The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

I'm hoping we'll see:

God of War 3 (a given)
Team ICO’s game (most likely wait till TGS)
Zipper Interactive’s game (we've waited long enough)
New Jak game - not from Naughty Dog (only a matter of time)

Damn you guys need to just breathe and relax everything will be okay.

Do you think if Sony was light on epic things they would have already showed these before their
press conference.

I mean good lord look how awesome they both look.
The detail in Resistance and the animation in Infamous its just astounding but you all want
to be glum as piss today. I say brighten up!

You're talking to the guy who was IGN's UMD Movie review editor for half a year. Don't give me a speech on the PSP! :p

...but there is no way to officially fix UMD with the PSP.

If that is your sticking point you either go with CF or you have to wait for PSP2 and hope that Sony is at the point where they are willing to tell the retail outlets of the world to fuck off and go 100% digital distribution.

I've always been of the opinion that UMD is about as good as it gets for what Sony wanted to do with the PSP when they designed it.

If you're just complaining about having what sounds like one of the worst possible jobs at IGN, that is another issue. :D

Damn the lighting in inFamous is suh-weet.

But I have to reiterate; Resistance 2 has the ugliest trees I've seen yet in a PS3 game.

i seriously want to see a journalist ask SCE about the decision behind the FF13 debacle. somewhere along the line of

"WTF WERE YOU THINKING?"

and hopefully then proceed to ask if the head of Sony 3rd party relations has now been fired for complete lack of competence

I can't wait for the new, REAL Socom either. :D

Never played GTA huh? :p

Yeah, namely because it's not going to sell for shit on the Xbox.

Not only that, a smaller franchise like Vesperia needs as much sales as it can get.

Unlike a certain other game we lost that could easily stand on its own on one platform.

Exactly. Plus, we don't have many other RPGs. Eternal Sonata is a good start but they need more of those JRPGs. I can understand why some people are excited for Resistance 2. Some of those graphics look fantastic. But FPS is just not my favorite alley. JRPG is.

Don't be sad, your delivery was impeccable. Well played.

I don't think it's the will. It's the something else. Don't know what.
No, I think there has to be an element of will here that's completely missing. I mentioned this yesterday - When EA has simple stuff like Scrabble and Tetris up on the App Store for iPhone, DAY ONE, yet I believe has yet to offer anything for the PSP via the PSN Store, I have to assume that Sony just isn't inviting them to do so.

I honestly don't see the big deal. Not to come off all "defense force" or anything, but are 360 owners really that interested in Final Fantasy other than as a point scored in their war against Sony? And surely most 360 owners that were interested in Final Fantasy already bought a playstation.

Besides which Sqaure-Enix have always spread their IP's around all the platforms generously, so if you want to play Final Fantasy Verus Super Costume Changer Edition Tactics Extreme Mega Camp Girls that Might be Boys XVII, you'll probably need to buy a Playstation to do it anyway.

I'm still pretty excited about PS3 stuff...the FFXIII stuff didn't phase me...why is GAF so worked up about it?

Because it was unexpected mainly. It would have been 1000 times worse if it went 360 exclusive. :D

and damn Infamous looks nice in those gifs.

Interesting. Maybe some DRM hangover? Or can we fall back on the tried and trusted "Sony's a hardware company!"? Or perhaps, coordination and content will kick in once Home launches? I'm with you though - it is disappointing.

But I'm hoping that there'll be something in the conference that'll perk me up. I said earlier I was hoping for some "infrastructure" announcements. Fingers are still crossed.

2hrs 10mins left (countdown from Gamespot's E3 page).

QFT, JRPG's are my passion and my main genre.

Resistance 2 is nice, but I want more Valkyria Chronicles level stuff

Fugedabowtit and move on Sony obviously have. I can imagine Square held a bottomless hat to both MS and Sony and said keep throwing money in it till its full.

Sony probably would have thought its now time and cheaper to develop new brands and IPs as that is what they are good at traditionally. MS have the obviously have the funds and are willing to blow pots of cash on their competitors well used and sequelled to death ips to have them too.

I'm not sure its a good strategy as I'm not sure the GTA thing paid off, and die hard FF fans will not have bought a 360 in the first place.......

So it's 100% Console Wars (TM) related?

I guess that's why it didn't bother me. I can still get it on the console I intended do, and I can talk about it with friends who don't own that console.

Crazy.

But... they didn't "lose" it. It's not exclusive anymore, but who cares? You can still play it on your PS3. Get used to it, exclusives will start to disappear completely by the end of the generation, if not sooner. The only things that will set the consoles apart (well, PS3 and 360 at least) will be first party games.

Anyway, I want to see WKS most of all. I've been waiting way too long for more info on that game. I need more gameplay footage.

Whoa, a new GTA game on DS. That's kinda neat.

Guess they've bailed on the PSP then. :p

Rayne.S who predicted GTA DS a while ago also said GTA San Andreas Stories is in development for PSP. He also called Chrono Trigger DS before anyone.

Sony should care because even if they have excellent 1st party line up, there are people who'd always want to get the 3rd party stuff. It wouldn't be a problem if PS3 gets multi-platform game on the same day/date along with other console but most of the time this isn't the case. We always get it 1 year later and usually gimped. This should never happen if PS3 wants to compete on even level. Tell the 3rd party that if they want decent Japanese sale, they need to provide PS3 with the same day/date/quality release as other console.

Sony also needs to hire JRPG developer who can churn out good RPG fast like Mistwalker. I like what I've seen of WKS but we haven't seen anything for a while now.

Sony announced back at TGS05 that Cavia had an unnamed Action RPG in development, for the PS3. If I recall correctly Cavia are currently developing an Action RPG with Mistwalker(?) which is being published by AQ Interactive, right? Cry On, only announced for the Xbox 360 at the moment. Could this be a multiplatform title?
