There's a rumor that their contract with Lucasarts prohibits any sort of grace period.
I really don't understand what the grace period thing is.
Early access starts on the 13th right? and the game comes out on the 20th? so the "grace period" that everyone is referring to is the time between when early access ends and when the game officially launches? which can be counted in hours? I guess...
did I get it right?
It mostly applies to people who ordered the game online. Some people wouldn't get their game until a couple days after release, so they will be locked out until then.
some people are upset
Wait what? That's me... I pre-ordered online from Amazon. I am pre-downloading the client (all 30 gb!!!!) so I can play in the early access. Are you telling me that when early access ends, I'm going to have to wait for the disc in the mail and then reinstall the game... and probably fucking download updates?

Phheewwwww. exhale.
Edit: For the whiners, big woopty do. So your gonna have to wait for what pretty much amounts to a server maintenance period of time after a whole week of playing before you can play again. Chase that dragon.

Edit: For clarification, I don't care about waiting... but if I have to reinstall after sitting through literally a 36 hour download... then that is just ridiculous.
I'm trying to decide whether to get it or not. I played the beta for a day and thought it was pretty fun. I liked WoW, but got really burned out in Cataclysm so I am afraid the same thing will happen with this, even though it is a different game, but similar. WHAT TO DO?!
im not sure about redownloading the entire client because all we really need from our physical copies is the cd-key. I bet we wont even have to use our discs.
Being so close to the christmas mail rush and the fact that most MMO's have a grace period to balance this type of thing out is why people are not happy with the situation.
Some people are concerned that they will not get their copy when they expected it from shipping screwups due to the holidays, weather, etc. Some people already noticed their preorders on Amazon no longer guarantee release day shipment.Phheewwwww. exhale.

I have the same feeling. I really don't know if I should bite the bullet and just try it. What I played of the beta was pretty tame but I was really disappointed in the quests and the voice acting.
Bleh.
forgot how small raid groups were. Had decided to go with bodyguard but it is the only healer without a battle rez which could be a huge deal when picking your roster
going with flipping a coin
head - Sith Sorc
tails - Bodyguard
only scientific way to handle this
Whatever you prefer. One isn't better than the other. So I was dead set on going sniper, but I really think I'm going to go healer after all. I always play a healer in every mmo and I'm afraid if I stray away I won't like it and then fall behind re-rolling anyways =P
So.... Sorcerer or operative?

What, you don't like Mercenary?
Not wanting to play Bounty Hunter...no real reason though just cause. I'm leaning towards Operative at this point because of how much better their story is.
Id go Op, then you get the best ship, awesome story, and later can switch to Sniper.
Not to mention that they flat out lied.
They originally told us specifically that there would be a grace period, and many of us (including myself) pre-ordered from Amazon and other retailers because we knew that we could have the game delivered to our doorstep, without missing a second of playtime thanks to the grace period.
Now this is completely wrong. For myself, I get to deal with finals week this week, and won't be able to play much if at all during the EGA, and then I'll be rewarded next week by having to wait another week for a game that I have been supporting for years now.
That's why people are pissed off, not because of some sort of entitlement issues, because you are entitled for enjoying a product you are paying for, supporting, and were explicitly given information about when you made your original pledge of purchase via pre-order.
Yeah they did lie and went back on their word. we're going to remember this snafu next time they make a promise. Although it seems like they're trying to remedy the situation with notifying retailers to send out our orders asap.
hopefully the launch goes smoothly and everyone get their hard copies before the holiday sets in.
If by switch you mean re-rolling, b/c there's no AC changing coming any time soon. I'd like you to Georg's forum post, but well that's all been nuked.
Personally, I liked the BH story the best, but to each their own. Keep in mind that if you plan on playing Sniper later, you'll be playing the same story again, though you can always choose different dialogue options.

It's really a question of play style, utility, and resource management. Sorcs have more direct healing, play like a more traditional mana-based caster than the Operative. If you're more concerned about PvP than PvE, I would consider carefully; as things stand the Sorc is definitely going to be more capable of healing against burst than the Operative. It's simply an advantage of the nature of their Force resource not being gated into a curve. The Operative does have a number of tools to fight against that, but they're mostly cooldown related and they will expire themselves much more quickly. On the other hand, the Operative has stealth (always a nice PvP advantage, especially on a healer) including a form of group stealth, excellent sustained healing, and quite a bit of instant cast healing for doing it on the move for PvP.
Given the nature of MMO balance, things will evolve quickly, especially around launch. We know that they have some target goals, though, and that they want an equal representation of all three healers - that is, there really isn't any "hybrid" status in this game, you need to spec to fulfill a primary role no matter what class you're playing. Your best bet is to trust your instinct as to which style of play appeals to you more.
If it's still a tough choice after that, well... welcome to my world.
Yeah i get the feeling im going to have a crap ton of alts in this game.
Does anybody know if servers are going to be broken down by time zone? And is there a list of them anywhere yet?
I really need a West Coast server, even though I'm in the central time zone. The bulk of my play time is going to be early morning, and at night after my kids go to bed at 9pm CST, which is 7pm PST.
I made a mistake in WoW on server choices because I played in my own time zone and I was never really able to raid because I can't give my undivided attention to the game until the kids are out for the night. Most raiding usually starts around 7pm sever time, so if I can find a west coast server, that would be 9pm my time, which would be perfect.

Man you summed it up perfect or me Wallach. Sorc sounds more my style. I honestly think that was my biggest problem I had in Rift is I decided to do something different and go warrior and just wasn't feeling it...
You playing empire pve btw?

no list yet but im pretty sure both NA gaf guilds are on eastcoast servers. maybe we'll get a fourth guild going that is west coast based.
Stupid question about servers that I always wondered.
With WestCoast/EC servers, are they purely just the different time zones. What I mean to ask is, if I live in the West Coast, will I get better latency playing on those servers, will my experience be detrimental playing on EC servers, or is just purely, you know, most of the players on that server will be in my relative time zone.
Can we just pick a west coast server just for the hell of it?
All best coast gaffers can roll on it even if there is no guild.
right but some people are upset about this because their retail copies might not make it on release date.
For the most part though they usually do not sync the server time to the physical location or anything like that
Yes they do. MMOs since WoW have done it.
