I am very disappointed in how they handled my invite to the beta weekend this past weekend. I was not able to download the client, and then just to add insult to injury they send me an email thanking me for testing.

I couldn't even get on the beta forums, because the fucking website would not recognize my account as flagged for beta. Really, did I just beta test their fucking beta test infrastructure?

Bah, over Thanksgiving would be bad for a lot of people since most have holiday obligations to attend. I hope they push it back to a week after.

early acess starts the 15th. If they really want one last huge stress test they are going to want more than a week to fix whatever went wrong or bulk up the server count for launch. So the latest they would do it is the 3th through the 5th of december

Did you accept the invite ? Just getting the email wasn't enough you had to go before the test started and opt in.

To be sure -

I received the code, created account and skipped the contact info fill (To be considered for testing, please make sure you have provided the additional required information:), entered the code and I am in Event one.

Must I even fill my contact information to be sure to get in the game if I am flagged for the beta?

You really can play this game like KOTOR 3. It's kinda kick ass. It does a pretty amazing job of letting you feel like the one true hero despite the dozens of people doing the exact same thing you're doing. The only MMO intrustion into the single player suspension of disbelief is when you have like 6 people trying to talk to the same NPC you do. But you know what? I'm more than content to pretend that they're all whiny hangers on bothering the important person who really just wants to talk to special heroic me.

The whole issue with the so many people doing the same thing that bugs some people is not much of a problem at later levels. In the early levels players of the same class are in the same area doing the exact same thing, while the game opens up later on you get a bigger mix of classes together. You also get players who then have different companions unlocked as well as more customization options for them so you get more visual variety in the world. During the early levels everyone looks the same since they got the same exact quest gear, abilities, and the same exact companion.

Republic GAF is approaching 100 members. I expect this to continue to grow as people get a chance at playing the beta.

I'm just curious, how many would be interested in some sort of raiding schedule?

I accepted the invite, got the email with the "INSTALL GAME" link, which took me to a page that said PLEASE RSVP, which I did, which brought me back to the same fucking page, an endless cycle of RSVPing, lol.

I haven't mentioned that I couldn't even login to their shitty website on the 10th, or the 11th, it just would reload the page, and when I tried the forgot password page in the support menu, it gave an error page. Anyway... fuck it.

I trust that they know what they are doing but I would suspect that you'd get fewer people playing over T day because of the holiday. That might compromise the integrity of the stress test.

Plus you know, Bioware employees being with the family over the holiday would be nice. Not sure that I'd be comfortable with a company that would require people to come in on that weekend unless it was something like retail where that is expected.

Edit: Oh wait, part of their studio is Canadian. I guess that makes sense.

Not only that but thanksgiving is a thursday isn't it ? So they could still spend time with the family and have testing from Friday to Tuesday.

But anyway alot of people will be able to play since they are home.

Yes but most office type places in the States have that weekend (including Friday off) as standard. Even places with shitty 5 official holidays celebrated per year have that Friday off. There are a lot of places that don't (mostly retail, customer service type jobs) but I'd feel bad if Bioware Austin employees would have to give up that weekend. Americans already get shafted with a crappy holiday schedule in general.

So I guess probably Thanksgiving weekend or the weekend after.

Edit: Plus with their game going live on the 20th of December you know that there are people already giving up their Christmas break to make sure things stay stable.

1 MILLION hours. That's a LOT :D

SWTOR had over 1m hours of testing last weekend - BioWare Austin "working their asses off".

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-16-swtor-had-over-1m-hours-of-testing-last-weekend

Over a million hours of testing went into upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic last weekend, BioWare has revealed.

Tens of thousands of people played the game in an effort to ensure a smooth launch next month, BioWare co-founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka told Eurogamer in an interview at BAFTA, London last night.

The mood at BioWare Austin, where the game is being developed, is "very measured" Zeschuk said.

"It's not panicky. I just came from Austin. It's very measured. It is coming soon. The game is largely where we want to be. It's not like we're trying to jam anything in in the last minute. We're trying to finish everything off to the level we're satisfied with.

"What's really important is it's stable and reliable and doesn't crash all of the time. If you put a whole bunch of stuff in right at the end it makes it less stable, so we're controlling the end. This is how we finish most games. What we do is, early on in development the pipe is really big. Anyone can put stuff into the game and then we narrow it and narrow it and narrow it. Now we're in this narrow pipe phase where stuff is still going in, but it's being carefully measured.

"Against that we're testing. This weekend we had a big test - tens upon tens of thousands. One crazy number is we had over a million hours of testing over the weekend. It was a huge test, and there are even bigger ones coming. The key thing is for us to take those learnings, apply them and make the service really stable. We're happy with the game."
Open beta testing for the MMO will begin soon - you can grab beta keys here - the exact weekend, however, BioWare is yet to announce.

"Our goal is a smooth launch," Muzyka added. "We want to serve our players really well. We want to serve them with a great, stable, secure, high quality experience. That's our goal. We're doing everything we can.

"This is a massive undertaking to make sure we figure out everything that could possibly go wrong and trying our best. The team is working their asses off. They're passionate about serving our fans and making this great for them. They're working long hours and through the weekends to make sure they get every minute of testing they possibly can and fix every issue they find. They're doing well. I'm proud of them. They're working hard and they're doing a great job."

BioWare will limit the availability of the game in an effort to ensure that smooth launch - a tactic Zeschuk said will help boost The Old Republic's stability.

"One of the ways we can ensure the service is good is we're not selling beyond a certain point," he said. "Like, at a certain point it'll sell out. We will release more units based on the stability of the service, then we will turn that dial carefully. For example, through Origin we can very quickly and responsibly add more units depending on availability.

"Everyone's cautiously optimistic. We're all very paranoid."

I know it may be PR fluff, but I like reading stuff like that. It makes it sound like they're proud of their product but not so confident that they're just going to slide by on the fact that it's a Star Wars game. I'm really excited to see their launch product.

Man I really gotta stop playing this game and finish Batman/Skyrim. But it's so freaking good! I know once it comes out next month I will be done with my console for a while.

Are we talking through launch or just for the upcoming betas?

Just beta. I means the next beta wave will probably the same 'build' with some patches to it as most of the wipes came on the heels of new builds.

The Eternity Vault, a remnant of a once powerful empire, is believed to house The Infernal One, an ancient and deadly evil that poses a risk to the entire galaxy.

I know that for most betas accounts and progress reset after the official release...is that the case here?

Yes, very very few MMOs ever let you keep your character from beta. Last one I can think of was the LoTRO open beta and they maxed it out at 15.

Yeah, sorry. Meant for this coming weekend.

He confirmed it on Twitter but those that were in the last beta might want to go take a look at the forums. It is going to be a new build which is why they needed to confirm the transfer. Another 20 GB to download and if you are previous weekend tester that means you can't start it till they flag you as scheduled again because they took you off the access block :/

Is there a guide to the crew skills. Dear freaking lord I was so lost today when I hit lvl 10.
What do you mean? If you click on a Crew Skill Trainer you get a description of it in your log.

Also I liked that every crew skill that you discovered for your codex also had the appropriate accompanying crew skills labeled for you as well. I thought that was a really nice touch and certainly helps someone figure out which ones to go with for their craft.

Yeah but like what ones compliment my training as a sniper. I picked one crafting class because my companion had *something something*, but picked two others sheerly out of randomness.

Ok, I admit I quickly picked because I had a group waiting for me @ a flashpoint. I will go read more carefully now sheesh lol.

The codex lists all that. I missed it at first too.

Reid confirmed on Twitter that people in last weekend's beta will keep their characters.

Um, I was going to join Republic GAF and roll smuggler...but now I am too invested in my BH if my character is carrying over....

FOR THE EMPIRE.

Keep them only for the next beta event. Everything resets at release.

Damn...then that's no good, as I won't be able to play next weekend as I'll be home for the holiday.

I guess it's back to the Smuggler and Republic...FOR THE REPUBLIC!

Personally I'm going to hang off the beta weekends, I don't want to be downloading 30+ gig only to do the same a few weeks later. Some of us have ISP's with fair usage policies. :(

Same here.

Plus it'll be a fresher experience imo.
