The world quest are just as good. Hell, I would say some of the bigger world quest are the best in the game.

Completely disagree. Taris and Nar Shadaa really stick out as having a bunch of crap quests.

I'm surprised big WoW guilds are choosing this game to go to. It's so unpolished. They'll be waiting 2-3 years for the polish that WoW has. And normally their big complaint is difficulty. This game lets you rez where you died with invisibility for 8 seconds with no penalty.

This is completely false. They really revamped difficulty atleast for questing(not sure about raids). Ravaged Reconstruction on Taris is damn near impossible now. You only get one party rez with no penalty if you're not a healing class before you have to wait 15 minutes to rez somebody again.

This is wrong. Shadows and Assassins also get full stealth.

Hm never tried those classes, I thought they didn't have as robust stealth as the other two.

Most WoW guilds are filled with people sick of WoW. Lot of these big guilds constantly try something else but if it doesn't do well or bunch of the guild stops playing, the whole guild drops the game or just leaves a tiny portion of the guild behind, but to stay in many of these guilds players have to participate and they are called back to playing WoW. See it with tons of guild, they are full of people sick of WoW but so many MMO's have failed. The expectations of a game coming out with the sheer amount of polish as a game thats been out for 7 years and have some of the biggest financial backing? Pretty ridiculous. They try the game at launch, see the issues, and immediately write it off.

RIFT was the most polished MMO launch in a long time, yet even with tons of polish, it didn't have huge success, though it did succeed at garnering a large niche. While RIFT was polished, it still had many issues as well though. TOR is looking quite polished at this moment, still has some issues but compared to the disasters of past MMO launches, it looks like it should do fine. This isn't like the countless other MMOs where the beta showed a clearly unfinished and very borked game going to market like WAR and AoC. No game is going to launch 100% though.

But still stands, players want something new when it comes to MMOs, and this is probably the most hyped MMO in a long time. My GF's guild has over 200 folks all hyped up for TOR. Have they dropped past games? Of course, but what really has come out that was actually good without multitudes of launch problems? RIFT is all I can think of and that game suffered from having next to no hype, but still has kept a plentiful player base even if they can't break 1 million, it keeps them going and doing well.

Yeah, I think this is me too.

That whole Panda shit is a turn off, and this is the next best thing until GW2
never
comes out.

Yeah, Cataclysm is what ended it for me. As a Shaman player, I just couldn't take being the worst class at everything for another expansion. Since no other class in WoW appealed to me, I quit earlier this year. ToR is the first MMO that I've really enjoyed since leaving WoW.

The hype was huge for RIFT and WAR and Conan but as usual it mostly centers around the PvP community. At any rate, it's more of a general discussion about MMO-Demographic bases so I won't clog up the TOR thread any further. Looking forward to next beta weekend.

That's some stupid rumor people spread months and months ago and I thought it was dead. I have a level 15 Sith Assassin. My stealth is just as good as the Scoundrel's.

Rock Paper Shotgun is giving beta keys for a beta weekend here. Don't know if this has been posted before, guess it shouldn't hurt.

Already got mine.

Requested membership with the republic.

Conan's hype was based around its story which panned out to be nothing new and stoped existing past level 20 .

SWTOR is in a diffrent league. IN fact i bet with VO story this game will have the same bounce back with every expansion pack. Tons of people will buy it just for the new story.

I also think bioware/ea has more resources than the other companys to make sure there is enough new content consistantly coming into the game

yeah should have great expansions. I worry about live updates though but after the last couple years of wow I'm not exactly accustomed to constant updates anyway =\

WAR and Conan yes, but RIFT didn't have anywhere as much hype, the game didn't even sell 1 million copies alone (and still hasn't reached that). RIFT was plagued by countless delays which helped in it's favor, but it's launch was fairly low key to the other big launches we've seen for MMOs which I think in large part came from so many disappointments in the genre along with how delayed it was, and that is was an original new IP

Some guy is live streaming the first 15 levels of Jedi Knight;

http://www.twitch.tv/towelliee

Guess the NDA was partially lifted.
yep looking at that stream...i need a new video card. My Radeon HD 3800 just doesn't cut it anymore lol (not too surprising). It is playable though, just i need a upgrade (and would like to play battlefield as well).

So what is the deal with the beta?

I got an email saying the will invite me but I haven't heard anything since.

I wanna give it a try to see. Maybe it is for this next weekend?

We don't know yet. It may be next weekend or next month.

Edit: Curse is giving away keys if you have an account there. Not sure on the details with it yet. Just says "Event 1".

LOL. One of the guys that was streaming the game is arguing with a TwitchTV admin after he hasn't supplied any information at all that he was allowed to stream.

from the way the e-mail is worded it sounds like we will see beta codes being given away by games sites before the next wave is let in.

still havent gotten my e-mail to reset my password.

So is the collectors edition a limited run?

Yes, only the amount issued for the launch will be available for purchase, afterwards only the standard edition will be printed (not sure about DD on Origin tho)

But the do the glowsticker's also get the group stealth?

I've been a bad SW fanboy. I've not checked this thread at all nor have I kept up with the news. In unrelated news, I'm considering changing my name to Dovahkiin.

Cross post from the EU thread, but the TOR tie in novel Revan is out today

My backlog is going to be huge since I refuse to buy any more books until Christmas. Thanks for the heads up!

I definitely won't be buying this after playing the beta. I expected it to look and feel better. I didn't have fun progressing. The class I picked (marauder) was boring. I quit that at level 20 and leveled a Bounty Hunter until around 11 and didn't have much fun with that either.
Just FYI, the warrior classes (Juggernaut, Marauder, Guardian, Sentinel) will be getting a revamp. It sounds like Bioware is aware that these classes aren't up to par yet. However, the fact that you didn't have fun with the Bounty Hunter either makes it sound like you dislike an overall aspect of the game.

I thought the flashpoints were neat but I didn't like the fact you rolled dice to get your character into the speaking action. I went through an entire flashpoint where one guy won 90% of the rolls.
Another FYI, the rolls are bugged during this build. If you noticed, sometimes people actually roll over 100 and for some reason one party member usually gets the majority for high rolls which isn't supposed to happen.

I'm disappointed that its a WoW clone. I can't wait until MMOs can be successful without having to copy the same formula.

I know plenty of you love the game. It's just not for me. I've fallen out of love with MMO play I think.
That's a shame but I'll respect your opinion. I'm sure I'm not the only one that actually wanted a WoW clone with a Star Wars skin. I'm also a huge fan of BioWare's style so the equation is a very good one for me. WoW + BioWare + Star Wars = Big time fun for me!

I wonder if there is a correlation between these giant open beta weekends and pre-orders. I know that I was on the fence until I got into this weekend. That is probably why they have decided to open the flood gates to everyone for the last weekend. They better have a literal shit ton of servers up though.

I doubt it . The game should be way over 1m preorders in the states alone . I bet tehy are doing this because of the poor scaling of the servers. Last beta test weekend some servers had hour long lines to get in

I've entered my beta code for "Event 1". But, I do not see any links to download the client. Am I missing something?
Yes. They haven't let anybody download the client yet.

EDIt: Download is up? Huh. Well I guess I was wrong.

There is some part of the beta (especially late stage stress tests) that are no doubt designed to increase hype for any game. But in the case of high profile MMO's I'm willing to give them a pass and also say that they are looking to make sure the servers are stable at launch too.

I'm thinking about trying Jedi Knight next weekend.
