I don't particularly see any reason for praising Exia for being very functional in close quarter combat. That's something that a knight might do when he's not on a horse. I'm sure you'll generally find ranged combat to be rather more effective.

Because (lead) Gundams are all about close range

I know, but that doesn't stop it being incredibly illogical. I mean, building giant robots rather than building planes or whatever isn't really logical to begin with, as I'm well aware, but to see them battle with swords is always particularly egregious.

You're wrong.

But you're even more wrong. :(

I can live with Destiny since it gave us that Freedom vs Impulse fight.

My favorite fight. Great track playing at the end as well.

Yeah, so amazing.
I rewatched Destiny last year, it is GOOD. A it makes a lot more sense for the second time.
They definitely had a lot of pacing issues, but I remember Shinn being out for BLOOD, yo! :D

And the music is amazing. Tm Revolution is a God, one that is capable of singing beautifully on live concerts - that alone puts him in my favorites, easily.

Gundam Unicorn Episode 4

LOTS of changes from the novel in this one, a lot of which I understand is due to time constraints. Even without the novel comparisons, the whole Zeon remnants chapter feels rushed, and it's hard to sympathize with Loni, but overall it still worked for me.

My main problem with Unicorn so far has been Banagher himself, but he thankfully stepped up in a big way this ep. Really enjoyed his desert trek with Zimmerman, but more than that, LOVED the fight between the two of them just before he sorties. Great to see the main character finally man up. The dialogue between Audrey and Willie Nelson (lol) was a nice scene too; Char got CALLED OUT ("That man never learned to love humanity"). Also loved the return of Bright and the Amuro "cameo."

GLORIOUS MECHAPORN! Certainly the new, best ground battle in Gundam; lots of classic MSV models finally getting animated, plus a couple sick new designs (DAT BYALANT CUSTOM...Kou Uraki?). Animation was fantastic, new music was excellent. And Riddhe ftw with that last shot.

Anyway, I loved it, as per usual. Maybe not as strong an episode as the others, but still pretty damn great.

Exia's agility literally allows it to dodge most all ranged fire while it closes in on a foe; and it was designed for anti-shield/armor destruction, hence the emphasis on close combat. Seven Swords System and the GN Blade, cheaaa!

If my memory of the leaks serves me correctly...

RX-78 Gundam (AGE-1) evolves into 00-Raiser (AGE-2) evolves into Full Armor ZZ (AGE-3)?

Yep.

Looks more like Quanta than Raiser though.

edit - nvm, no it doesn't. :lol

The leak also suggested that AGE-2 transforms into a Waverider mode ala Zeta Gundam.

Gundam AGE-2 revealed (spoiler, obv)

So I guess that leaked pic of AGE-2 and AGE-3 was real after all.
It's...UGLY AS FUCKING SIN.

Just...look at the LEGS. LOOK AT THEM. Do try not to gouge out your eyes while doing it.

And it's so...boxy. It looks like its sole purpose was not to look good, but merely to make the gunpla easier and cheaper to manufacture (which it obviously was). Compare it to the Tieren on the last page, or Exia, or, hell, even Unicorn, and you'll see what I mean clearly.

Yup, 00 Second Season Simplification Syndrome all over this shitstain.

Are you in So Cal? You can drive to Frank and Sons toy show in City of Industry on Wednesdays and Saturdays if you want to find a couple dealers who are selling Gundam stuff as well.

To be fair, that looks to be a lower scale model, which sometimes are missing a bit of detail. I think/hope the show version/better scale models will look better and closer to what we saw before.

Man, Gundam AGE is such a fucking failure that even Bandai seems to be bailing out.

This was SD Gundam G-Generation 3D's cover when it was first announced:

3khlQ.jpg

Notice how Gundam AGE-1 was getting front billing as the brand new Gundam? Pretty normal. But now with poor ratings, and more importantly with SHIT model kit sales (the HGs are basically piling up in stores and getting heavily slashed in prices recently), Bandai has released a much more fan-friendly cover for the game closer to release!

High-res: http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/914xBKqyjcL._AA1500_.jpg

Notice how Gundam AGE-1 is now sadly shoved to the corner in the bottom left, no longer getting any sort of attention, while the front of the box screams "CHAR! AMURO! SETSUNA!"

Lololololol. Hino should just pack up and go home. I knew Level-5 touching Gundam was a horrible idea and I hope his shitty company dies as a result of this.

Level-5 kinda ran over his dog.

Well, replace the word 'kinda' with 'repeatedly' and the word 'dog' with 'son'.

Also, what gundam is the one right above AGE with the golden wings? It bothers me that I can't identify a gundam:

No way is that destiny.

Actually upon closer look I think it's one of the Gunpla Builder gundams.

Is that series any good? Even in a lighthearted sort of way? I know next to nothing about it.

It's not really a series. It's just 3 short episodes they originally screened at gunpla events and stuff. The designs are honestly pretty good, and the action animation is entertaining (and in 2D!). In total it's only like an hour long or something, no reason not to watch it if you're curious.

Oh, I thought it was series what with the various designs that seem to come out of it. But sounds neat, will check out.

There's fictional reasoning behind mobile suits, at least in the UC.

Wiki said:
The necessity of developing humanoid robots is also explained, albeit fictional. The fictional Minovsky particle pervasive in Universal Century is depicted as interfering with radar-guided long-distance cruise missiles, anti-aircraft guns, missiles, and all early warning systems, with weapons systems having to rely on human eyes. In Universal Century, the space-based Principality of Zeon rebels against Earth Federation, requiring a weapons system that could function in zero and normal gravity and be able to open and close air locks, plant demolition charges, and engage with enemy tanks and planes; with a robotic giant being an excellent choice. Once mobile suits have been developed by one side, the opposing force had to develop a similar system, just as British invention of tanks lead to the development of tanks in Germany, and eventually led to tank-to-tank battles.

More fictional "scientific" basis for Gundam/ UC technologies:
