Kinda getting to the point where I'm not sure what I have left to do aside from the Main Quest now, all factions are done, most Companion missions are done now, a lot of side quests are completed from what I can see (the Mantis one was pretty cool) and yea 50 Hours in and kinda at a loss now

I think they should’ve done more with procedural generation, that’s their thing, been doing it for decades.
The colonized planets are in desperate need of small and mid size towns. Could’ve done it like in No Man’s Sky with the settlements.

Hopefully there will be a group that keeps on working on the game, adding more hand-crafted blocks and build on the procedural generation tools. If they don’t have the devs to do it when they move over to The Elder Scrolls they should instantly hire people to do it. Very important imo. The way it’s structured it’s a game you can keep on playing for a looong time.

Btw, I understand their thinking now when it comes to generated content. Once you start over it kinda resets like a roguelike dungeon, the big stuff is the same but it’s not nearly as samey on future playthroughs as when you play Skyrim for example. Once it opens up it feels oddly fresh for those who like the gameplay loop outside of the main quest.
NG+ can be interesting too but wasn’t for me though, I started fresh instead. I did the pirate thing on the first playthrough, doing a positive diplomatic choir boy settler this time, we’ll see how that goes… already felt the urge to sneak and steal to not have to pay up in one quest lol

I haven't played game to completion, am mostly ok with scanning activity on surface. Apart from that, I go into locations on planets mainly to grind my character, so it works out.

Adding settlements on planet surface I presume will take them another couple of years of development. They definitely can do it, it's just hell lot more work on top of what they have already made.

If this were treated as GAAS title, it could be possible. But I dunno what's their plan here.

I have to say, the work id put into the FPS mechanics is amazing. This game is a legit super FPS in and of itself.
I wonder if ID worked with them again like they did for Fallout 4/76?

Also wtf game, I'm on the mission "High Price to Pay" and
They killed off Sarah! She was my wife ffs! But its weird that she was the only one to die, I've done all but Andrejas companion mission so I found this to be really weird so does she always die or could I have saved her?

Apparently id put together their FPS dynamics, and it shows.
Not to shabby to be able to call on them to help out.

Moderated wildly
I've got Sam Coes friendship mission to do. Need this guyt to hurry up. Still not met Vanessa yet. I'll get crimson Fleet done and hopefully Sam Coes mission today then I can crack on with the main story.

Been an absolute blast. Depending on what happens with the story and new game plus I may shelve my character Jonah until significant patches or DLC approaches. There's so many games and so little time.

This might be fake, broken, borked HDR but I am sticking with it.

In the area right after you’ve finished making your character you see lights and stuff here. With HDR these are very bright, like in real life, really standing out in a good way. With SDR they are way dimmer, not realistic. So there IS some good in this HDR implementation.

With the right black level and black adjust settings on the TV it looks great.

So I finally found something I dislike about this game.

It's fucking Clara Sarah Connor Morgan. See, this is Bethesda game. And in Bethesda games, I like to Role Play. So I am constantly talking my way out of situations, stealing stuff on people and visiting their home when they are not there. That's what I do.

And that insufferable woman is constantly giving her opinion about what I am doing. Well excuse me, but I don't give a fuck about your opinion. Let me enjoy my time already !

So I am thinking either of two solutions :
- becoming a complete jerk towards her
- dumping her in a remote planet with nothing on it
Might do both things.

I suppose I need her to do the Constellation quests though.

Question....

How do i quickly switch from having a weapon to unarmed so that I can punch? My character is specialised in boxing. I have the cutter equipped but how do I switch to just melee only?

I think holding X do that (on Xbox pad).

I've been doing quests quests quests, but I never really tried to explore random planets on my own, largely because it seems like a hassle. You guys think I'm missing out on cool stuff?

If you mean from a narrative perspective then not really, you mostly go there for random dungeon loot / credits / XP and surveying (which is also XP and credits in the end).

And even surveying doesn’t really require the random outposts / caves once you’ve upgraded the science skills.

I’m thinking they already have most mechanics in place as it is with NPCs wandering about and merchants selling things and ships coming in for landing etc. A peaceful pirate base is essentially a small settlement, if they make them bigger it would be a small city.

Ah okay thanks. Main thing I don't wanna do is miss out on any quests as much as I can, and I thought maybe you'd stumble on something on a random planet while exploring. If it's just some loot that can be found I can live without it.

If you…
…choose to defend the Eye you can save Sarah. That’s what I did, wasn’t planned tbh, just thought the Hunter fight was difficult so I ran away. But I lost Barrett instead.

The more I play this, the more I believe that Bethesda designer have no clue what they're doing.

Red Mile. I just 'run' it. And by run I mean boost packed all the way there and back. I haven't see na single creature or enemy. Not a single shoot was fired. Just smooth boost pack sailing all the way.

Why not take away boost pack from the player for the duration of the run? Or give player a basic boost pack that won't allow to cheese this section? Ehhhh, Bethesda...

There was so much astroturf FUD surrounding this game for a while, and I'm happy to see that basically none of it materialized in the end. The game is a great experience overall.

With that said, wish it was more seamless and "elegant" in its execution. I get how complicated the logistics of wonderfully persistent backbone of Starfield is, but the loading still bums me out a bit, feels almost clumsy.

Maybe it's just me but like with BG3, I put Starfield aside for now to let it cook with for the next incoming updates.

I don’t think it happens. There are quite a few sidequests on random planets but usually you receive those from orbit (e.g. a radio contact).

I suppose if they go that route, it will easily take that long.

First, it will need environmental story telling and attention to detail. Then it will need to have system generated quests as well. Else it will feel very one note.

You will need a system that can generate 300-500 believable settlements at least, that are consistent with planet you landed on.

Even if you want them to be very minimalistic, 2 yrs is very conservative. Simply cause it's Bethesda and they have experience in making this stuff.

RAM timings work wonder in this title. I have a crappy old ryzen 2700x yet nearly get 40+ FPS in new atlantis. considering some fps reports from online where 5600x 5800x folks drop to 40s and 45s in this city, I'm quite surprised.

Considering also xbox sx barely holds 30 FPS, I expected legit <30 FPS drops with my CPU. Very surprised with the performance. practically a locked 60 in indoor scenes as long as I'm not gpu bound

My 3070 also handles fairly fine at 4K/DLSS performance, getting around 40 to 60 fps depending on the region while still looking crisp (i did some visual tests and it looks better than native 1440p)

but I recorded the video at 1440p output because 3070 became super GPU bound at 4k dlss perf in this location (around 36-42 FPS)

the game looks absolutely gorgeous at 4k/output.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
You need to unequip your weapon - from menu I guess, maybe there is a way to hotkey it.

the d-pad quick select can be used to select / de-select things if I'm not mistaken.

I wonder if ID worked with them again like they did for Fallout 4/76?

It's always
the person you have the highest affinity with in the place you didn't go to, eg if you went to the eye then the person in the lodge you have the most affinity will have died.

Are you able to sell resources directly from your outpost?

Or do i have to load them into my ship and sell?

To those just starting out, I strongly recommend making your own saves before some of the big decisions. I wish I had done that, the auto saves are too quickly overwritten.

Now I'm stuck with the cowboy. :messenger_loudly_crying:

You can press Y on weapons to put them on the d-pad, just like other items. I dont know about fists, if there is an icon for that in inventory.

I am on Kreet now, I just unlocked boost pack training via the skills. But how to use it? I googled it and it says press jump twice, which makes sense. But doesn't work?

Fair enough I don’t know what needs to be done. Hoping they at least consider it for a 2.0 update.

This has already overtaken BG3 as my most played game this year.

I just wish more developers (or any developers outside of the real eurojank ones like Piranha Bytes) made games like this as you can get completely lost in Bethesda games despite there objectively being a million things wrong with every game they have ever made. Imagine if they had actual competition and had to up their game.

I did it by stealth the whole way. Took them all out from a distance.
I think it also matters how far along you are in your own personal development by the time you get to the Red Mile. If you already have mega bullets, extreme jet pack etc, it makes it easier. If you do it pretty early on in hard mode, if you don't have a heap of med kits then it can be a blood bath.

You did all that in 50 hours? Wow.....I'm at 135 and I just finished all the factions and only two companion quests.

30 hours in and man, this game just continues to blow me away. It's my GOTY, and a top 10 game of all-time for me.

And it's so damn gorgeous:

Strolled outside of the big city, I know it was a concern that the map was tiled and all that but I think it’s pretty cool that the city can be seen far out and you still see spaceships go in and out.

Oh and I finally started building my first base, after 90 hours. Can already see me spending far too much time on this, the No Man’s Sky vibes are kicking in!

Yeah I find myself just taking screenshots from time to time because the game really has that "feel" to it visually from time to time that you just sit back and look at the screen instead of wanting to play further in that moment.

Just finished the campaign. Very satisfying title. Thank you Todd Howard

Finally after almost 80 hours started messing with the outpost mechanics. Pretty fun and interesting really, though at first it's a little confusing as far as creating extractors/storage/power/linking, but it started to make sense pretty quick. So I built an outpost on a moon extracting aluminum first, but then quickly realized I needed iron as well for some basic things, so jumped to the other side of the same moon and set up an iron facility and now both of those are linked. Now I have those two producing plus a little factory making adaptive frames for whatever reason and I began building my first little habitable zone within the aluminum base because it's a prettier area. It can be a bit frustrating realizing you need random X part, but it does seem after a while you could have everything rolling in that you wanted and build away. Pretty cool. (y) I
