Unless you're torrenting 24/7, you're lucky to even hit 50 - 75 gig a month.

I regularly hit over 200GB/mo without torrenting. HD video downloads add up quickly. Tack on a couple beta and MMO public test realms at 15-40GB each, a few Steam game purchases at 10GB+ each, iTunes HD TV show subscription ~1GB per 30min episode (300GB SD + 700GB HD files)and you can easily legitimately cap out at even the "absurdly high less than 1% of our users" numbers that ISPs are now putting on their services. You don't even have to touch a torrent or single illegal service. God forbid it's a month where you have to wipe your computer and re-download your entire in-use Steam collection. I could've gotten Deus Ex HR on Steam, but I didn't want to blow the 10GB so I got it from Amazon on a disc instead.

The notion that anyone using over ~25GB of data a month is a pirate is a myth that needs to stop.

Not sure if this was posted, but it comes from PC Gamer's website on how the release date is tied to the beta testing...

EA’s Frank Gibeau has recently told CVG that fan reaction to the beta will determine when the The Old Republic will be released. Gibeau said EA wanted a smooth, problem free launch for the MMO, echoing the sentiment displayed when we discussed Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-orders with Bioware’s Dr Greg Zeschuck at Gamescom.

“[The release date] is definitely tied to the beta test feedback that’s ongoing and so far, so good.” said Gibeau. “We feel good about the date that we’re heading towards but… you could have a Crazy Ivan show up in the September/October beta test and be like, ‘wow, I’ve got to fix that’.”

EA and Bioware are determined to try and avoid the launch issues that have plagued other MMOs. Gibeau told the website: “We don’t want to happen to us what happened to WoW and a couple of other services where in the first week there were queues trying to get on to the servers, the entire service crashed – we don’t want that to happen. So we need to nail and make sure that it’s up 24/7 and it’s high quality.”

Pre-orders for the game are limited. An EA representative told Gamasutra they “are limiting launch quantities of Star Wars: The Old Republic to ensure players have a smooth and high quality game experience and service at launch.”

We spoken to Bioware creative officer Dr. Greg Zeschuk about Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-orders. He admitted that their servers could be jam-packed come release, saying, “If you don’t pre-order a copy you may not even get in in the first month just because there’s so many people on.”

Zeschuk also mentioned that Bioware were doing their best to ensure that The Old Republic avoided the problematic launches of other MMOs but admitted they couldn’t rule them out completely: “We’re trying to make sure we don’t have huge queues, I mean that’s something that WoW and other games had, it’s part of life, there’s only so many people get on. I mean if you happen to log on at precisely the wrong time there might be a small queue but it won’t be huge. We’re still optimising the size and the servers to make sure that’s not big experience problem. We don’t want to be plugged in waiting for ten minutes or whatever to play games on time.”

Huh, so a whole month. You think that's enough to determine if things are for a go. Who knows. If all is well, maybe we may see an end of Oct date?

Even in this day and age you can't be 100% sure that shit wont hit the fans once they open the servers to the masses on release.

So I can unerstand the secrecy about their release that and them wanting things to be running well.

Only thing that worry me is the absence of info about the EU beta.

My last launch was Champions Online and it was really well handled. Very smooth release;

The person who was the original leaker that pre orders were about to start has suggested October 27th is the launch date.

This 40GB install is ridiculous... Plus it's forcing me to upload and not even going at max speed. So basically it'll basically take a whole day to download?

Started at my usual speed 3MB/s but slowed down to like 200 kb/s so I paused and now it's not even starting. sigh

I am guessing they are having some infrastructure issues. EU invites are in danger of not going out this week etc

I started at 2 MB/s and I'm going at about 1MB/s now and have been for most of the night since I started at around 8ish.
Not sure how much is left to download but I supposed it really was wishful thinking that I'd get to play tonight.

I'm suddenly feeling ill and might have to take the day off work/work from home tomorrow though.

So if ea bioware are so worried about launch why not have a real open beta??? This makes no sense to me.
I think they are desperate to protect their story etc. If they move to open Beta they lose the limited control they have.

At this point beta weekends are more or less screw around and tell us if youll let us launch how it is weekends.

I think it's safe to say these weekend invites are our "open beta" testing.

And I'm still waiting to hear about the whole "you haven't seen half of the Operations". If there's more, where are they?

Guilds are finishing up the Eternity Vault. Not surprised since it's beta and encounter tuning is still happening The guy who posted this screen also outed his guild on Reddit while posting his thoughts on the Operation. Sucks for them.

right next to BF3?
Its very close for sure. Would be 2 days after the NA launch of BF3. Realistically they have a scheduling problem no matterwhat. November 8th is MW3. Personally I dont think either game will impact the MMO scene but EA makes the call

How about bit before Black Friday, and Thanksgiving? Wasn't that supposed to be the week that's most important to retailers as they sell majority of christmas presents during then? It would be ideal to get the game out for that I think.

This game may not even worry about retail timing. Didn't they say they sold more tor preorders than bf3? If they really are limiting launch then tor is selling out no matter when it comes out.

Every time someone posts about getting in I check my e-mail... and then I'm quickly disappointed :(

I really want to try this game out AHHHHHHHHH I wish the friends of mine who used to work at EA still worked there :p

.... you know, I'd buy it just to try it, but it's an MMO. I'd need to see the sub fees.

You get a month free, so why not? A month of content out of it, then bounce if the game isn't worth the sub.

Guess the EU invites will leave today or tomorrow! According to Rockjaw, they're having problems with sending the invites out and are aiming for this weekend to get them out. Yay!

They're having trouble finding Europe on the map.

Myself and my buddy got our invites (for a whopping 3 days), in Canada so I expect more are coming out.

Of course this happens the on day I am rushed and do not check my e-mail from home.

Is there any one that can give me a cheat sheet of how to download the client after logging into the site? I want to call my wife after to start it this morning so there will be a chance I can play tonight, if I can't explain it in a few sentences I am fooked :p

The site is brutal navigating on my phone and I am firewalled at work.
