Sunset Overdrive: “no plans for a PC version right now,” says developer

Is this a joke? You guys say that it's good that Microsoft is releasing all their exclusives to Pc. That's a fucking joke, then what is the point In buying an Xbox One? If all their exclusives come to pc then their console is absolute. What I think and I think patcher is right, is that Microsoft is moving away from consoles. Since Pc gamers are use to waiting for AAA games, why should they buy a Xbox?

Of course it's good, it means that people with a competent PC don't have to buy an Xbox One to play games they want to play.

Who, exactly loses out?

If they didn't want people to speculate especially with the ports of exclusive xbox games to pc, they should have said they don't respond to rumors.

That is a gross underestimation of what people are capable of. If they say "no comment", people would read that as "If they aren't commenting on it, it must be true". If they say "No. It's not happening", people will quote what capcom said about DR3. Confirmation bias will always find a way.

This is the most popular sunset overdrive thread in weeks. So is it the game suddenly really awesome to so many people because it might be on PC? Or was it always a cool game with everyone and they just never wanted an X1 for?

It's the curse of the Xbox console. People will always think every exclusive will come to PC. Someone should do a study.

The latter for me. I love Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank games and Sunset Overdrive looks damn fun aswell. But it's still not worth the box I need to play this game. So a PC version would not only save me money but also get me to actually buy this game at all.

Well yeah, that's the entire point. No need to waste money for another plastic box just to play one game.

How many Sony exclusive devs are really ambiguous in interviews about a PC port?
Not sure how someone saying "we have not plans to do this right now" is "ambiguous" at all. Pretty clear cut to me. But people will make any excuse to port beg an xbox exclusive. Funny how a console that gets shat on so much here seems to constantly have games that people want on their platforms. Funny how that works...

Yeah, this is why I don't understand why journalists bother asking the question in the first place. They're always going to give the PR answer of "No plans." They're not going to suddenly tell some random game news site that they're making another version of the game. It just comes across as a filler question to be honest.

I'm pretty sure that the ire directed at Xbone is directed at the console itself, not the games.

This basically sounds like the confirmation of a PC version, but it's Insomniac so who knows.

The game I am really wondering about is D4 though... Is it MS published?

Arent many people worried and posting on npd threads that the market is contracting and dont expect ps4 to pass the 100 million mark or xbox to only reach 40-50 and that the wii u is dead? Maybe from that perspective is healthy that console exclusives stay that way and that there is a real incentive to buy them. I also get the argument about more people being able to play said exclusives.

I don't think console exclusives releasing on PC have much of an affect. Console only gamers stay on console because for them the pros of console gaming are better than some of the headaches we as PC gamers will(at times)deal with.

The only people that care about their exclusives not staying exclusives are corporate slaves and mindless drones. People that are brainwashed and feel their favorite company actually give a damn about anything other than what is in their wallet.

Exclusivity =/= more hardware sales. If it did than the Wii U would be selling much more.

For me from all the footage i've seen so far it just seems way too slow and the aiming looks bad because you can't do movement plus aiming as well on a console.

120fps / higher resolutions / good AA and way better controls would do wonders with this game.

This is the kind of attitude that puts some people off from wanting to play the game on PC at all. This "well the PC version would automatically be the best version and I already have a gaming PC so I don't see why they don't just release it on Steam!" I understand why Hoo-Doo said:

Because you want a console, not a PC.

A lot of people actually prefer them. Yeah, I know, it's shocking.

now.

I think nintendo games look like fun. I haven't played a nintendo game in years I don't think (own a wii). If nintendo games started showing up on steam my interests would increase. I also don't like FFXIII, well from the looks and the sound of that game. I'm a bit interested in Lightning Returns, and I might get FFXIII and FFXIII-2 just because (steam sale most likely). The thing about gaming on PC is it's cheap, the pc is a big warehouse of games in storage, and it's one platform that is always backwards compatible unless microsoft have introduce compatibility issues with a new OS before ironing it out with updates. Not having to buy the Wii, WiiU, Play Lighting Returns on a old console, and maybe Sunset Overdrive on a console I don't want to buy would be nice if it happened.

I didn't buy the Dead Rising 3 game, the Alan Wake games, I'm not interested in Ryse, and whatever else came over to PC. The only reason I would get SO is because it's by Insomniac, and I'm a fan.

I should have waited to buy GTA5, happy that I waited to buy TLoU. I'm happy more devs and Japan devs are looking at PC, and the reverse with Blizzard doing stuff on console. Playstation Now on every phone/tablet soon?

Interesting point. I guess it's the job of journalists to constantly probe for answers and report whatever response they get. You never know who will let something slip. So we only have ourselves to blame for discussing a non-answer to death :D

Maybe i'm misunderstanding this post but i fail to see how knowing the PC version would be the definitive version would put people off.

For me personally, I would definitely be upset if Sunset Overdrive came out on PC. Well, if it's within a year. If it's more than that, then I wouldn't care as much. I bought an Xbone for the exclusives and all of the exclusive titles I bought for the thing have gone to PC less than a year after release.

Can't you stamp that on any game? Sounds like this is a just a pc preference, rather than any game specific thing.

Umm Microsoft loses out? Tell me do you think people not buying their console is good? That is what you're saying. Also how was Dead Rising 3 and Ryse Son of Rome coming to Pc good for Microsoft? Since they aren't publishing it for Pc then they aren't getting money. They are getting money but it's so insignificant to the amount they would be getting if people bought those two games on Xbox because they are publishing.
You guys remember when Microsoft said that they are funding Dead Rising 3 100% yet they didn't publish it for PC. That was so bs, it was more like here, take this money and don't release on PlayStation.

True but that's why i put the control reason there, i would never play a game like this with a controller so even if was inclined to get a console for it, i wouldn't play it because i would not enjoy playing it with a pad.

I dont get why they keep sayng things lile that.

It keeps giving the impression its just a matter of time. lm glad they are being honest but it just doesnt help them(unless tjey completelly gave up pn Xbox and are transitioning bacl to PC.

I hope they keep porting their games regardless and rigth now that is what is expected.

Id be surprised if it didn't make it to the PC. "No plans" is the best PR response, and it definitely does not mean "no".

Game remind me more and more of DR3, and eventually made it to the PC.

I could give two fucks about a multi-billion dollar company losing out if it means the developers get the money they deserve and the consumers get the games on the platform they prefer.

Why do you care about Microsoft's bottom line?

I'm referring to conversations about games that devolve into comparisons between PC and consoles and show perceived superiority. You saying those things would do wonders for the game is the same as you saying "The game is ok but would be good if it had access to these options" when frankly it doesn't.

You can't use WiiU as a metric to judge anything. It's true that exclusivity doesn't guarantee more sales but not have exclusivity at all will guarantee the failure of a console.

It might be a good game, just not @ 30fps and with a controller.

Regardless of wether it gets a port or not, i will always consider the Xbone version a bad version of the game.

You sound like you're heavily invested in Microsoft's wellbeing. Boy, think about it. Why should I care if Microsoft loses out? I don't give a damn.
Seriously, they don't give a damn about you. Why should you care for them?

And I should care because...?

Because it is their funded game you planned to play? If they keep losing out, then there comes a point where the economics stop making sense for them and they stop making consoles and funding games. Then you don't get to play these games that you want to play. But sure, let us all clamor for our personal shortsighted desires.

"Exclusives" are just a way for platform holders to get you to buy their stuff, as a consumer you shouldn't defend them as if they were something of actual value to you.
Unless you're so hung up in console war crap you can't see this obvious fact.

Of course when a publisher (say Sony or Nintendo, or Microsoft) pays for the production of a game, i expect them to want it to be exclusive for their consoles, and i accept it, because that's how the world spins, but it's not actually convenient for me, so i'm not gonna cry if it were to go away for whatever reason.

The fuck. The more I read your posts the more I tend to think you actually can't work a controller or something. It's a third-person shooter game. I've played those on PC with a controller for ages. It's a superior control scheme for many.

Most TPS games have the exact same aiming mechanics as first person shooters automatically making mouse and keyboard the best way to play them.

But yeah i definitely don't know how to work a controller having extensively played every (worthwhile) console under the sun.

If it becomes non-viable as a business proposition then MS need to change that business proposition. Again, I don't see why I should care about whether MS are making money.

Consoles don't need exclusives to be successful. People didn't buy 10 million PS4's because of Knack, Killzone and Infamous. They bought them because of all the Ubisoft, Activision and EA multiplats. That is the software that sold the most and that is the software people are playing the most. Its fact.

Yikes. I'm guessing since I'm debating on the other side of the fence, this is directed towards me as well. Good to know! Very mature!

What does that even mean? They do have a viable business proposition. Exclusivity. Also nobody is asking you to care for them. I don't care either. But making demands without trying to understand ground realities is a conversation that goes nowhere.

The game doesnt look very good to me and I commented on the situation but is natural that people will show more intrest if it lpoks lile they are actually going to play it.

Righf now I could caea less aboit Bayonetta 2 since I know I wont play it but if it was on PC I would at least give it a look

Most people already dont see the point in getting a Xbox One. Maybe MS is staeting to see that there is no point in throwing money at tje X1 when they can fall back to PC.

What is the point?

Wait, this has been proven to not be true. You can play those games as long as the will to make them from fans and devs exist.

Games that people want can exist without the current console exclusive/publisher paradigm. Star Citizen, elite dangeorus, planetary annihilation, Megaman (cough cough), etc...

It is not selfish to want the game to be playable for many people, it is also not selfish to not want to be locked into a platform which limits your interaction with it through pay gates and internal monopoly.

Out of those the only one that has any merit in this discussion is Star Citizen because it's the most successfully crowd funded thing ever by a huge margin and it still doesn't even approach a traditional AA game, budget wise.

I don't think that point has been proven.
