Fucking fios router died Friday. Finally had an epiphany a few minutes ago, and hooked my sister's MBP up to the wall connection and set it into sharing mode. Works as a great router for now.

I am liking the game a lot so far. But blah, when I am working from 7am-6pm at work on a freaking Friday during what's considered a slow period, I am beginning to worry about my chances of being able to do end game. I don't think it's quite fair of me to put those kind of hours in, so I am going to try to leave the office around 5 from now on.

I loved the first issue of TorMag. Thank goodness they had a low res version or else my phone wouldn't be able to handle it.

The recruitment drive was pretty successful. Republic is at 76, and the Empire is now at 71. Watch out you Republic scum, we are coming for you! ;)

Really? By the third page I realized that teenagers had written it, and badly. I thought it was pretty embarrassing...

I like the concept of tormag, but you need competent writers to pull it off. We'll see where it goes.

If Darth Hater added a digital magazine every month, I could see it working, with guys like sado & dover watching over it. Not saying DH's articles are at a professional level, but they're competent, and their diction is at an adult level usually.

I didn't see anything in the OP about it so I figured I'd ask here. Any plans for a swtor Aus GAF clan?

Umm. About that. Uhh....

Gonna have to wait for an Oceanic launch I think. Maybe 6 months after release.

Ozzies and Kiwis can still make a guild on a West Coast server. It isn't ideal but it is better than nothing.

Ah, ok. Ya, if you're going the "buy the game & play on a U.S server" deal, I think it can be done.

Be nice to hear about more EU people getting into beta, if only to pique my confidence that they'll actually care about the EU servers in the long haul. For all its faults, WoW did a good job of looking after EU servers and it's customers.

Well they hired a whole crew in ireland, i'm sure they're gonna do some shit.

Just found out that a good bunch of my friends that I thought weren't interested in this game have already chosen their faction and what classes they're going to be. I got a call the other day asking if I wanted to play with them. I told him I was very interested and then he told me that they decided on the Dark Side. No big deal though I was planning to play Light Side. I told him I was interested in being a tank and apparently no one has claimed that role. So I decided to rummage around the Inquisitor forums on the main site and see if anyone had any idea if a Sith Assassin tank is viable. I found this thread:

Assassin Tanking?

It's a long read but a few guys who are playing at the moment dropped in and helped out with the discussion as best they could without breaking the rules. It seems like tanking with the Assassin is definitely doable and now I'm a happy camper. I get to tank with my double-bladed lightsaber and be all evil and stuff.

Reminds me of the WoW DK tank. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Though I'm still sticking with the Sith Juggernaut.

I don't care what they try to say, light armor tanking will suck. Regardless of what type of mechanic they try to implement (avoidance etc). I just can't see it being as good as the Sith Jugg. Maybe I'll eat crow on this, but I doubt it...

I don't think anyone is actually hired yet, as I haven't seen job ads for this anywhere in Ireland.

Chriswok said:
Yeah, I saw that and became slightly more optimistic. Seems all the MMO CS EU crews are in Ireland.

Ireland is CS central for almost everything in Europe. Without the CS jobs the Island would sink back into the ocean.

If the EU makes Ireland up its unfair 12.5% corporate tax the island will be even more fucked then now. And to be fair that would only be fair to other countries that have normal taxes and are bailing Ireland out now.

We won't know until we actually get to play. The consensus at the moment is that the light armor tanks will have a combination of avoidance, self healing and shields. From that thread, beta testers made it sound very much like a WoW DK tank. Not really a bad thing and it appears that they're very good at their job. We will see.

I guess I've just always hated it when people want to perform roles their classes weren't really designed for. Like DPS Warriors in WoW. If you want to DPS then roll a goddamn Rogue.

I feel the same about TOR. If you want to tank then roll a goddamn Sith Warrior. ;)

I only played a Jedi Shadow to about level 17 and I never tanked so I can't really say from experience, but I could see how the armor difference wouldn't be a problem.

Considering one of the Assassins skill trees on the website is described as "Focuses on defensive techniques to help protect the Assassin and his allies." I'd say it is designed as a tank, at least if you spec that way. Again, I never tanked as a Shadow so I can't say from personal experience how it really holds up to the heavy armor guys but I'm optimistic. I guess the true test would be endgame stuff though.

After spending most of my time in beta playing as Republic, I've decided to join The GAF Empire since it'll be a pretty fresh experience for me (my highest level Empire character was a level 11 Sniper). Probably going to go with Sith Marauder at launch unless there is a dire need for healers.

I realize there's a tree for it, there's the Fury tree for WoW warriors too. I guess I just use common sense. Heavy armor, single weapon, tank class is for tank. Anything else is just to appeal to wishy-washy people who don't want to commit to their role.

What? Is this dude for real? Attitudes like that are why innovation in breaking away from the Holy Trinity comes so slowly to MMOs. People shouldn't have to deal with "LOL ur not a tank, light armor ROFLCOPTER" if the class has been designated a tank until it's been demonstrated that it's not up to par. Give the damn class a chance. In beta, I've not seen any problems.

I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until (if) it is proven this type of tanks are worse at the job. I have worries that most will just prejudge them to be inferior as a tank and thus it will be harder to get groups and very hard to get the main tank gig in a raid.

Disclaimer with the raid size not sure how key a main tank will be. I am used to raids with much higher numbers.

I said I could very well be wrong, I haven't played the game yet so I don't know. Maybe they'll be fine.

You know what class definitely won't suck for tanking, though? Sith Juggernaut.

You could anonymously send me info somehow. *winkwink*

I'm planning on playing a Sith Assassin tank straight out of the gate. Basically the only thing I've gathered from current beta testers is that they're fine. That's about all they can say really.

Don't have to give raw numbers. No on got banned for saying a few general things about the game here. I think.

The only things you are explicitly allowed to say are that there is a beta, and that you're in it. I don't want to push my luck too far - Spectator may be watching. >.> Though, I hope adjusting wild prejudices against certain classes isn't too much over the line.

I don't really understand the prejudice against Shadow/Assassin. Tanks more based on avoidance and less on a flat damage reduction percentage are not new. It has been done before and to be honest avoidance tanks have more of a reputation of being overpowered rather than underpowered.

I just found out that raids on enemy capitals won't be possible. That kinda sucks. A couple of my best MMO moments were raids like that.

I really hope the animation quality and variety are up to par in this game. Part of the appeal with star wars combat always was the fast and flashy nature of lightsaber combat. Since there is no auto attack, i hope that you just wont spam the same basic skill as your bread and butter move, and make the combat look really static and boring. You could make each skill have maybe 2-3 separate animations, with the exact same number of frames, which then is randomized, so it looks fresh for a longer peroid of time. Also lightsaber parrying and adaptation to the incoming blows would be welcome, not just two players standing there doing their own thing with no regard to the other combatant.

I know this is tough, since a mmo is all about balance and numbers, but hey, you cant just settle for the 2004 WoW model and not try to evolve the concept. Especially when the source material is so reliant on lightsaber combat.

Capitals are considered newbie level planets. I could see them maybe in the future having some sort of instanced area for raiding the enemy capital.

I can see them not allowing us to noob hammer everyone there but shouldn't we at least be able to wipe out the NPCs there?

May I refer you to Obi Wan vs Vader on the first Death Star.
Luke vs Vader in RotJ is by far the best fight in the series. No flashy bullshit, just pure emotion. And the music...my god.

That's what I don't understand. If raids were possible in the way you describe, carebears wouldn't get griefed. This is the official line:

Stephen Reid from Bioware said:
Morsong's correct in this instance. Empire players cannot visit Coruscant. It is crawling with Republic forces, of course - who have their guards up after the assault on the planet.

There are other planets, though....

He is probably referring to the contested planets, but that is different. I want to raid the TOR equivalent of Orgrimmar, not fucking Crossroads.

I completely agree. Very disappointing IMO and I hope they eventually make some change to this. And I don't want just an instance for a raid on the city.

Vader/Obi-Wan in SW: Revisited is even better :)

Hey, for the Force Throw spell, why not just pull up rocks from the ground and throw them instead of an oil tank? You have that whole animation of bursting open the ground anyway. I think that would be cool.
