I seriously doubt this patch will be out by the time TOR launches. If it does, expect a shit-ton of minor bug-fixing patches.

And I don't think this is a "Oh, let's compete with TOR" patch as much as it is Blizzard's typical "Well, it's that time of the expansion when people start getting burned out with no new content so let's try and get people to hang around and wait for the last content patch" that comes with every expansion they've put out.

Either way, that's some good stuff. It will be neat to see warriors in Valor running around with Ashkandi.

4.3 *is* the last content patch. Or, at least, the last one to feature a raid. It is designed to compete with TOR, especially considering the raid will have you taking down the expansion's final villain.

I have severely mixed feelings on the way Blizz is handling it, though, but I guess it doesn't matter because I'm still not going back to WoW.

Nonetheless, their content patches or expansions have been always timed to deflect attention away from, if not directly compete with, other MMO releases. If testing starts soon (and all indications seem to imply that it will), then 4.3 and TOR will probably release within a month of each other.

How do you figure it's the last one? No where have they said that, infact they said they were moving Deathwing up due to Abyssal Maw not fitting now. So there is at least one more planned raid for 4.X

"This will be the last patch that includes new raid content for the Cataclysm expansion, Chilton said. But there will be another expansion, he added. He's just not ready to talk about it yet."

This type of thinking will destroy their quality of releases.

I swear I read a quote from Tom Chilton in which he said it was the final content patch for the expansion. I could have been mistaken though.

EDIT - Belfast found it.

Some would say it already has. But at the same time, the gulf between patches ever since WotLK has widened, a practice that has also hurt the playerbase and subscriptions.

This will change rather rapidly at launch. You probably won't be able to see/find the npc's in the sea of fresh hero's.

You won't have a fresh sea of heroes thanks to zone instancing.

Hmmm....

Patch 4.3: December
Mists of Pandaria paid content pack (4.4?): Early-mid Summer 2012
Expansion 4: Late 2012/Early 2013?

4.3 is the last "4." patch. There isn't a 4.4

Nu-Azeroth is what hurt their content I'd argue, not trying to compete with anything. People really underestimate how much work would go into doing a make over on the entire launch world of an MMO. It's clearly what truncated certain bits of content and what caused them to play catch up until now. I'd argue it was a big waste in the end as well.

4.3 will hopefully be return to form. I want to really see The Old Republic, WoW and Guild Wars 2 really going for each others throats. This is the first time in ages we'll likely see some real heavy duty competition and some mind share shifting, it'll be great.

I'm tired of every major release in this genre faceplanting.

I dunno. I really loved the idea of remaking Azeroth, even for the 1-60 crowd. I think it's just that they lost the balance between challenge/convenience somewhere in the mix. The 80-85 questing content was still quite involved, but it was too easy and too streamlined. But I don't think these are things that can necessarily be fixed with the current engine.

You need one that is more flexible and opens up options for the players, as well as mobs and bosses. I think enemies need more varied attack patterns and abilities than developers tend to give them, even the stuff you grind off of.

No patch with a raid. That doesn't rule out minor/"alternative" content patches, or minor bug fix/balance patches.

Bug patches will be 4.3.1, 4.3.2, etc.

They'll announce the new expansion at Blizzcon for a March/April release.

The quest design and little stories and humor were great, but the pre-cap challenge and tension are crap, you'll never see me disagree with that. I'm mostly talking about the glut of effort they put into it not the actual outcome.

It was still a waste for them in the end though, IMO. They should have found more simplistic ways to streamline it and put the content into where it belongs for a 7 year old game; at cap.

Anyhow, I'm sorry for veering this further off topic, I don't want to shit up this thread with WoW talk.

I could talk about other things, if the fuckers would give me a beta invite! Well, it's strict on the ol' NDA at the moment I assume, so maybe not....

Agreed on the effort. I got to the end of Twilight Highlands and I'm like..... that's it? The Twilight Hammer NEVER felt like a threat. Arthas had better build up, and that's saying something. :\

Okay, I can bridge the subjects. How about this? If you've played through, say, Vashj'ir and strip out most of the interesting quests, then you have....?

The phrase "overstays its welcome" comes to mind.

I liked Pazaak. My deck is still warm!

I bet that pazaak, maybe even dejarik will be added as patches for the cantinas. It's just too cool not to do. The hard part for Bioware is deciding how large these systems will be. Will it just be a simple diversion, no setup involved, or do you want tournaments, rare side deck cards etc., and how are these rare cards acquired? if you think about it, star wars chess (dejarik) would be way easier than a card game.

Don't worry. In the few decades it will become 6 crappy films when episodes VII-IX come out.

Hehe, I don't doubt it, to be fair he hasn't completly destroyed IV-VI yet so he has to finish that job off before moving on to the next.

Have hope, if that mythical future trilogy is based off Timothy Zahn's work, we are in for a treat.

Hope died a long time ago, It was killed in the birthing of Corporations. *not so veiled politics*

Anyway, whats everyone thinking for release date? My money is on late November. Going to say November 29th by what I have been seeing.

Edit: looked at the wrong month 30th is a wednesday

No pod racing, and I am sure adding it in at this point would just delay the game. I wouldn't be against adding such a thing later of course.

But this just reflects onto a large problem with MMO's in general, and TOR is just as bad as others in this regard; lack of social things to do outside of grouping to kill stuff/arena's.

What this game SHOULD have in no particular order;

1. Pazaak
2. That holographic combat chess game I can't remember the name of
3. A wide variety of emotes
4. Interactive environments; Currently you can't even sit in chairs, let alone give you fun things to play with, like a cantina jukebox or band you can tip to play specific tunes, how about a public 1v1 arena where you fight a series of monsters inside of a cage (only one person can start this event at a time), and any other number of limitless things I could come up with.

Unfortunately, all of that will be tossed to the wayside in favor of new dungeons/levels/loot and while I am sure those will all be fun, ultimately the game will begin to suffer from a repetitive feeling just like WoW has, and no amount of voice acting will save it from becoming dull.

I want to randomly walk into a cantina after having just watched (and bet on) the hourly duel between a jedi and a rancor at the arena , drop a credit into a jukebox, and play some Pazaak against some other people when suddenly someone shouts out someone is a dirty cheat and watch a PVP fight begin over at the next table. That sort of player-driven event would keep me playing forever, but the dev's will never give players the tools to do such things. Instead we will get Darth Bozo's Crypt which only 10% of us will ever actually get to see.

You said it better than I did. I know that they cannot add too much to the game at this stage wen they are just trying to get the game as it is out the door. But perhaps a future update can add these addtional things that you can do in the game.

For me the POD Racing or Swoop Racing would be a no-brainer. Hell, when the game has a major POD Racing Tournements, people can actually bet on the racers in the final or something. Something that in a Cantina you can watch on a monitor and place a bet...hell allow betting for all races?

I am looking forward the the game big time and I guess whenver someone is interested in something as I am in TOR I want the game to be the best it can be and adding more variety in content is just a big bonus for an MMO type of game.

I'd bet money on them having an expansion (or expansions) that improve space combat to be more in-depth and add a ton of mini games like podracing and pazaak.

Just read in Game Informer that this has been indefinitely delayed for Australia... is that true?
They are doing a staggered roll out across regions. I dont think they got the overseas locations finished yet

I think so too. Well, hope anyway.

Question. Not sure if you'd be NDA under this but with the space combat, does your level have any effect with space combat? Or is it purely on upgrades to your ship?

There are no australian servers.

Hence why I said 300ms. They have realms that are using our time zone, but nothing over here. I was hoping that this game would actually have something there for us.

Just remember, at this point in development their budget isn't unlimited.

If the game is successful, the patches with all the diversions we want will come, I believe.

It is GAF after all, gotta believe!

Did I mention I want some instanced apartments on Coruscant? Ya...

edit: thought this was cool from the leaked patch notes.

Yes, they showed a trailer for Huttball at the both yesterday. It looked pretty good and added some lore and fluff to the Warzone. It also gave me the impression there will be an announcer cheering and mocking the players - did not sound like that was for the trailer only.

They also did a live (at least I believe so) raid/operation downing the first boss and showing some parts of the Eternity Vault. Boss fight looked pretty polished and solid (much better than the "trash pull" in the press conference). Nothing new and innovative, but up to par with WoW for sure.

Also, saw a live Alderaan Warzone match later. That looked pretty good as well and I look forward to be playing a few matches myself in a few hours.

*Edit* They will probably post the new trailers and some of the live raid/PvP stuff in the next Friday update after gamescom.

This may be the dumbass who got his guild banned:
https://twitter.com/#!/DanielBMedia

From his tweets to David Bass begging for his account to be unbanned it sounds like he set up a stream of gameplay footage and posted it for his guild.

Eh so far SWTOR pvp doesn't look all that good to me. I was reading up on the PvP in GW2, and that sounds pretty cool. Why can't this game have something like that?

Because PvP in GW2 may end up being a pretty version of GW1 PvP? At least that's what the competitive side is saying.
