I'm not really sure why Rogue One's more likely to be guilty of that than TFA.The premise of Rogue One sounds pretty different to what we've seen in the films before.

I guess just the nature of setting it in "OT time." It can be totally different, I have no idea. It just depends on how much restraint Edwards shows in writing and execution. It would be super easy for a fan that's directing a Star Wars movie set during the originals to fall prey to this. I don't even really have a problem with that as long as it's good.

IIRC, they shot on film but the effect shots were finished at 2k resolution so there's no benefit.
Disney won't be doing 4k/UHD this year (on any release) is the latest word. They might think it's too soon.

Man seriously I didn't think the lightsaber fight at the end of Episode III could be topped (for me anyway) and I still think the coreography is just fucking awesome, but the duel in this movie... the natural setting, the way the lightsabers emit their colors around the environment (trees, snowflakes, smoke), and so on just make it. It's the most atmospheric duel in the series for me as well, and that's saying something considering the Episode V duel.

It'll be interesting to see how much screen time the Knights of Ren get in VIII. If they're still alive.
Imagine if they had the technology back then to have the sabers emit light in the Empire Strikes Back duel.

It's hard for me to say if it would be better or worse because such a shot doesn't exist, but I prefer no light. The silhouettes look really good.
Guessing that's the scene where Maz was supposed to wreak some troopers, as they got out of her castle.

I contend the first teaser will come out May the Fourth.
I'd guess it comes after Force Awakens home video releases. Then they can put the button on TFA marketing and start Rogue One marketing.

In all honesty, this is actually what I'm looking forward the most.
Though I wish that'd actually add all of the known deleted scenes instead of such a few short ones.

The timestamp in the upper left is going to be a pain to cleanly remove though, for those interested in actually hacking together an extended edit.

For any EireGAF members in or near Dublin, the Disney store is doing an offer. Pre-order SW7 (14 I think on DVD and 18 on Blu-ray which is much better than what I've seen elsewhere) and get 20% off one item next time you're in the store after it releases, and they have the Light and Dark versions Amazon UK are selling. You also get any one or two SW Vinyl Pops for I think 7 each (?) if you like. You have to pay the lot in full by the way but I'm definitely doing it, I don't want to give HMV my custom (their prices for it are awful anyway) and I like those editions, although I still wish somewhere here did the version Target in the US is getting.
I know where this store is!!!! Oh how I miss Ireland...

I hated the way Kylo Ren's lightsaber looked in the very first reveal trailer, but since then I've almost come to prefer it to normal lightsabers. It just looks so dangerous with the licking energy. Its sound design is also fantastic.
