Please don't make me watch G4... They'll put it up on their own site, right?
Eventually, yes. Not even sure if it's new content. Someone should sit through the pain just so the rest of us can get some information ;)

Picture: Political unrest = NPCs demonstrating/riots?

Edit: Quote from PC Gamer UK:
"if BW had sacrificed the story driven aspect of the game;there wouldnt be much reason to play as other MMOs have better combat models and more impressive worlds"
Ouch...

Wow. That's exactly the opposite reaction of everyone else who's played the game.

They describe it quite narrowly, so their impression is understandable.

Interesting quote:

Some of the quests are interesting, some are straightforward, and most of them feel very BioWare. It's a lot like playing KotOR in co-op - not like playing a specially made co-op version of the game, just literaly another player there in the singleplayer story.

I didn't know about this:

''Even if you play alone, your character always has company. You acquire companion characters throughout the game, your first after just a few levels, and you always have one with you then on. [...] The only problem with companions is that you can only have four people in a group, and they count. So when Andy, John and I did manage to team up, both of them had to give up their companions to do so.''

Yea companions can be used in groups but it seems like player character will always be a better choice with much more options and power. They are still working on seeing if they will allow companions to fill in player slots in the flashpoints and stuff like that.

A lot of people around the office are excited to play it. Are there any plans coming together for a public beta?

Greg Zeschuk: You’ll have to watch our website and see. At this point we’re still in more of a closed beta period. We’re definitely making great progress on it. The feedback’s been great. There’s always lots to do, but it’s really really shaping up. Before too long you guys will get a little crack at it. Keep an eye out for that.

*clears schedule*

Im expecting Beta to open up the the larger masses right after E3. Then they get a good 3-5 months of beta before launch

I don't know. Most larger MMO's beta period these days are a few weeks leading up to launch.

They've already promised us lots of information in May. Could be on the beta - if they're doing it in phases. I doubt they'll announce an open beta at E3. That event is more suited for release dates and reveal trailers (I'm certain they'll have both).

I am pumped for beta, but at the same time I don't know if I will play it because I don't want to ruin the storyline for myself before launch, know what I am saying? :)

That's actually a good point. I might roll Dark Side in the beta just to keep the Light Side fresh.

Yeah, I plan on rolling character in classes I don't plan on playing at first in the real game. Maybe Bounty Hunter?

Well the open betas that they will try to sell us with preorders of course. But the larger closed betas usually got on for a few months at least.

Some guilds are getting dangerously close to that 500 member limit. Korriban's Guard has 456 members with a distribution of 154 (34%) Sith Warriors and 36 Imperial Agents (8%). Took some time to load up their roster!

I'm wondering if BioWare will reveal guild perks when phase 2 launches. So far I can't think of a single benefit to being part of a guild that big!

I wonder how EA will be handling digital preorders. I wouldn't mind buying it from them directly instead of through Steam because I like MMOs being separate from Steam, but if they're going to try to make us use EA Download Manager they can fuck right off.

It seems the quote was directed at the interviewers at Game Informer and not the readers:
StephenReid said:
In his reply, when he said 'you guys will get a little crack at it', Greg was specifically referring to Game Informer themselves. That's not immediately obvious from the transcript here, but I have confirmed this with Greg himself. It's not a reference to the community as a whole, it was a reference to the 'people around the office', and a direct response to that portion of the question. (And to be clear, Greg was answering this question before Game Informer had been invited to their hands-on play session - hence the future tense of his response.)
So we're back to status quo:
StephenReid said:

Greg Zeschuk: You’ll have to watch our website and see.

That's all we have to say about any future iterations of Game Testing right now.

It has a sub and I swear I've read it is $15.

SWG pushed the standard for MMO monthly subs to $15 a month almost 8 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to bump it up again with SWTOR.

I don't think they would get away with charging more than the standard monthly fee. Anything more than $15 would just upset people and drive them away.

As for a lifetime subscription, I would be all up for that but I doubt EA would do it.

From a Q&A section at PAX East 2011:
James Ohlen said:
We used to say developers had a choice, if you're going to go after World of Warcraft, you're going to need a subscription based game where you have to spend $15 a month to play it. Then yes, you are going to have to put in a lot of money.

Since my main and two planned alts are going to be empire, if I ever end up in a beta for this, I'll probably go with a dark Jedi Knight Miraluka to get a taste of the dark side.

Hopefully "BlindJerk" isn't already taken.

G4TV put up their clip from yesterday's show. It turns out it was nothing more than a "what we know" compilation. And even on that front it leaves a lot to be desired :/ I guess it's slightly informative for people unfamiliar with the game, but the regulars in this thread will find no new information in the clip!

Don't forget the E3 announcement hidden in the Fan Friday update. Earlier today, PAX East 2011 was the only event featuring on their list. Not that there was ever any doubt about SWTOR at E3, but the confirmation makes it sound like it will be something big.

I've only started following this game for about three months now and I'm already starting to go slightly insane waiting for it. I can only imagine how the people that have been waiting for it for over four years are starting to get a lil antsy.

Feed me a release date at E3, Bioware.

Has it been 4 years since it was first annouced?

I actually remember intially getting pissed off when BioWare said it was going to be an MMO. XD

I think it's been 2 years since we first saw anything about it. No idea when it was originally announced.

So it looks like we'll be hearing some gravely Snake voices in the Old Republic.

From David Hayter's Twitter:

So, I got confirmation today... That I could possibly reveal the game... And the character... I've been working on for the past year.

Someone guessed Star Wars MMO and he shortly responded:

Finally, One of you @mentioned the right game, at least. Sincerely, David "Still teasing y'all through the weekend" Hayter

Then he made two comments that essentially confirmed it (emphasis added):

Okay, all I can hint about the new game, is -- It's not my (M)ainstream (M)ethod of (O)peration. DH

Look, No one had to force me to do the new game character. I was -- (J)ust (E)xcited to (D)o (I)t. DH

That fits with a Voice Cast list that leaked out last year. Was alot of big names on it doing cameos etc

German magazine Buffed.de had a hands-on with the game and their write up contained some new information on PvP, companions and the Bounty Hunter.

It does have a few translation errors:
First off the article mentions a new Warzone called "The Voidstar".
There is a reference to a possible "conquest mode" whatever that might be. Let the speculation begin.

Here are some notes from an official poster on the forum of the site:

- The playing session took place in Austin at the end of March.
- The reviewer was able to play two days and reached with his Bounty Hunter lvl15.
- He played on Nal Hutta and Dramund Kaas
- In his playing time he was quite happy about the game.

Now some info which are new in my opinion. (meaning the posters opinion) But I'm not completely sure. So I am sorry if there are old things included.

general:

- An average player should took 200 hours to reach level 50
- The main story have different endings, who are depending on your decisions ("career or revenge")
- You can travel from Nal Hutta to Dramund Kaas via Shuttle or Flashpoint
- You get your personal spaceship at Dramund Kaas

- On Dramund Kaas there are "heroic" quest areas for groups
- the fighting is classic, but feels dynamic

NPC-companions:

- Mako is the first companion for BH and a Healer
- the droid PO-12 is the second companion for BH
- through the companion you are not forced the skill DD during leveling like in other MMOs

- companions have different stances (Heal, Damage etc..)
- you can configure which skills will be used by the companion
- it is also possible to activate companion skills by yourself

- companions "are nearly as strong as players
- companions can equip armor and weapons
- companions can learn skills at a trainer
- companions can sell loot from your bag

PVP

- Alderaan is a Domination Map - (not sure what this is?)
- an other battleground "could be" Capture the Flag

- There is a CC-immunity bar which grows by suffered CC, till you are completely CC-immune for a time period
- This bar is below the health bar and the enemy can also see it
- Tanks are useful in PVP, because they can absorb 50% damage on a party member

- There are PVP-honor guards
- you will not get equipment for PVP-honor guards, but you will be able "to influence the battle"

The CC implementation in PvP sounds cool!

That's the thing where you have to take over multiple spots on the map. They've showcased this before.

Yeah, I think the concept comes from Unreal Tournament(?).

No PvP equipment from honor guards. Does that mean there will be no pvp armor in the game?
Valor points can most likely be traded for equipment. They haven't talked much about it yet. PvP equipment has been confirmed.
