The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

Guys, Cave will never make another arcade game or home console ports. They move development entirely to social and online games.

Sounds like they're only closing down the consumer division (responsible for console ports). It doesn't mention anything about the arcade division, which is a separate business. Hopefully they'll still make a shooting game every once in a while, and let Arika or 5pb publish it for the PS4/XBone.

This thread had a good run.
you play cave games too? you like all the good shit ^_^

---

regardless, I still have my doubts about SDOJ being the last shmup from CAVE.. and if it truly is, I'm sure the ones responsible for all the awesome games we've gotten from 1995+ will continue to create great STGs even if it's elsewhere.

and damn NCSX hasn't shipped my SDOJ yet. looks like I won't have it for the chicago shmupsmeet today :(

There's a Chicago shmupsmeet today? I'm in Naperthrille, I feel left out :(

There's a post in the news thread that what's referred to as Consumer is console/arcade. So if the report is accurate, it does appear to be over.

But like Boss said in that thread, they made a lot of wonderful games, many of which I've barely scratched the surface. Sad to see it end but there's a lot of play left, including this afternoon when I pop in SDOJ. :)

invites don't go out ya dangus! it's setup by and for existing/active members of the system11 community and you have to rsvp on there.

P.S. I work by you in Oak Brook and am playing a PDGA tourney on Sunday in Oswego :>

If that means shmups.system11.org, then I'm totally an existing/active member, but I didn't rsvp :(

I'll go to one of these things eventually. I'll show off my mad skills of buying shmups and then not playing them.

The book that comes with the LE is hardcover too right ? Looking at the picture posted on the last page, it appears it is, but has anyone seen unboxing pictures of the LE around ?

exactly why I take CAVE news with a grain of salt, and said I have my doubts about it being their last shmup.

I wonder how many people here would still be surprised if CAVE released another 360 shmup port.

I'm would not be. I'm really expecting another two years out of the system for releases. At the very least we will see more things like Shooting Love 10th or Ginga.

I know you wouldn't be! but there's a lot of people who think the news of multiple port related blogs closing down and CAVE stating that SDOJ would be their last port meant they were done with the 360.

for all I know, it might be their last 360 ported title...
but I remember a near dozen times when X title will be their final shmup, Y title will be their last region-free title, Z title will be their last port.

I just think we should cultivate the idea that while more CAVE is always good, shmups don't necessarily need CAVE to survive.

I mean there's someone in the other thread bemoaning the death of the genre for pete's sake.

still have G.Rev, Moss, Grasshopper coming out of the woodwork, Treasure who may come out of nowhere with project RS3.. etc.
even random indie devs creating games like sturmwind.

but to some people, the death of CAVE could mean the death of shmups for them if they never branched out.

Well the Cave closing?/restructuring thread reminded me to look into how much I can get MMP/PS now, and a 3rd Party on Amazon is selling Cave the bEst for $33 after shipping. So that's a plus.

And for anyone curious, various 3rd Parties are selling Dodonpachi Saidaioujou LE for as low as $160~ after shipping.

I'm really nervous about my SDOJ order. I pre-ordered through YesAsia.com - they've already shipped, but some guys on this forum said it's taken months for their orders to arrive.

Depends. Usually about a month for me with free shipping. Not that bad.

Did their orders get caught in customs? I had a P-A order get caught for nearly a month.

I don't know how you guys swallow Japanese video game pricing, yet cheap out on the shipping for what amounts to like $5-10 in difference. You're already paying way more than you would be for a domestic release, just a little more and you have your game in a matter of days, not months.

Totally agree with this, especially b/c with FedEx you get a lot more tracking information.

Ha ha, true. I do do it so save a few bucks though. If I just dropped $80 on a game, I'd rather not add another $15 to that total.

If you're not in the US, more expensive shipping methods seem to have a higher chance of being charged with customs fees.

US buyers got no excuse though :p

at least your orders are being shipped... my standard edition at NCSX is still sitting at "payment received"... with a tracking number finally. have my doubts that it's going out today.
