It's nice that they're fixing the bad art sprinkled around the show. Are there any comments on if the show actually looks HD? Or if it just looks 480p upscaled to 720p? That's the main difference that would get me to rewatch the show.
They're not "fixing bad art" though. They're just selectively reanimating scenes which just look too terrible after the HD process, or scenes which absolutely cannot be cropped to look good no matter what.
Here's what they're doing: They are taking the original SD 4:3 show materials, and then they are recompositing it in 1080p 16:9. This means they are taking what are generally low resolution original assets (character overlays, backgrounds, CG effects, etc) and putting together the same show, except in 16:9 and in 1080p. This means that sometimes, you end up with a super cropped unwatchable scene. Not just upscaled, but unwatchable. So when this happens, they pony up some cash to their 2 cents an hour animators to redo the scene in full HD widescreen.
In terms of actual end result, it ends up looking like a mix between a new average HD TV anime, an upscaled early 2000s digital anime, and a blurry super upscaled cropped mess. All 3 types of scenes exists throughout the episodes so far. You know what other show looks like this, and was produced in the exact same way?
The Eureka 7 movie.
