The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

In lieu of Ziran's excellent Nintendo-based thread, it's about time we take a look at SCEI and what they've got cooking in time for E3 this year. Let's discuss what's known and unknown, confirmed and unconfirmed, expected and unexpected, and most desired from E3 2008. I'll continue to add to the list as we get more rumors and confirmations.

SCE - Japan

Clap Hanz
While Clap Hanz is likely working on the next Everybody's Golf installments for PS3 and PSP, and perhaps a new Everybody's Tennis, I don't expect any announcements for E3.

Polyphony Digital
Obviously, they're hard at work on Gran Turismo 5, but will we see anything? Or just info on GT5 Prologue Spec. III?

Japan Studio
SIREN Blood Curse will be present; will we get official announcements for Loco Roco 2 and, maybe, a new title from Game Republic?

thumb463x_siren_leadin.jpg

Team ICO
i dunno lol

SCE - America

Incognito Entertainment
Next Warhawk booster pack is sure to make an appearance, if you ask me. Maybe their next full project?

Naughty Dog
IMO, an announcement for Uncharted 2 seems pretty likely at this point, but nothing more than that. Unless of course, they catch everyone by surprise with a new Jak & Daxter.

SCEA Bend
Please, please, please. Syphon Filter PS3. If not that, the only thing I'd expect them to be working on would be another PSP installment.

Sony Online Entertainment
The Agency and Free Realms for will be present at the show.

agency.jpg

SCEA San Diego
'09 installments of their sports franchises are pretty likely.

SCEA Santa Monica
Go, go, go, God of War III! Not yet confirmed, but I'm hoping.

Zipper Interactive
I don't expect them to announce the next SOCOM project until Confrontation is out the door, so we'll probably not see or hear anything from them this year.

SCE - Europe

BigBig Studios
Whether or not a new Pursuit Force is in the works, it's unlikely we'll hear from these guys at E3.

Evolution Studios
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift will be present; hopefully a more complete build than what we've seen in the past.

motorstorm-pacific_rift.jpg

Guerrilla Games
I don't know what we can expect from Killzone 2 at E3, particularly if Sony wants to give Resistance 2 a lot of attention. There's no reason the two can't co-exist peacefully on the show floor though, so my guess is its appearance will be limited to a brief mention and a new demo.

Killzone-2-Helghast-soldier-leaping-into-battle.aspx

SCEE London
What are they working on, now that Eight Days and The Getaway are canned? I don't think we'll find out until a Europe-specific event later in the year.

SCEE Cambridge
No clue. Anyone?

SCEE Liverpool
WipEout HD will surely be there. Will we hear from the next full WipEout project yet? Unlikely.

Third Party Developers

Insomniac Games
Resistance 2 will be one of the biggest titles under Sony's belt at E3 this year. Will we see anything else? Ratchet: Quest for Booty, finally?

182908-2-1.jpg

Level 5
Will White Knight Chronicles finally rear its gorgeous head? Or will we have to wait until there's an event in Japan later in the year?

white_knight_chronicles_1.jpg

Slant Six Games
SOCOM Confrontation is basically getting its big coming out party at E3. Alongside Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet it's a major part of Sony's fall lineup.

EatSleepPlay
Twisted Metal for PS3 is pretty much guaranteed to be their next project, but is it ready for show? It's likely to be a 2009 release so we may not see it until later in the year.

Q Games
Pixeljunk Eden will be there in playable form. Will we get a glimpse at Pixeljunk Dungeons?

pixeljunk3.jpg

Sucker Punch Productions
After the new info and screens from the other day, it's likely we'll see inFamous resurface at E3 this year, with a 2009 date.

infhead.jpg

Quantic Dream
They've been talking about Heavy Rain for some time now, so it's not canceled. Will we finally get solid details this year?

Media Molecule
LittleBigPlanet will be there in full force. It's one of Sony's biggest upcoming titles.

littlebigplanet.jpg

RockStar Games
So uh, there's still that exclusive project between RockStar and Sony, isn't there? Where the hell is it?

SQUARE-ENIX
FINAL FANTASY XIII is on every RPG-fan's mind, but will it be present at E3? Or is its resurfacing scheduled for SQUARE-ENIX's event later this summer in Japan? Anything else new for the PS3 at E3 this year from SE? Will we see a multi-platform Rapture revealed? Is Star Ocean: The Last Hope multi-platform or 360-exclusive? Who knows.

final-fantasy-xiii.jpg

KONAMI
Will KojiPro unveil it's next project? Will it be the much-anticipated ZONE OF THE ENDERS 3? Or will we see something new from them next? I think there's a pretty big chance of the team announcing or at least teasing something at E3 with a big reveal at TGS later in the year, but that might be just me being hopeful.

CAPCOM
Resident Evil 5 is the big one from Capcom this year. There have been rumours (nothing more than that, however) that Microsoft has been pushing for a timed-exclusivity deal. Let's look to Sony or CAPCOM to debunk that at E3.

resident_evil_5_race_issue.jpg

NAMCO-BANDAI
Eternal Sonata and Tekken 6 have a pretty big chance of being present, if you ask me. Namco-Bandai has, surprisingly, been largely irrelevant to the PS3 platform so far, but a lot has certainly been brewing over the last year and a half. Will there be a new Katamari? Has Nobi-Nobi Boy disappeared? Will Kratos really appear in Soul Calibur IV? Will the PS3 be left without its share of a Tales Of... title? This and more, hopefully at E3!

tekken6-screens.jpg

Home
Another E3, another year of seeing (but not using) Home. Will Sony finally solidify plans for the beta roll-out?

PlayStation_HOME_Pics_71.jpg

Other
Current speculation is that Sony will hold off on Firmware 2.40 until E3 time, but what else do you think we'll see from them? PSN Video Store? (yah?) Motion controller? (hah.) Price drop? (nah.)

I'm certainly most looking forward to Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet and Pixeljunk Eden. Other than that, give me a God of War III teaser, announcement for GT5 Prologue Spec. III and some more inFamous coverage and Sony will have made E3 2008 worthwhile, and that's not even considering the other potentially fantastic showings from Microsoft, Nintendo, and the various third parties.

Minna no Tennis 2 would be so fucking hot, I would buy it day one with no hesitation.

Of course, I would also buy Minna no Golf 6 on day one with no hesitation, forget waiting for the USA release.

I'd love to see a PS3 version of Pursuit Force

Hopefully we'll see some 3rd party stuff in addition to what you said. Heavy Rain is still out there somewhere, as is LA Noire and supposedly another Rockstar franchise. Last year, Phil Harrison announced an exclusivity deal with NCsoft that has amounted to dick so far.

Oh, and based on its presence on Playstation Blog, I wouldn't be surprised to see some Bioshock exclusive content on display (perhaps Rapture in HOME).

PS3 is looking set for a great show. The big question on my mind is if Sony will make any big play to jumpstart the PSP.

Maybe more glimpses of HOME's gamespaces
Heavy Rain
NCsoft MMORPG
Jak
Not expecting many JPN games, since they're probably gonna have a show dedicated to that after.

Oh, and my obligatory FFVIIR prediction.

I'd like to see them announce some exclusives, a way to cut back on the piracy(it is really hurting the PSP), some deals with big name studios and try to get some involvement from indie devs. If they could get some really unique, fun games from indie devs it would really help the PSP. There won't be any hardware changes imo, but a price drop on some peripherals would be nice.

I'd like to see them announce something huge for PSN, like adding a shit load of PSOne games.

I just hope they show something that I actually might want to buy. Sheesh, the PS3 is less than 2 years old, yet I already feel like Uncharted and MGS4 might be the only two games I ever buy for the sucker. Thank god for the BD player, which saves the system from being one of my worst purchases ever.

Old games:

Killzone 2
- Multiplayer details and a beta announcement.
LittleBigPlanet - New footage and release date. Maybe a beta.
Resistance 2 - Release date, maybe a beta announcement.
InFamous - More footage and hopefully a release window (I don't trust GI's "Spring 2009").
Wardevil - New footage and release window.
Heavy Rain - Something. Anything. My gosh it's been so long.
Socom: Confrontation - release date.
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift- new footage, details, and release date.
White Knight Chronicles - More footage and maybe a release date for Japan (though this is more likely to happen at TGS than E3)

New games:

God of War III - It's God of War III! :D
Uncharted 2 - As much as I'd love a J&D4, Uncharted 2 has all but been confirmed by ND to be in development. Good thing I love Uncharted almost as much as I love J&D! Of course, this game might not get announced until early next year, but a Holiday '09 release is inevitable.
Trico - This will more likely appear at TGS, but it's possible. I can guarantee you that it will be at one of these two shows, nonetheless.
Twisted Metal ps3 - We know it's what Jaffe is working on, but is it far enough along to show? He hinted at an '09 release, iirc.

Other possibilities:

Syphon Filter ps3
Zipper's next game - Socom 4? "large scale multiplayer game" leads me to believe it's something bigger. Why else have Slant Six make Confrontation.

The only reason I think we'll see these last two is because it's been so damn long since we've heard anything from either studio. Though not as long as it's been since we've heard from Team ICO. :(

And if both God of War III, Uncharted 2, AND Trico are announced, I think I'll die from cardiac arrest.

This is not a prediction but I'd like to see something about these games:

God of War 3
Final Fantasy XIII
Heavy Rain
Uncharted 2
Gran Turismo 5 (with damages otherwise don't show it RAWR!!:lol )
Team Ico next gen game
White Knight Chronicles
Rockstar PS3 exclusive

The of course I'm super excited about big multiplatforms like Prince of Persia, Resident Evil 5, Tomb Raider and so on.

I second the RPG sentiment. Also, I'd like to see a concrete PSN road plan. Not necessarily a list of release dates, but something like "two PSX classics per week" would be nice.

As far as game announcements go: GOD OF FUCKING WAR 3.

Whatever happened to the other MMO (besides the Agency) that SOE announced for PS3 (and PC) ?

Free Realms ?

edit:

R&C: Quest for Booty ? :D
Wardevil ?
Valkyria Chronicles and Yakuza 3 (for NA/EU release ?)
any NCSoft/Sony announcements ? (Aion for PS3 ? :D )

Shooters, racers, open world games.....what Playstation really needs a healthy dose of all things Japanese.

I don't even recognize the old girl anymore.

And I'm sick of seeing Little Big Planet. Quite a few of Sony's games have crossed a threshold where I just don't feel like I need yet another preview on them.

I guess if I was going to pick a game that I'm most excited to see, it's Afrika.

I fucking loved Pokemon Snap.

They need to do something about piracy, otherwise Dev's will just give up on it.

i predict they win... surprised?
I'm inclined to agree with you. It seems like they have loads of projects in the works that just need to be announced. Last year was devoted to mainly re-unveiling an old game (Killzone 2) as well as 1-2 new projects (InFamous), while this year we're having a guaranteed show stopper with God of War III and probably some other exciting projects as well (Trico would be huge, and Twisted Metal would be big as well).

There was a Minna no Tennis game? Man, I love Minna no Golf 5, I would totally buy a tennis version for the PS3. :lol

Twisted Metal for PS3 is being done by Eat Sleep Play. I'd like to see how that's coming along.

Yes, that would be great!

There was supposed to be a PS2 version of Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice in development. I thought it was supposed to come out at the same time as the PSP version (which was released in the US in February), but it seems to have disappeared off the radar.

The first half of the year has been healthy for PSP, but the release list for the remainder of the year is thinning out. I'd like to know what they have planned for PSP, too, though I can't think of much else that I want for PSP right now, since I've already bought several games for it over the last few months. Some new downloadable games would be nice. I'd like to see them bringing out some more PS1 classics for PS3 and PSP, and perhaps start rolling out classics from other systems, too.

PD will likely be showing Prologue spec 3 but GT5 facts will be given as information.

God of War 3: cg only? I would be surprised if they showed it being played
Resistance 2: brag about 60 player multiplayer like it isn't a decade old
LBP: new level walkthrough, no new features
Africa: will be given a small amount of coverage or isn't being localized.

Surprise:
WOHD or GT5PsIII launch on psn.

I expect ZERO surprises. We already know everything Sony's got in the oven, but...

New stuff I'd like to see is a new action adventure game (maybe, a zelda a like or a POP a like with good combat or another in the GoW, NG, DMC line that's NOT like those 3 something fresh), a new platformer (maybe ala sly 1 or 2 or J&D), and a new RPG that's actually fresh and new - not medieval not scifi, but something different and with new concepts and organization... OH, bring back the "cinematic" RPG!! Yes.

I want the Next Twisted Metal Black announced dammit! More Jrpgs would be nice but I guess they will save that stuff for Tokyo Game show.
