The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

Why is that? I've never played either one.

I haven't played the arcade version either, but after watching some videos on nico, the 360 version seems to be missing a lot of slowdown, which makes it harder for him to milk enemies. The highest Lei score on the leaderboards is 1.3 billion I believe, and I really don't see how his maximum potential could be much higher than that.

so, i just bought deathsmiles for my new 360, it's the first cave shooter i have ever played and i'm really liking it. could someone give my any advice on what other cave shooters are available (and worth buying) in europe? my platforms are X360, Wii, DS, 3DS and a 5 years old PC. Thank you!

In Europe there's only Dodonpachi Resurrection (with the Black Label DLC) for 360 and Guwange on XBLA. Akai Katana is coming Q2 2012. If you're willing to import, there are more games released as region free discs:

- Mushihimesama Futari
- Espgaluda 2 (standard edition)
- Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets

Am I blind or is there no info at all on those webpages?

"...for iPhone / iPod Touch"

That's really all the info I need right now. Just glad to see more Cave shooters coming to iOS. With the recent news regarding their investments into social gaming, it's nice to know iOS gamers still have Cave shooters to look forward to.

Port of Ketsupachi?

Anyway, really hoping this stuff isn't all of the "few shooting games" Asada was talking about.

We should still be getting that X360 game, unless it was one of the games that got canned or whatever. Hopefully it's a shooter.

DODONPACHI MAXIMUM for Windows(R) Phone 7
Developed by EVAC INDUSTRY

Thing to keep in mind about this release is that the CAVE dev blog has made clear it is an original game developed by the console/arcade team, not a port like the other CAVE World stuff.

"Maximum Bullet Simulator" makes it sound like this will be a "mini game collection" of sorts. Like the remix modes from the past console ports. I'm also getting a more abstract vibe from that site than anything story/thematically coherent. I'm thinking DDP will be a rRootage-like thing with neon dots and lines more so than planes and guns. Makes me wonder why use the DoDonPachi name?

We already know the bosses :
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/dodonpachi-maximum/achievements/
Ai, Byakko, Cinderella Amber, Seiryu and Golden Disaster...ring any bell?
and that there's 5 stages, a some achievements are references to Ketsui etc

so I'd be really surprised if the game is anything else than a "new" DDP thrown quickly together with a bunch of old sprites and backgrounds from DDP, DOJ, DFK and other cave games.

In other news(?)>
http://andriasang.com/comzpy/famitsux360_tease/
(please let it be the next cave announcement)
also if anybody could clear up when the "march" issues of xfamitsu is coming up, I would appreciate it (but I'm pretty sur it's not mars at all but more like late january...yeah I know...but don't ask.)
Edit: and DONE:
http://andriasang.com/comzq0/cave_new_titles/
There's just a week left in January, so whatever Cave announces, it will have to come in either this week's Famitsu (which officially hits newsstands on the 26th) or this month's Famitsu Xbox 360 (which hits on the 30th)
2new games so probably one being a 360 port, the other one being the Vita shmup...(?)

in other news:
http://andriasang.com/comzq1/darius_burst_ios/ (PSP port with new music ?)

Element Daughter A.I. is from DDP Ressurection, so I guess you're right. Also, laser bomb is back! Hells yea!

It begins.

Director of Akai Katana Shin, assistant for Muchi Pork/Sweets and director for DDP Maximum and Saidoujou gets his own blog.

Hopefully we'll get much more interesting content than the adventure-game focus Asada has been on for the past year.

I wanted to personally congratulate Gears of War 3 on being NeoGAF's STG of the year. You wouldn't think Epic could trounce Cave, let alone twice, but underdog stories happen. I thought it would be Uncharted 3, but that's an Action game.
lol

I'm trying to picture Gears as an STG and how it would work.

Maybe when you play as Dom and get hit by a bullet he could yell out "MARIAAAAAAAA" and he could fly around on JACK. I dunno.

I'm afraid I still have no effing clue what "games on demand " is, despite hearing it all the time. Poking around I am seeing this phrase applied to all kinds of places. How is this any different than just buying games off the marketplace or PSN?

Games on Demand are usually games that are retail games that are now available digitally. The only Games on Demand titles that I know of that didn't have US retail releases are the HD Resident Evil's and Deathsmiles 2.

It´s basically overpriced retail disc based titles available for download to your 360 HDD or flash drive, though there are some exclusives in the service like Crysis, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil CV, and Deathsmiles II on North American marketplace.

EDIT: Beaten.

Thanks. So do these have region protection? If not, then maybe we can finally get Ketsui on our NA 360s!

My hunch is that they will have the same region protection as retail releases do, it would be awesome if they are region free but like I said before maybe it would affect chances of ever being getting a small print run in the US

It says on the blog it's their first games on demand release locally so at least in the blog post they are specifically talking about Japan market. Worst case can you make a silver Jpn account and play the game from your US gold account? I haven't had a need to do that so far but this would push me over the edge

Region protected and IP locked AFAIK. Those titles have to be released on your local marketplace, but considering we got Deathsmiles II last year I´d say we have good chances.

I'm assuming Ketsui & Daioujou Black Label won't make it. But god dammit I hope they do.

They aren't published by Cave, it's not up to them to put the games on GOD. Cave could release their japan-only titles, though, like the standalone version of DFK Black Label (with the Ketsuipachi arrange) or Akai Katana.

Here's hoping these GoD games aren't just the previous region free releases (although those having more distribution in the west is not a bad thing)

daioujou definitely won't make it due to the copyright issues with 5pb using the code from the ps2 version, which is one reason it went OOP very quickly...not to mention the loading issues which were finally patched last year.

There's always a chance for ketsui, which it'd be awesome to open it up to more players since it's one of Cave's better titles. With the exception of akai katana shin, it's my personal favorite.

There is some article about Rising Star Games getting a US branch, the only other thing they need to do is negotiate for lower print runs and we can see more Cave etc niche games released in US and not just Europe

Oh my god, my ICade arrived today and the first game i tried is this:

imame-dodonpachi-small.jpg

I'm in STG heaven! :)

Heh, nice. That's a jailbroken iPad running MAME right? I wonder if Cave would patch in support for controllers like iCade or Invadorcade into their games.

So, uh, how the heck does that thing work, exactly? Everything I know about iOS development (not a ton) seems to say that shouldn't be possible.
