Star Wars: The Old Republic [Early Access: December 13th] Thread 2

I simply can't imagine paying the price they are asking for that, given how few benefits it seems to actually offer. I'm not sure how you play exactly, but the custom keys are above the trackpad, on the far right side of the keyboard. My hand never finds itself there during this kind of MMO gameplay, because it's always on the mouse. Only the five macro keys are on the left side, and they're in a bit of an awkward place (like these macro keys tend to be).

For the price they are asking ($250!) you could get a high end mechanical keyboard and have plenty of money to spare.

But it has lights.

ALL OF THE LIGHTS!

I can not wait until this is released. I'll have WoW and TOR to take up any gaming time and I can ignore consoles and their bullshit for a long, long time. Throw in Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 and its over. A next generation of consoles will pass me by.

Going to look into that Razor keyboard. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

If you are willing to spend that much money. You should just go with something with more customization like the Ergodex DX1. Actually they may no longer be in production...but if it is, it is a much more flexible MMO key input device.

Fuck....tempted.

I know I said I was disappointed in the game, but the fact that this CE appears to be so limited has me tempted.

Yay or nay?

edit: I guess I'll order it...I can always return it anyways.

You might as well hold on to it and sell it later for 200%+ profit.

Ordered it.

They'll be sending me the early access code so I assume I can play the early access and still return or resell the CE afterwards?

Seemed like a no brainer, I suppose.

Do Light Side/Dark Side points only affect customization options? Can you farm them?

Certain gear is locked to certain amounts of light or dark side. Post launch they said they plan to add neutral gear as well. Some of it is cosmetic, some of it is actual armor and equipment. Dark Side also can give you the dark side corruption appearance option for your character.

Can someone confirm that using the First Access code won't tie the CE to my account? I assume it won't, since it's being sent to me prior to the CE being sent.

I figure my options are this:

1) If I end up really liking the game, I can keep the CE for myself.
2) If it remains a pricy collector's item, I can resell it on Kijiji, Craigslist, or eBay.
3) If I can't find a buyer, I can return it to Futureshop.

How long can we play using Early Access? Can I keep my retail copy sealed and just return it if I don't think I'm liking the game?

Would have gotten the CE if the model was like Satele Shan instead of shitty ugly Darth Malgus.

Not worth all that cash.

It doesn't. All the early access codes do is let you play early. The game comes with another code that ties the purchase to your account.

Little lore question... who is the male jedi that is in a lot of the promo stuff and I'm pretty sure he's on all the box art. Isn't he the same guy that gets killed in the trailer? Seems weird he's all over the advertising and everything but he dies like 20 years before the game even takes place.

They affect your gear and your look (dark side only).

Certain gear can only be accessed if your at the required alignment level, such as Dark side I or Light side II for example.

As your dark side level increases your character will look more and more "corrupted", tho the visual impact of said corruption may vary from race to race. Some races are altered significantly while on others the impact is minor at best.

Concerning your ability to farm them or not. Its actually quite easy if you choose diplomacy as one of your "crafting" skills... its not actually a crafting skill but a mission skill. Not only do the diplomacy missions enable you to farm "gifts" that raise your companion affection towards you but also each mission has a "dark side" or a "light side" rating, which add to your alignment total.

At last, if you go for the middle ground approach and are not consistent with your dark side or light side dialogue/mission choices, the alignments points will negate themselves... for example, if you are at dark 4000 and light 60... your actual alignment score is dark 3940... there is no way to level each alignment concurrently.

Hope this helps. :)

Master Ven Zallow.

It is odd yes, as really they should have had Satelle in place of Zallow on the artwork.

I understand that games tend to have male centrict advertisement, and on anything but porn or sex innuendo publicity will tend to feature guys, even long dead ones that are completely irrelevant to the story, as is the case.

That being said, why dont they feature the awesomeness that is Darth Malgus? His story in the books and game lore is filled with amazing moments, hes in my opinion the main character of the TOR franchise as it stands.

I dont think its because they expect most people will identify with the Jedi instead of the Empire, because the reality is that most will roll empire over republic... seeing as the later is a crappy excuse for fun. :)

Yeah, the game is set in 3643 to 3641 BBY, Zallow was killed in 36553 BBY. So dumb to use him. And I wonder, for those who might have played a bit further during the beta: Does Shae Vizla show up in the game at all?

Well, Darth Malgus is featured in every cinematic trailer.

Man, someone posted an awesome Powertech Shield Tech build for PVP.

http://www.torhead.com/calculator/skill#301GoGRdRMRxzZrkbM.1

A ton of CC in there with all the tanky goodness. I probably would take a point out of Steely Resolve and put it into Shield Vents, but this looks good. Might roll with it possibly.

Wait, he was that dude in the Hope trailer? Wouldn't that mean he died?

I guess not.

I guess not.

He survived and then proceeded to kill a couple of jedi´s before he noticed he couldnt breath too well... so it was 1. Get Robot Mask 2. Kill more Jedi´s 3. Win

Malgus is everywhere too though, hes on the artbook, the CE box, and he used to be on the launcher as well, not to mention on the cover of the regular box and hes the statue in the CE. And hes in all the trailers, so hes more represented than any other character so far.

It's funny that through each cinematic they released they have made him better looking. In "Deception", he was like he is now, "Hope" roughed him up, and the Intro cinematic had him all fresh.

Makes sense.

Intro - Beginning to conflict
Deception - Attack on Crosucant
Hope - Fight back after the attach (so war has been raging for a good while now)

You probably already know this but that is because the trailers were released backwards. The correct order is Return > Hope > Decieved he gets progressively more corrupted with each trailer.

One week to go and I can't decide on a class! I've always been a healer, but I want to have a f'ing lightsaber (and use it).

We aren't sure yet. Any grace period info is forthcoming hopefully on Friday.

What they've said at this point is "any grace period we're offering cannot be talked about yet".

There are a couple comanions with some nice Lore. Some really good new ones like the 3rd Sith Warrior companion.

None seem to have as much story importance as Scourge though who is a major character in the Revan novel. I didn't even no this till looking at the list of companions and seeing the name of the character.

Most fun i had playing a healer was with the Sith Inquisitor, but you wont use your lightsaber much past the first couple of levels.

He's probably pretty important then. That novel any good btw?

It was alright, the biggest flaw would be that it is obviously meant to gap things between KOTOR 1 & 2 as well as what happens right after 2 with Revan and the Exile. So it sometimes doesn't feel as much like a story and almost like a history lesson with alot of descriptions of things a person would clearly know from playing the games. The ending I know will probably not sit well with some fans but it was interesting and obvious lot of it is set up for things to come in TOR with a bunch of little things tossed in that are obviously going to be apart of the game. It's also the first we get any info about the Emperor.

If you are completionist and want to know what happened after KOTOR 1 and after 2, then it's worth a read.

Hope is before Deception. Deception was the final part of the "story" before the Republic and the Sith signed the peace treaty. The attack on Coruscant was meant to force the Republic to agree to the treaty terms. Hope was merely one of the many battles in the war and just highlighted the battle between Satelle and Malgus showing how he became disfigured.

Uuuh... treaty? Man, I'm missing out on a lot of lore.

After the Sith attacked Coruscant which destroyed the Jedi temple and killed the Supreme Chancellor, they basically used it as leverage to force the Republic into signing a peace treaty while also having the Republic hand over control of 7 systems to the Empire as part of the deal. The game takes place years later after the treaty where the two sides have been in a cold war state and with it looking to be that the war is going to start up again.

Hmmm, wouldn't it be more Sith-like to destroy all of them? Seems out of character signing treaties and all that.

That novel was a travesty in my opinion. What a silly way to wrap up the Revan / Exile stories from the kotor games... overall it was a poor attempt at story telling and only goes to show that Bioware are not that good of a storyteller, the industry is just so bad as to make them look better than they are.

I would spoil it but the way they end the Revan story in TOR is even more insulting... seriously.

The war had been going on for 28 years, both sides were strained to the limit supposedly and it was the Emperor and Dark Council that ordered the attack to strong arm the Republic into agreeing to terms. The Sith couldn't have taken Coruscant, they would have had to retreat anyways and the war was likely to continue for a long time more when it basically turned into a stalemate for so long.

I didn't mind what they did with Revan, I thought it was interesting thing to do which I think is greatly influenced simply because of the existence of TOR which limited what they could have done with the character. If a KOTOR 3 had been made, I think we would have seen things more differently. Instead everything was just obvious set up story wise for TOR.

What I didn't like from the novel was how they handled the Exile, that was meh.

Yep, the exile was poorly handled, considering she survived an entire planet going "boom".
