I'm just glad they don't store your credit card, or I would have made tons of impulse purchases. As it is I've only picked up Mosby's Confederacy and Defense Grid.

Contemplating some others, but that would force me to go get my wallet. Thank you Steam!

Who paid you to grab Dr. Pavel?
Quick question, for the Civ IV complete pack, how does the launching work? Is it just one launch or are the expansion packs separated?

So I'm thinking about Orange Box heavily but has there been any sales in the past on the Episodes Pack for HL since I have yet to beat HL2 and really want Portal and Team Fortress 2.

On the Episodes themselves? No, I don't believe so. Not recently at least. You never have to feel bad about purchasing Orange Box.

Oh, and for anyone who hasn't played Painkiller: DO IT NOW!

I've played through it like 10 times the last few years and it never gets old. :lol

Painkiller runs in the Doom -> Serious Sam vein. Buy it.

So I need some advice. I am trying to buy all of the games on Steam during this sale that I would regret not buying afterwards. What do you think of the following:

Painkiller Gold
Runaway, A Road Adventure
Pacific Storm
ARMA
X2- The Threat
Aquaria
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Crazy Machines pack
Spore

Also, I am trying to decide if I should spend $50 on those games (the best of those that add up to $50) or just not buy any of those and purchase Mirrors Edge when it comes out on Steam in a couple of weeks.

Your advice please!

Alan

De-sold. I've never been so bored than when trying to play through Serious Sam Gold.

I'm proud of myself. I was gonna spend like $200+ then i kept trimming the list until I finally decided fuck it...I have such a huge backlog already..I'd rather spend the money and build a new pc.. fucking valve...I'll keep my money.....for now.:lol

Fuck I found more money that I could spend and picked up the Prince of Persia pack. If nothing else I'll enjoy the original trilogy as I've been wanting to go through that again for awhile. I'm not finding the new game really all that bad but it definitely holds your hand in a lot of places but omg so pretty.

Warrior Within is fucking terrible oh my god.

I knew about the whole angst thing going in, but I figured it would still at least be a decent game. What the fuck is with this slutty bitch with twin swords argh. HATRED. SEETHING HATRED.

Sands of Time is still the coolios, though. Hope Two Thrones is better than Warrior Within.

To be honest I never really played the original trilogy for the story/settings so the whole angst thing doesn't quite bother me much although I will definitely concede that I'd much rather have the Sands of Time art style. In any case all three games play pretty well so that's a plus.

Defense Grid is a lot of fun, a pretty standard TD so far. I thought Spore was atrocious.

Unreal Tournament 3 worth it?

For $10, I'd say so.

Prior to playing UT3, I was only a casual fan of previous UT games, jumping online from time to time around the release of each game. When I picked up UT3 around release, I had a good time with it. It felt like UT with a new coat of paint to me- I didn't notice anything that was bad about it compared to previous UT games, but like I said, I was only a casual fan.

I got 28 hours out of the game (if you include the time I played the demo), and I spent $50, so I'd say I got my money's worth, even though the community was pretty small. Mainly played Deathmatch games, so I couldn't tell you how the other modes felt.

If the online still has enough people around to play proper matches, I'd say go for it, assuming you already don't own something like Team Fortress 2 to scratch the multiplayer itch.

If you launch from Civ4, you get Civ4 without the BTS changes. If you launch Civ4: BTS, you get that. Warlords is ... kind of useless, unless you care about scenarios. BTS includes all of the changes that Warlords did.

I'm not talking about the story or art style. Thus far I've spent about 80% of the time fighting and 20% doing what I actually want to do in a Prince of Persia.

AND THAT STUPID WHORE. Why am I fighting her again. Why is it the exact same fight.

And why did they change the way counters worked from Sands of Time -> Warrior Within.

Worst sequel ever. ):

Today i picked up:

World in Conflict
World of Goo
Civilization 4
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Thats on top of the STALKER Clear SKy and PoP Two Thrones i picked up on the weekend (beat Two Thrones today, great game), and i will probably grab a few more before the sale ends.

Sorry, I totally misinterpreted what you said. Yeah I agree, there's way too much combat in that game and if I remember right the ratio of combat/exploration is a little better in the Two Thrones but I could be wrong.

It is. A lot of the combat can be cut almost entirely out too thanks to the speed kills...... and throwing people off roofs.

armed assault is pretty much my favourite game ever now. it's fantastic. not sure if you can apply the beta patches on the steam version though.. it's fine to play on 1.14 aswell, but the 1.15 beta patch improves quite a few things.

oh also no idea how big the american online community for it is. this is pretty important.

evlcookie

but ever so delicious
I wish valve would push more content to the 3FL servers for us aussies. Trying to download the games i have purchased is a pain in the ass.

Looks like i will need to use a bit of my download quota this month.

2 more days left untill it ends, must not purchase anything else!

I heard that it really is different than most shooters. That it is more about patience then continual action like a COD series. Have you found this to be the case? Also, do you think its worth it to get this when the sequel is coming this year?

That's absolutely the case. Arma is trying to simulate actual combat, not put you in an action movie.

Stop before you start insulting Doom. There's nothing worse than a thread full of pissed off FPS fans. But yeah, if you don't like any of those you probably wouldn't be interested in Painkiller either.

I hope this sale doesn't backfire. Some of these games are going to double and quadruple in price in a few days.

heh. I couldn't live without arma right now, but I'm sure you could. but definitely get arma2, whatever you do. hehe.

if you get it, check here for tons of community made stuff to download-- http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=files

a lot of great addons there. some not so great aswell of course.

Bought:
Company of Heroes: Gold
World of Goo
Aquaria (Even though I bought the non-steam version when it first came out)

I think that's enough for me.

LovingSteam said:
How do you think they pulled it off Sinatar? I am not used to that type of game so I really don't know.

Alan
If you're looking for a single player experience, then don't. They completely failed in this respect, even the expansion Queen's Gambit was weak. The multiplayer however is absolutely unmatched as both a co-op and vs other people game. Simply incredible.

It's got a learning curve like any game, of course. But if you're willing to put in the time the game can be extremely rewarding. And there are so many different combat "roles" you can specialise into by default simply by what weapons loadout you choose and what you prefer to do.

Last day. A single question in defence of myself and others buying too much due to this sale: how many games have you purchased for yourself this year?

Nexus - The Jupiter Incident
Dark Messiah Might and Magic
Alpha Prime
Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization
Dawn of War - Platinum Edition
Trackmania United Forever

Does anyone know if you can skip specific sections of Spore? Not just hop to the space bit, but play the first two stages, and then skip the so-shallow-I-cannot-imagine-how-someone-thought-this-would-be-fun* third and fourth stages.

*especially-if-you-consider-replaying-the-game-at-which-point-it-is-kind-of-hard-not-to-get-annoyed-that-Maxis-did-not-at-least-merge-the-two-sections-together**

i'm torn on whether to buy this or wait on arma 2. their desire to make the sequel multiplatform certainly doesn't bode well for a game as...well...pc as arma.

Nothing on the sale was worth it to me other then the ID pack because I bought almost everything in the past

Can someone gift me Bejeweled Deluxe for $1? I was going to get the STALKER games, but I can get those in the future. I'm just pissed off that I can't buy anything on my account because it was locked (Valve's problem). I was lucky enough to get it working ONCE, but that's it.

Please add me on Steam: yyzedd

Heh. Doubt this will make any difference whatsoever for the PC release. At least they made a better in-game interface and menu system for the game now.

Maybe I was the only person to enjoy the xbox operation flashpoint also hehe

Joseph, did you enjoy Spore? I am trying to decide between that and ArmA before the sale ends.

it's okay, the main course is the multiplayer though.
Yeah, the American campaign had its very highs and very lows and the Panzer campaign was kind of a snore. So far the Brit campaign seems very promising though.
