends up being good people will likely want more, regardless it might take several years for Episode X to come out.

Remember, Disney isn't doing any more live action stuff aside from their own works so Marvel/Star Wars fit that bill. Also, I say Hasbro gets brought out by Disney in...4 years.

Oh God, they are re-releasing Age of Ultron?!

Ant Man was Iron Man 1 and Guardians was super meh. Can you remember any quotes from Guardians of the Galaxy?

Is this really going to become the new metric to measure whether or not a movie is good? Stupidest fucking thing ever.
