So happy Bioware decided to NOT put a LFG button in. The LFG tool basically killed almost all non-guild interaction in WoW. I like just asking to get a group and seeing how it comes together. Some people are jerks but most are pretty cool. There's something about the automated groups that just takes the life out of it. It's pretty much the point of playing an MMO as far as I'm concerned.

As opposed to spamming up chat with dozens if not hundreds of people all asking for a group? It's going to be an absolute mess at launch.

But wouldnt you guys want to be on the serious progression server where the high end guilds are so we can proove our worth amongst the greats?
Fuck those guys. They smell. And poop in their socks. Those of us in Republic GAF can barely fit in time for SWTOR because of all the women we're constantly dating.

Cybering with your companion character in your personal starship doesn't count as dating.

GAF guilds don't work that way. Most people will quit after a month or two, and those of us dedicated to the game won't be enough to compete with the min/maxers. More causal than anything.

A wonderful mess. Once people start progressing it all balances out. That's the fun of an MMO. A bunch of people all discovering and enjoying a world together. I had fun in the beta and really looking forward to this game all of a sudden.

My answer was to not do any of them, but I'm a curmudgeon.

Oh I was serious about doing end game, lol. It may be only 2-3 hours sunday through thursday, but is that not serious enough for most nights?

I know I won't be on some nights, but for the majority I will.

Hmmm... Do I play star wars till midnight, or do I work on finishing Batman?

BTW bounty hunter is amazing. I'm getting worried I am going to want to switch to trooper at launch...

My opinion has continued to improve of this game the past few months as I have seen newer and newer builds.

I think this may finally be the one to give WoW a run on its money

So what's everyone opinion of the game now that the beta weekend is almost over. Curious to know what's GAF take on it.

Personally, I'm quite happy even though I wished the combat wasn't so... conventional. If only it had TERA's combat system...

That is until Mists of Pandaria comes out.

Pandas was clearly a strategic choice.

That said, WoW is long in the tooth. And if endgame SWTOR is good, they'll have a very healthy population.

I wouldn't say "give WoW a run for it's money" or "WoW killer" or anything like that, but it will, based on my experiences with the game, do well for itself.

I've probably read more negative than positive on that expansion. It's still going to sell very well but I think a lot of the user base is ready for something new and fresh (or on the other hand, want their free Diablo 3). The bigger question stands, how many will go back to Mists after SW:ToR. Or the other big factor is if GW2 releases before Mist.

I don't know about that. Anectdotal evidence here, but most of my friends who quit have said Pandas won't be enough to bring them back.

I'm not talking go play Warhammer, and come back for Wrath quit, but I mean genuinely done with WoW quit.

Judging by the general channel chat and my friends impressions of the beta, I think this game is going to do extremely well.

They still have ton of players in WoW, it's not going to sink to any other game any time soon.

TOR just has to do well to secure it's own fanbase that will keep it afloat.

TOR won't 'kill' WoW but it along with Guild Wars 2 will be pretty appealing alternatives to older WoW players and new players to the genre who are looking for something fresh.

Oh I am not saying WoW is going to fold overnight or anything. I'm just saying besides new launch growth, I think you're going to see new subs moving over to TOR instead of WoW. There won't be enough new subs to stem the bleeding of those leaving.

That's fair, it's going to be a loooong and slow death for WoW.

Mists will release six months before GW2. Fuck, I doubt GW2 will even be in public beta before Mists comes out.

Instanced worlds suck.

Other than that my experience this weekend was great, I thoroughly enjoyed the game played it almost all day and feel that it is a generally good experience.

I will pick it up but end game will dictate how long this game sticks with people.

I think the storylines in SWTOR are really going to hook in a lot of people. For them its not going to be the destination, its going to be the journey.

Smuggler or BH?

BH personally. Do you prefer a walking tank with every weapon under the sun blowing shit up, or do you prefer a guy who hides behind rocks, busting caps in people and kicking folks in the nads?

Well, I have just finished up for the weekend and wanted to write up my impressions. I am a long time WoW player and a main tank for a 5/7 heroic progression guild. I leveled a Jedi Knight up to level 15. I Spec'd as a tank once I was able to choose my advanced class and start picking talents. I did 1 flashpoint (4 man dungeon) and a couple of heroic quests (mini-dungeons that take 2 - 4 people). I also did 3 rounds of PVP, but ended up in the same war zone each time. I figured I would do more flashpoints and PVP, but the story was compelling enough to keep me leveling.

Overall Feel: The game feels remarkably smooth (especially for a beta). The combat is very fluid and as I started to get more abilities I was using 5 or 6 different abilities on each fight. I ran into remarkably few bugs, and even if they shipped today it would be better shape than other MMOs have been at launch. The UI needs a bit of work as it can be tough to figure out what everything does. It is not nearly customizable enough and I really missed threat indicators when I was trying to tank. Hopefully mods come shortly after lunch. Overall though it feels very similar to WoW, especially late TBC WoW.

Leveling: This is where TOR blows away WoW. I did not even care about any of the Republic stories going into the beta, but I really got into the JK story. Having all of the voice acting makes questing and leveling so much more compelling than just reading the quests and clicking accept. Also having light side and dark side choices makes you feel like you have some ownership of your character and the story around you. If you like Mass Effect for its story, you will like The Old Republic. You could play this as a solo game from beginning to end and it would be worth the money... and there are 8 separate stories. I could absolutely see myself leveling every class to max level on both Empire and Republic.

Flashpoints and Heroic Quests: The flashpoint I did was really fun for a low level dungeon. However, I was supposed to be tanking and at level 10 they had not given me a taunt or a threat presence (I got threat presence at 14, I think a taunt comes at 16). Having the story and being able to make choices in the Flashpoints really makes them compelling in a way that WoW never was (since I never really went to outside sources to get the lore in Wow), but WoW is much better about the order it gives you your skills post 3.0. In my opinion as soon as you pick your Advanced Class as a tank, you should get a +threat stance and a taunt. The final Heroic Quest I did was genuinely hard, requiring CCs and line of sighting on certain pulls. My group of 4 was not able to finish the quest as it was either overtuned on beta, or our healer was terrible. I am not sure how much healers should be able to handle at level 14. So I liked the group content, but I did not love it at least at levels 10 - 15.

PVP: Feels exactly like low level WoW PVP so far to me. I liked what little of it I did.

This is easily the best non WoW MMO that I have tried. If the raid content is there, I will most likely be switching. The idea of leveling 85 - 90 (or 1 - 90 on a Monk) without voice acting and a compelling story just sounds painful after getting some time with The Old Republic. Hopefully the endgame is as impressive as levels 1 - 15 were.

Any idea if Bioware will release an authenticator for Android phones? Would love to cancel my CE but still want to protect my account.

I didn't expect to like it but that was a lot of fun and it'll be really great in co-op it seems like. Sadly I didn't get to try since I'm the only person I know who got in :lol. I'm looking forward to the launch, oog, another 60 to spend.

I just got up to Balmorra, I would have gone farther but I was more interested in figuring out which class I want to main. Tough call between Sith Inquisitor healer or Bounty Hunter tank.

Beta is in really good shape though. Aside from the aforementioned Open World Instancing and a few other minor issues.

I played a trooper and bounty hunter to level 12ish or so, and I was impressed with both leveling experiences. Everything felt remarkably fluid and tight for an MMO so close to launch. I was half expecting a disaster, but once I got through the queue I was pleased with what Bioware has done. I stopped playing yesterday because I didn't want to spoil the launch. Nearly certain I am going bounty hunter.

I have the CE ordered from Amazon. Zero chance I cancel that thing after this weekend. I know MMORPGs aren't for everybody, but this game is really good and deserves the hype.

I didn't know if this story in a MMO thing was actually going to be compelling for me, but it is. I'll play 1-10 at minimum 4 times, as there are 4 sets of zero repeating content, and if it keeps up I'll redo the whole game for each class.

There was no reason for me to do WoW more than twice, because I just toured the scenery in each faction's zones with a character from each. Didn't miss anything by not doing the quests.

Yeah, if you have the PC for it.

I won't get into spec specifics in case they do a ton of optimization before launch, but if you were thinking this looks kinda like the recent WoW expansions so it'll have requirements that aren't much higher...you're mistaken. The CPU demands in particular seem to be much, much higher.

never heard about the cat, apparently
yeah mine wasn't exactly smooth, not that i was expecting it with my computer. I'll wait to see how it is in the final release to see if i need to upgrade my video card.
