The Manga is definitely the definitive version.
The first season or phantom blood. Anime or manga up to you, but anime is prefered imo. Then read part 3 to part 8.

2012 anime that covers Part 1 and Part 2 is what people will tell you to go for.
I agree with you personally, but it's hard to tell people to read Part 1. I did and don't regret it, but the anime is a lot more accessible. The anime is faithful enough that it's fine.

you probably should. The manga's art is amazing and would have terrible censors over many parts in the anime, which will ruin the experience..

one was more about past scars, like the MC's scar oh his chest and hanako's full scars and how she got them.

Can't he just stop at the end of the school festival for the Shizune route? Thats the real end of that route. The other stuff after it is optional. Its really a nothing route after the festival.
They were both very good routes, gotta say i wasn't expecting Lilly's route to turn out like it did.
I'm going to do the Emi route next

Well... It's going to be rough. I'm not going to lie. Even the h-scenes are pretty disapointing. Except one kinda.. you'll know when you get there. One thing i kinda like is how the MC acts in the route and the things he does.
