I love that Arika themselves posted that.

"Someone finally beat a mode we made for a port we did EIGHT YEARS AGO, check it."

Any mega hard Cave games/modes left that haven't been cleared yet? Has Futari 1.01 Ultra been cleared yet? Or two loops of DOJ with the TLB?

I don't think anyone has beaten Futari 1.0 Ultra. Most players consider it impossible, as far as I know (then again, most players considered DOJ Death Label impossible as well). DOJ was beaten within the first year of its release, I think. So all that's left is Futari.

Unsurprisingly Cave is putting the spotlight on the non-shooter Vita game.

Good for them and all but....Ah whatever. I have like a bazillion of their prior games I should actually play.

For example I've put maybe an hour into MMP/PS.. I mean holy wtf.

good point. its not like most of us dont have multiple games we could be spending 100+ hours on.

i still need to pick up the MMP/PS collection. hoping for a cheapie version to come out soonish.

Finally had a good run in Futari Black Label Maniac

860,720,964 - ALL (Lx2/Bx3) - Palm

No missed up to stage 5, where I accidentally destroyed a lantern before I was close enough to get the bullet cancel. Made it up to Larsa's third phase before my second death, and my third death was a suicide for the endgame bonus. I made a few scoring mistakes here and there, so I think I could push 900+ if I had a "perfect" run with my current strategies (with 2 or 3 deaths on Larsa), but I'm pretty happy with this for now.

I see the world record is 1.5 billion... I have to assume the guy no missed no bombed the entire game to get such a ridiculous score. Makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

Nice. That's a great score.

The Futari defense force has arrived.

I have been playing Espgaluda , Dodonpachi and Deathsmiles on the iPhone. Enjoying them very much.

BUT

I want more.

I also have a psp, how is the shooter selection for it? Or is there some other obscure Japanese handheld I can purchase for my hunger?

On PSP is afair the Salamander Collection, a Gradius Collection and Parodius. Best Consoles for Shmups are: PC Engine, Sega Saturn, PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 (preferable a japanese system) is becoming the best console ever for this genre.

Have you considered stepping it up to console stuff? Or does it need to be portable?

Can anyone recommend a good website for importing the European version of DDP Daifukkatsu?
I imported my PAL Arcana Heart 3 from Zavvi for under £18 with free shipping. I'm waiting to see if I can find a similar deal with this.

Never ordered from Amazon outside the US. Do I need to do anything special? Foreign credit/currency?

Any new places where i can get a JP 360 for a decent price? Was just robbed recently and considering grabbing a new one or selling off the rest of my games. Not in the best mood at the moment anyways.

I don't mind console, just would like to have a decent portable collection. I'm on the go alot.

I hit the x as soon as I saw it was cellphone-related.

Seriously though I think I'm going to do it. My next phone is probably going to be one capable of playing Cave's releases.

I don't even know where to begin though. My idea of phone-shopping is going for the free upgrade whenever Verizon sez I'm due for one.

You can also play cave's iOS ports on current gen iPods if you're looking for a cheaper option.

Well, aside from current iPhone/iPod games, you can see in the teaser the Android logo. And they already stated that they are making a Windows Phone game, so "Cave World" next stage is to be multi-plataform in the mobile world.

I've noticed from Rising Star's website that the extra game modes will be sold separately as DLC instead of being included. Is purchasing them as easy as buying a UK points card, or what?

Yay, I beat Battle Bakraid (normal course) today! My final score was rubbish at only 3,497,660, but I'm terrible at collecting those medals. At any rate this game is really fun. Oh and I finally beat a shmup with a flying pancake type ship. d(^_^)b

I always considered those old 8ing shmups out of reach, but this one really wasn't too tough.

I really love the bomb system in this one, where you pick up several bomb fragments to create a new bomb. Very neat.

I think I'll come back to this game in a bit. Maybe I'll even challenge the advanced course one day.

I'd like to know this as well. How much DLC was released for this?

SH-3 games have been added to MAME 143u7. Slow speed and no sound.

Thanks for the heads up. this is surprising news - all this stuff has seemed to come so fast and all of a sudden, it's a little weird. Deathsmiles, Espgaluda II, Mushihime-sama, Mushi Futari and Ibara all working in MAME (to some extent). I wonder if the speed and no-sound will be fixed shortly?

I love it. So much easier than dragging out whichever console has the best port.

Speed has increased significantly from last night to tonight. The latest MAME build apparently runs the games at full speed (or close to it, I'm not sure if the slowdown is accurate.) Still no sound though.

Yeah, everything is running at a smooth 100% for me now, except for Ibara, which I can't get to work (which doesn't bother me much, as I don't really like Ibara - though I've only played the ps2 port, which isn't supposed to be very good?). If they get sound working soon that would be amazing, but, whatever... I've got all these games on 360 or ps2 so it's not a super big deal, but it'll be kind of a relief to know these are working if/when my j360 konks out.

Figured I'd give Futari BL Maniac a few tries. This is fucking hard. Why there exists a need for difficulties that go beyond this is mind boggling.

The angry dinosaur boss has snatched a life from me on more than one occasion. I am fail.

At any rate, I've been trying to figure out scoring a bit.

Is it mostly shooting things with the rapid shot and then cash in by killing big enemies with the laser?

Also the number value goes gold sometimes, it seems like it happens when I graze. Does this do anything special?

Feels very different from Futari Original.

Answer 1: YES

Answer 2: WHAT

You sure you're not playing God Mode?

The counter numbers right above the character seem to turn gold sometimes, the number on the top left of the screen doesn't seem to do that. Maybe it's just a little graphical effect.

You need to get your chain meter into the red with the rapid shot, then you quickly kill some enemies with the laser to fill your multiplier. Then, while you have zero chain meter, use your laser to cash in on high scoring areas. That's the gist of it.

You don't always want to cash in on large enemies; it's usually best to save it for a spot where you can fill the screen up with bullets, and the cancel them all at once. Prime examples being the flying crabs on stage 2, and the hives/lanterns on stage 3.

No idea about the gold numbers though.
