You don't need to play FeMC, it's just a really cool thing. Male MC is what matters. You don't need to replay as FeMC unless you particularly want to.

Its mostly a who's the culprit in crimes, but there is a murder mystery in the first episode and half way in the series. It's a collection of two parter side stories in a bigger plot that builds up.

Just did. You can FIX your PS2 pretty easily too. That's fine though. P3P is less frustrating in terms of gameplay, but you lose out on cinematics and such.
