TERA |OT| F2P starting in February! Were you expecting a parade?

Aw screw it, you've convinced me GAF. I just hope it's not how you sold me on SWTOR..... I still feel dirty from playing that massive steam pull of crap.

There's no way to just cancel, just shut off automatic renewal on their website, which doesn't work.

Looks like they took a page out of Xbox Live's playbook.

So I just started a lancer (Elin) in PVP server, god damn they kill so slow, I swear that my Mystic kill faster than my lancer. The new patch decreased the number of channels from 8 to 4, so I have to run miles away from everyone and spent 20 mins to finish one quest that only took 1 or 2 minute on my slayer/mystic back when there were 8 channels.

If there are one thing that force me to quit it got to be the channel nerf, I know competing with 5 other players for quest mobs is fun 10 years ago, but I do not have time for this anymore.

Why I'm hesitant to roll a lancer unless I have a leveling buddy with me.

Hmm, I only got to level 18 or so on my lancer but I found that single target he killed pretty quickly, but any AOE pulls were a huge pain. Given that huge portions of the game involve AOE packs I don't think that bodes well.

I tried the escort a fairy quest in the second zone and failed before I even got to the first fence on lancer. :( :( Obviously "lancer" and "died" don't go together if played well, but it's timed so I was trying to do decent DPS but just got wrecked on everything involving AOE.

Kind of wish you could move backwards while blocking, would make the aoe pulls quite a bit easier to line up. Maybe it gets better later on.

Me and my friend rolled a mystic and lancer alts and have been duoing it up.

With Diablo 3 coming out soon, I'm already planning to duo that with the only friend who could also possibly duo in Tera with me, but the subscription fees on the latter are a dissuading factor which means I'll just level up my slayer solo and see what happens.

I hadn't actually even heard about the game until like three days ago. Dunno how it flew under my radar like that. I wonder if they will ever release a five day trial or something.

Day 4 of my wait to play the game with my stupid Sub expired bug. And CS couldn't help me when I contacted them. I guess I just have to play the waiting game :(

Loving playing my Mystic alt. What's a mystic like in a group and what is their role?

On a not so related note I wish TERA's mystics could summon uber cute felynes like in the new Blade and Soul CBT3 trailer.

Also is there a BnS thread on GAF? I canny seem to find one :(

Hello fellow Mystic alt : D

Mystic in a group is: drop blue balls, drop red balls / heals, volley of curses. Mana recharge. Rinse, Repeat.

And, you are in the same boat with my friend, playing the waiting game. Hang in there!

Ugh. There are like, no guides that are actually useful for this game on the internet. =/ I want to craft weapons but there are no hints where I can obtain various things in game and the Tera Wiki is awful.

It's brand new in the west, give it some time.

I really need to get back into the game, got into the Secret World beta and have been goofing around with that, but I'm ready to go back to TERA already.

Well, GI has a short article about TERA impressions. I didnt read it until today, but i did notice something in one of the pictures Biessener posted:

Our guild name is in it!

One of my few complaints about the combat in the game is that a vast amount of the content itself is pretty much palette swaps throughout each zone, so you're fighting the same design of enemy only with some superficial differences

I'd like to think that future updates and expansions brings a new variety of BAMs that aren't featured anywhere else in the game

Gabe posted on monday more about TERA:

I’m playing a lot of Tera right now. This is always when I regret playing a beta as I push through all the content I already saw. I’m playing a Sorcerer now though which is a change and that takes some of the sting out of doing all the same quests again. As of last night I finally hit the point that I got to in the beta (around level 18).

I’ve had the opportunity to play some high level content at various events and I’m really excited to get to that point with my own character. Something about the combat in Tera just really scratches an itch for me. The combat in games like WoW or even SW:TOR is sort of like old naval warfare. Two big ships sidle up next to each other and just unload. At the end of the day you just have to hope you survive it. Tera is much more action oriented. Enemies give you tells before they attack and you need to move out of the way. You need to be actively blocking and dodging if you want to survive some of these fights. Spells and arrows have trajectories and if you move out of their path you don’t get hit! No more fireballs that track you as you dodge out of the way. So when I have some NPC telling me to go get ten serrated fangs, I’m actually excited because it means I get to go play.

And trust me you will be asked to collect ten thingamajigs. Tera is a strange case in that way. For all the innovation they’ve packed into the combat, the quest system is a classic MMO grind. In SW:TOR I wanted to complete quests to see the next part of my character’s story. The planet Taris was a ridiculously boring slog but I pushed through it because I loved the story. With Tera I don’t give two shits about the story, in fact I’m not even reading most of these quests. I click accept and then check the map to see where I need to go. I do the quests because I want to fight. I want to kill stuff and so a quest that tells me to kill stuff is actually exactly what I’m in the market for. In SW:TOR I put up with the gameplay so that I could get the story. In Tera I put up with the story so I can get the gameplay.

So how long will I stick with Tera? It’s hard to say. If you count my time spent in the beta I probably played SW:TOR for about 5 months before I got tired of it. Honestly in my opinion that’s a pretty good investment. I can’t say right now if I’ll still be playing Tera in September. At the very least I think it’s worth a purchase. Give it a month and see what you think.

So their Thrals are of no group interest?

Dropping balls was pretty much my group experience at level 12 in the noob island instance. I guess I wont get some good skills till I'm >20 Still I'm liking the combat of the mystic much more than I initially expected. I still need to get used to teleporting.

I'm keeping from flipping desks by watching my hubby play. I hope they sort it out soon or he will get too far ahead :p

^^

The thrall seems to annoy the group if there's a tank present. Without a tank, the thrall can (very rarely) interrupt or poke BAMs, and give your damage dealer a chance to breathe a little.

At higher levels, mystics are also supposed to keep the Auras up, to help with crits, etc.

Whats your main class? I alternate between Priest and Mystic. But I'm thinking to start a zerker or a lancer, cuz waiting for my friend to get his account sorted out.

Whoa. Just bought the digital edition outta instant gratification. Am I in for a treat? Is this MMO worth it? (I just bunt out from TOR BTW)

Anyone know where the teleporter is for this? I click on it to display on the map but it just gives me a "cannot be displayed on map" box.

This explains why 56 to 58 feels so grindy and 58 to 60 feels much easier.
Kind of weird they didn't change the curve for those last few levels.
Anyway, Japan will be getting Queen part. 1 update on 23rd of May, if someone is interested.

Oh thanks for all your info!!! :D

My main class is a lancer but its still pretty low from beta at 22. I started a new lancer to play with my hubby (soling with a lancer is kinda a pain) and the mystic is what I play when he can't play TERA.

Lancer is fuuuunnnn but it was pretty difficult to fight to dual orcans in the browny grassland area in arcadia. (my memory is horrid)

I just went from Lancer to Zerker and holy crap what a difference. I went from 1-12 in 2.5 hours compared to the 5-6 it took on the lancer. I regularly 1-2 shot mobs and wreck face. Does this continue throughout the rest of the game or do Zerkers fall off hard at some point?

Their dmg output should stay constant. At max level they seem really unpopular in party groups though, especially in one of the dungeons where you have to kill the last boss as fast as possible. Sorcerers, slayers and warriors seem to be the prefered damage dealers.

I'm guessing it's because zerkers do these charge-up hits and if you mess those up you lose a good portion of your damage. That and they are slightly slower at keeping up with the boss' movements with no backstab teleport or rush skills.

Ah, too bad about zerker unpopularity at high levels. Oh well. Still level 30 in any case so I will first need to clear those - and then D3 will be released which will add more variables to the equation. In any case, at the current pace, levelling a more "desired" char would not be too much trouble.

It gets rough later on with low mobility. Slayers are much better off later on.

I thought lancer was really fun :\

I kill things in like 7-10 seconds, and zerker takes me about as long
The higher you get, the more profound the difference becomes.

I've been following this thread ever since it was made and today I was finally convinced to get it. I'm already in the guild on dragonfall, so i hope to see some of you in game! Name is Shalt in game btw.

Anyone on VoT looking to make a new character soon? Need a partner for the Lancer I'm going to make.

I'll be hopefully hitting 60 later today on my zerker, then I plan to start a Mystic.

Leveling a lancer on VoT now if anyone wants to duo. Night shift UNITE.

Character name: Shachath

I'm going to sleep now but I'll friend on my alt when I get a chance, if not later today than probably over the weekend.

So has anyone levelled up two or more characters into higher characters (including any betas)?

If so, how grindy/mind-numbing is it? I got several characters to max level in WoW (in the respective expansions) but near the end it became almost phsysically painful to keep grinding out the same bloody quests. Of course Tera has the advantage of the awesome combat system, but still. The first time there is the wonder of new zones/new BAMs/instances etc.

How does the experience hold up on subsequent characters? ATM I am considering renewing for 1 month and then breaking for one due to some RL responsibilities and then possibily returning...

I don't know why people hate zerkers, they're pretty fun and kill mobs instantly.

100% loving my zerker. Most fun melee char I have ever played in an MMO. The attacks feel so powerful. I can see two problems: Big monsters (with enrage timers) that jump around a lot. The berserker might have trouble catching up, compared to other classes. Also, at level 30, I am starting to slowly see more monsters which can interrupt charging attacks.

Still, wonderful class and having lots of fun.

Not sure what my alt will be, considering slayer, lancer, sorc, warrior atm.

Level a zerker to the high 50's and you'll start to understand. Those fucking dungeon bosses become increasingly bullshit for zerker, a class which has a block which only absorbs 40% of the damage a lancer's block absorbs and which has no dodge skill of any kind until you reach 60 and you have to be in the middle of charging a skill to use that dodge and it has a 15 second cooldown whereas the other classes get a dodge skill at levels 1-10 which has a 3 second cooldown.

Zerkers are a class which gets essentially no stuns (Staggering Strike is a huge joke), whereas every other DPS class has at least 2. Zerkers are a class which requires all skills to charge up and your axe glows a neon red while you do it, making it the worst class by a mile and a few hundred yards for 1v1 PvP because you telegraph everything you want to do hours in advance of when it happens. Zerkers are the only class which no escape skill of any kind, which means from levels 1-58 if you get ganked it's best to just stand still so you can die faster and get back to questing more efficiently.

Being a zerker is by far the greatest suffering there is in Tera, which is why I'm glad I'm almost 60. I'll run endgame dungeons with my guild because they aren't fucking douchebags who will kick a zerker the moment he appears in the party, and then I'll get to leveling my alts. The Hardmode dungeons aren't fun for zerkers because of their lack of mobility, lack of real actual interrupts (Mocking Shout actually mocks the zerker who is dumb enough to try using it), lack of real actual stuns, and lack of real actual blocks.

So, uh. At 30 I am having lots of fun with mine. Being a 60 would you say it was "worth it" or should one cut ones losses now?!
