Well, I'm hooked. Played basically all night and got to level 13 as a Jedi Shadow. Also did the first Flashpoint (Esseles) with a friend which was a blast.

I love that it gives you loot for your characters you can use instead of worthless crap.

Going to try the empire side when I play next so I can make my choice for retail.

Loot is still random. I just did BT on my Sorc and all that dropped was BH armor.

Ah that's a shame, the one I did dropped all Jedi Shadow stuff for me

Also Bioware, please don't EVER introduce dungeon finder, I will hate you forever if you do

How much does AA affect the framerate?

It made a drastic difference in the visual quality of my game and performance stabilized (I set it AA to 8, it's a smooth 60 now. Before I was dropping to 35-40 in some areas in the starter zone. The in game settings didn't seem to apply for some reason.

Their current stance is that Dungeon Finders like the one in WoW are bad for community building. Wish I could find the actual quote, but it was a couple months ago.

Some good tools to facilitate group finding would be awesome (automatically post your name in a list any time you pick up a group quest for example), but what the WoW cross-realm dungeon finder did was absolutely destroy server communities.

Yup

The last thing I want to see with this game is everyone standing in a main city using menus to do anything

They do need a quick way to get to places though >.< summoning or something.

Why dont they care about community for bgs >_>?

It's alright, very much a World of Warcraft clone. I really can't find anything in this game that justifies its massive $300 million budget and the huge number of manpower-hours that were spent on it.

Really liked what I got a chance to play today. I'll be buying it a few months after release. I'd rather play ME3 first for some reason. Feel like playing hours upon hours of an MMO will spoil Mass Effect for me. Always good to give MMOs a few months to iron out the initial bugs anyway.

o_0 ME3 doesn't come out until like March. Play this to pass the time until then.

So I made an Inquisitor and went Assassin. Real cool, I guess it has some tank stuff? I can't figure it out. Am I supposed to let my companion tank stuff till he dies, then I move in? I'm level 11 and I don't have a taunt yet, I ran Black Talon and was instantly squished by almost everything until I started using my companion, which had to limit the party to 3 people.

I stealth around to get in close but bosses see me at regular (a mile away) pull range anyway, and trash stuff doesn't even really need to be tanked. The Sith warrior I was partied with was a beast and wouldn't die.

I'm hoping this is just an early game type thing, like in WoW the first couple instances are sloppy until people get abilities. But it was really weird.

Well, Black Talon is designed for 2 players. If you went in there solo, that's why you got squished.

Is there a way to keep key binds saved across multiple characters that I'm missing?

Don't like re binding everything every time I make a new char to play around with

The more I think about it, the more I really don't like the companion system. As others have noted, it turns every class into a pet class. But I don't want to be a pet class. I don't want to have to think about equipping other characters of different armor classes. I don't want to have to micromanage a pet/companion's cooldowns, stances and abilities. I don't want my pet sputtering out the same 5 canned phrases all the time. I don't want to think about leveling skills for other character besides my own.

At first the companions were just annoying because it breaks immersion to see everyone with identical companions, but even the mechanics of it are frustrating.

And you don't have to do any of that. Not to mention any grouping in the game doesn't use companions. They are mostly a tool for soloing and story purposes.

.

You may have chosen Assassin/Shadow, but it's not a tank at the start (Neither are Jedi Guardian/Sith Warrior or Bounty Hunter Powertech/Trooper Vanguard). No classes get their tanking stance until Level 14 and Taunt until 16. Black Talon (and Esseles) is currently supposedly balanced for 2 players and their companions w/o even having gained their AC yet - which means neither a Tank nor a Healer are strictly necessary. I've done Black Talon when it was balanced for 4 people with a party of 4 Sith Warriors. Trade aggro, use health packs. It can be done.

Similarly, the Healing capable classes only receive their weakest, most inefficient heal at level 10, and don't get a worthwhile heal until Level 12-14, which even then is pretty terrible until they start spec'ing into their healing tree.

Overall I really enjoyed Imperial side. I played IA until level 20 and found that for the most part, it was quite fun. The real shift came from playing a BH and seeing just how positive that guy is in the same situations; the IA is very cautious with the BH feeling like a doer.

Still impossible to see how the healing will stack up; all three classes worked fine at 20 at the same rate of pace.

Played a little. Level 14 Gunslinger now.

-It is a little wowy. Combat system is similiar and nothing ground breaking (there is no AA though... I think). Some quests give you a choice of how to resolve it. That's nice sometimes.
-voice acting and story elements are a nice touch. I'm afraid that it'd become a waste since most people would skip them the 2nd time around.
-light/dark choices are very random sometimes. As are the companion affections. Personally, I find companion affections kinda annoying. I'm just RPing and i get negative affection? I don't know what affection gives, but seeing a -1 hurts and I dont want to micromanage that shit in an MMO.
-Areas/Worlds (Ord Mantell and Coruscant) feel very linear. It's a bunch of corridors on Coruscant and even a bunch of corridors in Ord Mantell (a ground based planet - rather than city). Now I understand that SWars is many interconnected planets, it has to be like this, but I don't like the feeling. There is very little exploration.
-I get ~250ms in SWars, ~170ms in WoW. PvP is very stuttery at times (do not know if its my ping or something else).

TL;DR. SWTOR feels very much like a single player game with a chatbox. From the questing, to the linear corridor "levels" (zones) the small size and lack of exploration make each section feel simply like another level rather than an interconnected world/universe.

Are there any tips for latency? My friends has ping to German server like 50-80 and mine spikes 400-5000 ...
And thats fault of my connection for sure.

OMG! I'm dying here... I'm playing as Jedi Knight and i'm meeting the Jedi Council in its chambers. Satele Shan walks in. She's maybe 20cm tall... what a bug! Looks really hilarious

I remember seeing somewhere that there was a Euro GAF Empire guild somewhere? Is that still about because I'd like to join it if so.

PM me your SWTOR user name so that i know to accept you. I'm Empyrus at swtor.com

Either the engine is absolutely awful or I am doing something seriously wrong with mny graphics settings! Or is my CPU just too old for this game?

I'm running an overclocked e6550 and a GTX460. I can run Skyrim better than this game and it looks miles better.

The site doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment so i'll sort it later, sent you a PM though.

All right, accepting you once the site works... and once i'm taking a break from SWTOR :p

Male Jedi Knight voice doesn't feel very good... oh the acting's all right but i don't like the voice. Story isn't that interesting... but it's Jedi Knight! I wonder when i get the light saber, the biggest issue with the Force user classes is that it takes forever to get a light saber.

As much as I am quite enjoying this, the graphics really are quite hideous at times. An example would be when I got my starship and went to Tatooine, boy what a terrible texture for the planet! :O
The character textures annoy me in cutscenes as well, so big and ugly, and that pop in when it first loads o_O.

Those aside, still having a good time I think.

Ah never felt like this in a long time. The feeling of good ol' MMO addiction.

Waking up 5am in the morning just to play.

JK quests are not as bad people make them but they're rather cliched. Dark/Light side choices are fun though, hard to resist dark side's tempation while trying to be light sider.

So without going into too much detail, I played maybe two hours of Sith stuff and came off... Pleased. I wasn't overly impressed where I would pay monthly and get on launch, but it had some cool stuff about it, ran well enough, and the universe seems really fleshed out that I'd consider playing off and on. The early stuff in MMOs always get me, as it seems nothing more than grunt work, but I'd like to see where it leads later on in the game. It did feel like Kotor to me from what I played (to an extent).

I'd definitely play this over WoW any day, but I'm not really an MMO guy as it stands. Still doesn't top the overall feel of SMT Imagine for me, or the density of EVE.

We'll see where it goes from here, but in the end, not something I would invest large amounts of time into...
