I think I'm going to go Biochem, for a while I was tempted by Cybertech (mostly by the craftable speeder) but I think I'll go with Biochem for my main and Cybertech and Artificer on alts.

Tom's Hardware has an article today which is mostly benchmark with a light opinion piece attached: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/star-wars-gaming-tests-review,3087.html

I wonder if FXAA can be forced with this engine. There's no way I'll pull off adaptive with a single 5850 and I'm not going to bother with MSAA if there's so many transparencies.

Usually forcing FXAA with a dll or on the driver level applies it to everything in a game, including the UI. In some games, this is fine, but I could see it making the UI look like shit and be less functional in an MMO.

Even though I'm late to the convo about MMOs and how they affect other game purchases. When I played WoW in college I saved SOOOO much money because I didn't play anything else, and I didn't go out nearly as much.

This is true. I don't understand why anyone would think an MMO is the "end all of your other gaming" talk. Stupid as hell.

I'm willing to bet that 99% of all Jedi are going to take Artifice b/c everybody and their brother wants to make their own Lightsaber (which it won't let you do, but you can still make mods and crystals for them).

I'm debating myself and trying to decide between practicality and RP.

If this ends up having an economy anything like WoW, the only Crafting profession that will stay eternally relevant is Biochem for the Stims (buffs). All other crafted gear from every other profession will likely be eclipsed by raid gear.

There also seems to be an extreme imbalance between the various Mission skills. Underworld Trading we now know can produce schematics for fully moddable gear. Investigation yields special gather Missions for all skills. Meanwhile the only special things Treasure Hunting gets you are soulbound Relics, so you can't sell them, and tokens for high-quality Companion Gifts, and Diplomacy yields only Light/Dark side points. (yes I'm specifically omitting the common rewards from the Mission skills - I'm only talking about what they get that is rare, and high value for cross-profession use).

Yeah, you make a good point. I thought Cybertech was the only crew skill to make mods that were used for every equipment, so it would be like a jewelcrafter. I guess not though.

I think I'll still do cybertech with scavenging and slicing. Has the engineer vibe. Might have fun stuff in the future.

Speaking of crafting what skill is everyone gonna aim for? I don't know if I want to do biochem or cybertech for my BH. Whatever secondary character I may make will get the other.

My three crew skills will be the following on my BH: Armormech, Scavenging, Underworld Trading.

Cybertech, Slicing, and Underworld Trading here. Slicing is direct credits, which makes it solid for a first / early release character. It will also open up rare mod blueprints for Cybertech, and I have a feeling that people are going to want lots of mods for their customizable gear. Underworld Trading is necessary for metals and companion gifts too, though I'm not entirely sure how much I'll care about companion gifts.

The only thing I'm wary of is not having an abundance of materials taken from scavenging, but the credits I get from Slicing will assure me that I'll only ever buy/obtain the exact metals I'll need.

Diplomacy gives you biochem materials now instead of UT (In addition to the LS/DS points). Treasure Hunting gives you artifice materials as well.

My IA Operative is going to be Biochem/Bioanalysis/Diplomacy, even though it does make him a bit of a cliche. My alt (Sith Warrior of some sort) is going to be a money maker with Slicing, Underworld Trading, and Investigation.

About crafting: how exactly do the companion bonuses work now? Did they change them when the put them back in the game? Do you have all of their bonuses cumulatively or is it just for the missions/crafts that particular companion performs?

There's Efficiency and there's Critical.

I think Efficiency increases the success rate of crew missions.
Critical increases the chance at getting better stuff from crew missions.

Reinstalling the client and it's not giving me a choice of build. I'm assuming it's what they're printing on the discs, but I have no way to know. This seems "safer" to leave installed than the last build to me, but that's probably just paranoia.

EDIT:

Maybe it's the same and they just moved it to the options menu...

I'm almost sure efficiency lowers crafting/mission time rather than affecting success rate.

Three or four builds ago, there were crafting Critical Successes that added a 4th "Modulator" slot on the items. For things that weren't moddable, it simply made 2 or 3 of them instead of 1.

I didn't witness any Critical Successes in the last two build so they may have been removed. I've also only ever seen failures on crafting Missions, but not actually on producing products.

Early Access is the 15th and I'm not posting the OT until the 13th because early access != launch date, plus it'll still be up before early access starts.

I got a pistol around level 10 that had four slots. I sold it off thinking there would be plenty more, but by the time the beta ended I realized that may have been a bad idea. Luckily, beta.

I still have no freaking clue what class I'm going to start with.

It seems like the ranged characters (Gun characters) have less focus on them in specific PvP environments.. They also seem to do way more damage than any other class..

Sorceror/Sage looks fun but feels like they only use like 4 skills over and over which seems kinda boring.. also not using your lightsaber makes me sad :(

Using your lightsaber in battle looks fun but it also feels like those melee lightsaber classes have huge targets on their heads and get focus fired down fast while also not doing amazing dmg compared to the range characters.

Got my client issues worked out - apparently I had to restart it one more time so the launcher could update one more time. Was able to login and get the redownload going after that. Whee!

Can anyone tell me what that ability is where a Jedi Shadow throws their DBLS and it spins in the air? I keep seeing it in videos, and I really want to know what ability that is.

Between healing myself and my companion, and doing damage at the same time, I count no less than 15 skills used in this battle I previously posted:
Corellia Bonus Kill

I guess the issue with that is that is mainly a healer and it wasn't something I was planning on rolling. I can see a healer having a lot of versatility and using a lot of skills but a DPS Sage mainly using the same dps skills they were just with more dmg and little to no healing.

Decided to sink even more cash into this launch by confirming my CE preorder and picking up a Razer Naga. Also thinking about picking up a Razer Nostromo or G13, any thoughts? Always feel like I never have enough keybindings close at hand for all the healing/CC stuff I've got to do

A question to those that have played more of the beta than I did:

You can only have three tradeskills, but you can have more than one companion/crew? So in theory I could be sending various people on various missions and have others craft stuff at the same time?

I only had the one companion in the beta, but the interface seems to point at there being a whole lot more later on.

Please confirm.

Yes you can.

Awesome, thanks.

Another clarifying question: each crew member has its own levels in the three tradeskills available?

No, all the crew members are working toward a common trade skill level. They only difference is some members have bonuses in various skills giving them a better chance of successes.

Speaking of crew skills, is it just me or does the ship Robot tend to fail more often than the other companions?

I can not wait until this is released. I'll have WoW and TOR to take up any gaming time and I can ignore consoles and their bullshit for a long, long time. Throw in Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 and its over. A next generation of consoles will pass me by.

Going to look into that Razor keyboard. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I simply can't imagine paying the price they are asking for that, given how few benefits it seems to actually offer. I'm not sure how you play exactly, but the custom keys are above the trackpad, on the far right side of the keyboard. My hand never finds itself there during this kind of MMO gameplay, because it's always on the mouse. Only the five macro keys are on the left side, and they're in a bit of an awkward place (like these macro keys tend to be).

For the price they are asking ($250!) you could get a high end mechanical keyboard and have plenty of money to spare.
