The battle has to end really soon. Itachi can only use Tsukiyomi twice along with Ameratsu before he gets tired. So this will use a lot of his Chakra. Even though things look bad, I still don't see Itachi being killed by Sasuke here. Will he run away? May be. I think Ameratsu will mess Sasuke up and allow Itachi to either leave or gain the upper-hand before Naruto and company get close enough that they have to split. Honestly, can Kisame really outlive Itachi in the series? Itachi is one the biggest villains in the series and to see him be outlived by Kisame and even Zetsu seems kind of gay.
We've seen it's after effects, we haven't exactly how it's cast in the manga yet. Could be the instant blink of death as we saw it represented in the Narutimate Hero games, or something more akin to Kakashi's Mangekyou Sharingan Doujutsu(but with an explosion of black flame).Halycon said:

This chapter better be good. I'm getting sick of seeing Sasuke being so overpowered right now. Itachi is the main villain to Sasuke and to see him be taken out here sucks. Honestly, Sasuke hasn't surpassed Itachi yet, so somehow Itachi must escape and battle again. Kisame and Zetsu can't outlive Itachi in the series.

Hmm, I don't see Sasuke caring much about his team anymore since they've served their purpose to help find Itachi. So if he does succeed, I doubt he'll be that interested in lifting a helping hand for them.Kusagari said:

Yeah, but Itachi could live and beat Sasuke showing him he isn't at that level yet. Which I think a lot of people expected, not this elongated battle of Genjustu and Sasuke once again winning without much effort. Seriously, Sasuke needs to get his ass kicked so he comes back to Earth and it shouldn't be done by Madara, it should have been done with Itachi.Yoboman said:

To defend Itachi, he was worn out by the previous attack he did on Sasuke and was preparing for this next one when Sasuke got in a few cheapshots. Then again, when Itachi confronted Sasuke way back when and Jiraiya saved him, he used both attacks back to back and didnt seem to have that much trouble, although the fact that his eyes were getting weaker also could be a factor.
and I wonder what "that" jutsu actually is and also Sasuke still hasnt totally turned into CS2 yet and only partially used his wing.

And I still don't think Sasuke has a "THAT jutsu", there was no emphasis when Orochimaru said it. Would've stopped Sasuke from using anything at that point, as he and Kabuto didn't want to fight to continue.

I HAD been trying to get back into bleach, but FFS they fought with that 'science' esparda for a YEAR, and still don't think its dead yet.

Also CS2 is ridiculous....It was some curse given to him by Orochomaru, it should have dispelled....especially because it looks kind of cheese on toast
Finally caught up on OP and read Brook's backstory...really good! I teared up in the end ;_; I've really liked all the backstories and found them emotionally powerful except Robin's, which was just barely ok IMO. The page where the song ends and the last pirates are dying one by one was really good. Oda's writing still impresses me when he's at his best.
Bleach was lol as always.

In my opinion, Kishimoto has shifted the focus of the manga onto the plot rather than the characters (there was pretty much zero character development since the time skip). Since fights are usually character interactions, this means that fights have since lost all meaning as a method to develop character, and are now as entertaining as your typical DBZ or Bleach fight. The ridiculousness of Sasuke's fights only further adds to the problem (my general dislike for Sasuke not withstanding).
Without character development, fights are merely "filler" in between the relevant plot points. So really, I want these fights to be over with as soon as possible. I would like to see how Naruto and Tsunade get affected by Jiraiya's death, how Sasuke decides to move on after he kills Itachi, etc. Unfortunately, I think Kishimoto received orders from his higher ups to draw Team Hebi (Snake)'s fights as well. I expect the plot to be stagnant for at least another month.

Looking at the fights from the first part, each had significance, whether it was Team Kakashi vs Zabuza & Haku, or the fights in the Chunnin Exam, they revealed different things about the characters. Now it seems fights are just as because there's an enemy they need to get rid of (Akatsuki) but they no longer hold any significance for the characters involved

I too am really disliking this sasuke v itachi fight
I mean... Sasuke is winning this thing WAYYYY to easily...
And if he beats Itachi this easy.. then if he and naruto ever fight.. there will be NO reason what so ever to have Naruto win..
I mean.. at least have the two brothers have a HARD fought fight.. I mean this fight is supposed to be the crowning moment of Sasuke's life.. let it be alittle more dramatic than this..
Give him some depth.. make his DETERMINATION be the difference between the brothers... not his apparent super speed or his immunity to mangekyou
When Itachi pulled the one eye out I was Soo happy ... I was just thinking of all the places they could go with this... And then... boom... all lies... its ridiculous.. All i know is that Sasuke BETTER get some kind of eternal scar from itachi or I'm done with Naruto

I feel exactly the same way. Please make him lose something in the process. An eye, arm, whatever. I mean Naruto is pretty cookie cutter shonen to begin with, but chapters like in this arc are really dropping to the level of current Bleach which is pretty dismal.methane47 said:

The only difference between the current Bleach chapter and the Naruto one is that Naruto hasn't jumped the shark as much, so we give it some slack

Hmmm...personally I'd rather do a "SAVE ACE" arc since Ace is freaking awesome than a Mermaid island arc, but we already had Thriller Bark be a sidestep on the way to this island, so I don't know if Oda would do another side journey. Also considering we just did a prison break arc with Enis Lobby it'd be kinda redundant to do one again.
Anyhow I hope next chapter has Ace!

OP time is weird. They REALLY needed to get Vivi to Alabasta and ended up visiting two other islands along the way.
They could still do Merman before going to rescue Ace.
Then again, one might assume Merman Island would be a major arc, whereas Little Garden and Drum were relatively small affairs.
