Really, is that why it looks so good? You are telling me to not get used to this? I thought this was real next gen and everyone else is just playing catch up.
To each his own I guess. I was quite satisfied with that ending, and if there isn't another installment in the horizon, I wouldn't feel remiss by that ending.

There's the old man who was in the game since the start
There's Igraine who vanishes after she finds Gallahad's recovery spot
There's one of the main villains, Jack the Ripper, who's still there. I mean, he's revealed to be a villain before Lucan is
etc. etc. etc.
If anything, the ending felt a little hollow. Congratulations, you killed a half-breed while the mastermind who kept it all hidden walks out of there.
How the hell do they not have a collectible tracker in this game? Audio logs I can figure out what's missing via youtube but the photos? I have no idea where the photos could be.
Anyway, I give it a solid 7. Finished the game in 5 hr 34 minutes. Hard mode was a cake walk for the most part. Snipers have impeccable aim and the horde mode room from Chapter 15 was the only real tough spot.
It will be highly improbable to create another game as good/better looking as The order without the restrictiveness and controlled environment you encountered throughout the game. The only company that could possibly match/surpass this game in the future would be Quantic Dream.
Just finished up the last 1/2 hour after a marathon session of 8 last night. Wow... I couldn't possibly disagree more with the critics on this one. I absolutely loved it.
The gameplay, while perhaps not innovative with stop and pop gunplay and QTEs, engaged and entertained throughout. I particularly loved the sense of weight objects conveyed. Manipulating items gave them real heft, and even the lock pick minigame felt (and certainly looked) fresher than others I've seen.
Speaking of looks... hot damn, this isn't just the best looking console game I've seen, but it puts every other title at arm's length. The airship and bridge battle in particular set a new high water mark.
The soundtrack was beautifully engaging, and the voicework was just spot on across the board.
And no offense, Isi... but Lakshmi absolutely stole my heart.
As for the close,
when he's on the rooftops mid-credits as martial law has been declared... my inner "Gotham by Gaslight" geek was over the moon! The guy is fucking Batman, without the rights, BUT with Nikola Tesla in his corner! I'm sorry naysayers, but what the hell is there not to love about that?!
With those nods to the Dark Knight Detective, is it mere coincidence his name is "Grayson"?How about when he actually screamed "Where is she?!" ala Bale Bat circa The Dark Knight?
9/10 for me, true believers. I can't wait for the sequel.

Just finished. I actually liked the ending (as in the climax of the third act), but the suddenness and lack of resolution and "cooldown" to tie up loose ends is disappointing. It feels like you only watched the prologue of an epic film. But the epilogue is super hype. I can't wait for the adventures of
Sir Batman and his genius confidante Alfred Tesla, delivering vigilante justice to rebels, lycans and vampires in a London gone mad with martial law. Meanwhile Igraine becomes a cross between Commissioner Gordon and Inspector Javert, obsessed with capturing Galahad but then reluctantly working with him to fight against a greater threat. And then Lafayette just shows up like a badass at some point.
There is soooo much potential here for a sequel it's ridiculous. The story is blown wide open.
Overall I'm satisfied with buying this for full price.

I suppose that depends how many gains can still be made. It holds up well during heavy action scenes with a lot of effects, so hopefully slightly larger environments are possible for any future installment.
As far as I can tell, here are the main plot threads the game has presented at the start:
1. We begin with the Halfbreed war that is going on.
2. We find that there is a rebellion going on over social inequality
3. Lady Igraine wants Galahads d and m(arraige).
4. Soon, Galahad starts uncovering a conspiracy
I'll admit there are multiple other plothreads going on (Galahads growing friendship with Lafayette, Lord Hastings, meeting Runi, etc), but they all can be put under the umbrella of the conspiracy plot. So, of the 4 most major events happening to Galahad's character, I think this can be considered the main plot. Those other 3 were products of his life before being involved in the conspiracy and develop only as a result of the development of the conspiracy plot happening. So that's the core of the story.
I think what people are unhappy about is that the main plot (the conspiracy) is resolved, but none of the other major plots it touches upon are developed throughly enough.
For example, Rani. Galahad had obviously developed some more respect for the Rebel force and the person leading them, but what does that mean in the context of the ending? Is he going to join them now? Is he still against them on principle? Who knows. What about the halfbreed war? Was Lucan just a mole? Or was he a political leader? Has Galahad hurt the Lycan forces in any way aside that they have one less Elder? What about the Chancellor and Lord Hastings? Was the Chancellor just keeping quiet about Lucan, or is he permitting all halfbreeds to run amok because Lucan would have wanted it? Or does he still not know about hastings? Or did he know, but now with his son dead, will he unveil Hastings for what he is? And how does Igraine feel about this whole thing? Does she hate Galahad now? Or was she just doing her duty? She's one of his closest companions according to the story, so leaving her in the dark in regards to Galahads true character and then leaving the player in the dark of her more internal thoughts can be unsatisfactory.
The art of leaving a satisfying ending is complex. You can't leave too many unsolved mysteries. However, wrapping things up too much is equally unpleasant. Whether ending where it does is sufficient is up to individual people. The conspiracy plot itself was indeed resolved, and created a new plot thread of how Galahad will now operate now
that he's no longer part of the orde
r. But every other major thing introduced seems to be left hanging. For myself, I thought it was a good ending when I first saw it because it was just about the only thing I didn't expect from it, but now that I reflect on it, it comes off as incomplete.
The more I think about the ending, the more excited I am for the sequel. So much awesome potential. Ending discussion so spoilers obviously.
The ending was pretty much The Dark Knight but set in old England with a chivalrous edge. Galahad is the rogue good guy, who has all the Knights and police after him, framed for something he never did, and still fighting the noble cause. Love that Izzy is scorned and against him, whilst La Fayette is meandering in the middle. Having the one who loved you now distrust and even be after you, especially someone so capable, sets up for a great dynamic. And you also have vampires shipped out around the world, plus Tesla on your side as your armory man? Awesome. Get the feeling in the next one you'll be forced to take on some Knights, as well as vampires obviously.
So im done and It didn't really feel like a short game to me (explored a bit) i actually liked the story but the reveal didn't pay off in the game play segments. We see
the werewolves scaling the hospital pretty damn quickly but in the gameplay segments the vampires and lycans move at an incredibly slow pace. They're supposed to be threats but it just doesn't feel like it
For the sequel I'd love to see more human and supernatural varied enemies, fewer cutscenes, longer gameplay, a bit more exploration and a co-op
shouldnt be tied to the campaign.. maybe focused from the order/rebels perspective?
I'm not buying this for $60, but if a game like Red Dead or Red Faction Guerilla can be made with these level graphics, the Order has me excited for other third person titles coming out over the next 3 years.
If a sequel is possible everything is set for a great and original story: Igrane full of wrath because of Galahad's treason, Grayson exiled and being pursued, vampires with count Hastings at the head, a corrupt order by dark secrets, the man of the black coat, Lafayete being the only one you can trust inside The Order...
The main problem with this post, and i think the majority of negative reviews, is that you're comparing this game to other third person shooters. If you take this game for what it is and what it set out to be, it's a huge accomplishment.
Just finished the game. Probably took me about 6 hours. I really enjoyed it. I can understand it not being for everyone, what with all the cutscenes and stuff and the slow pacing, but I really liked the atmosphere and world. Hoping they get a chance at a sequel.
I just started and holy shit the graphics :O O_O. Seeing it on your own tv , being in control... is so much different than watching a short stream or video.

It'll be highly unlikely you would see another game in the future that follow in TO's footsteps with the way critics completely panned it. And with the current gen consoles struggling to barely output 30fps/1080p, there is no chance in hell anyone could accomplish a feat such as this in grander/less restrictive environments.
Beat the game and got the platinum this afternoon since I was snowed in, and I have to say I really liked it!
Visually, it's stunning, and the attention to detail is so impressive. I stopped to admire the visuals so many times during my playthrough that I probably added a few extra hours just staring at all the little details.
The sound design was also top notch. The voice acting was phenomenal, especially Galahad, and the score was amazing. I definitely plan to pick up a copy of it.
Gameplay wise, it was fun. It played like a standard TPS, and there's nothing wrong with that. I enjoyed it, and I really liked the science guns. That thermite gun is one of the coolest guns I've ever seen in a game. I also really liked the designs of the weapons; they all looked really cool.
My biggest issue with the game is with those dumb tutorial prompts popping up throughout it. They were a little immersion-breaking, and don't ned to be reminded about basic controls halfway through the game. I also feel that some of the cutscenes could've been made playable, and I wish the game was a bit longer, because I was really enjoying it. A collectable tracker also would've been nice; I missed two collectables and it took me a while to figure out which ones they were. I also feel the game would benefit from a new game plus mode, or a harder difficulty mode, or both.
The story and lore were probably my favorite part, but I can't help but feel like I was missing crucial information that wasn't in the game, or at least information that would help establish some aspects a little better. I loved the characters, especially Layfette, Galahad, and Lakshmi, and thought the story overall was pretty solid. The ending left me wanting more, and the lore and universe are so intriguing to me.
I feel like the game has a lot of potential, and I really want to see more games in this universe. This game better get a sequel, I feel it deserves it.

I received the game from Gamefly today. I've been playing for 4 hours and I'm currently on chapter 4 and so far I'm loving it! The Order is stunning and I find myself exploring every inch of the game to admire the attention to detail. So beautiful.

So I just finished this game (lol I never thought I would finish it today but damn, it was hard to put the controller down). Holy hell! What an ending! :O Almost everything is unresolved because the story is disrupted. Goddamn, I want a sequel so bad. I want to see
what Grayson is planning to do with The Order (he looks pretty much like Batman at the end lol).
I highly doubt any developer would be able to match the graphics you witnessed in 1886 without the reclusive conformity of level design that was evident throughout the game. As I mentioned earlier, only QD could possibly match what you witnessed in TO. Their design philosophy lends itself well to the so called "Cinematic" gaming.
From a hype perspective, while I fundamentally disagree with getting overly hyped by non-gameplay teaser trailers, I agree with viveks on this point.
The teaser trailer did leave some folk dissapointed when it turned out to be a linear story-driven TPS game without co-op/MP, as some people had hoped. But personally that's not the issue for me.
I think I had a post on this once, but even if teasers aren't representative of the final game, they're ultimately supposed to be representative of the game's overall vision of what they want to deliver as a game.
Sure, in the final game, the game delivered on atmosphere, unique weapons and graphical quality as shown in the teaser. But honestly, that wasn't the biggest draw of the teaser trailer for me. What I loved most of the teaser trailer was the implications of :
- a game that takes advantage of the fact that you were part of a group, fighting together against strong enemies. (so either co-op, excellent AI, and gameplay that in-corporates some amount of team dynamic eg. Mass Effect commands or MGSV Buddies )
- enemies that are agile, powerful and take advantage of a horizontal and vertical combat grounds (fighting lycans leaping from rooftop to rooftop)
From what we've seen, the game doesn't really deliver on those two final points.
I have a lot of strong opinions to share about this game.
Well first of all positives:
*I am confident in saying that as far as current gen consoles go this is the best looking game by a considerable margin. I was constantly amazed at the graphics and basically made 90% of current games out now look last gen. Everything was just immaculate. As far as a I am concerned this is the benchmark. In terms of visuals this is the current gen's Gears of War. I almost want to keep this game to show people the potential power of the PS4. The game deserves a 10/10 in the visual department... simply outsanding. This is also the only game in my life where I actually was confused if I was in a cutscene or if I had control of the character again.. the transition was 100% seamless at times.
*It wasn't just the technical graphics but the artstyle was impressive as well. The use of lights/shadows was effective to create excellent atmosphere.
*Voice work was solid, sound design was also ok.
*Game play was actually not as bad as I expected going in. It's a standard Gears of War clone only it's worse in quite a few ways which I will discuss in the next section. The controls were fine, the gun play was decent enough and the gun feedback was nice.
*The story, what was presented, was decent enough to keep you engaged which it did to me.
*I actually appreciated that this was a focused, linear game rather than yet another fetch quest heavy, open world, bug ridden collectathon AAA game that we have been seeing lately. Game was very light on collectibles which I prefer although it should've had more useful collectibles than the one presented (at least they enrich the lore which is still interesting enough). Just wished there was an actual tracker in-game so it was easier to collect the items because the replay value in this game is pretty much 0 (because no one wants to wade through unskippable cutscenes a second or third time, fuck that bull shit).
The cons:
*If this game was perfect in every single way and yet still had unskippable cutscenes I would still give it at max a 9. Unskippable cutscenes are a blight on the industry and every game developer who puts this out in their games (I am fucking look at you too Bungie) deserves to get shit on. It's pretty obvious why they did it.... instead of beating the game in 7-8 hours most players would've been done in under 2 hours and returned the game basically the same day they got it.
*Weren't the developers hyping up the QTEs with the branching stuff? I saw very few examples of those... more than 90% of the QTEs were the same all dreck you have seen numerous times already in other games. Completely uninspired bull shit.
*IMO the biggest disappointing factor about the game is not the game play but rather the story. I mentioned the story was decent for what was presented... but let's get real here folks it's a god damn sequel bait. The whole story arc is not even close to being complete and basically ends where it would normally be half way point for some games. So many developments left unresolved, this is probably the biggest and most prominent example of sequel bait I have seen in recent memory. For a game so focused on story it's unbelievable that they put out an incomplete story like this. Just when things start to pick up for the game, it ends and you are left unfulfilled and unsatisfied.
*I mentioned that game play wasn't the most disappointing factor about the game but it's still lackluster. The game provides almost no real challenge and has the same pop on shoot game play seen in Gears of War 8 years ago and it was done better in that game. The gimmick in this game was the bullet time thing which was kinda cool I guess. They forgot to add the dodge button from Gears of War so you had to wait for contact sensitive situations to do a roll. Another big omission was the lack of a 180 degree turn.... it's fucking unacceptable in this day and age to put out a tank control game without 180 degree turn.
*The enemy design in terms of mechanics was rancid. The AI is pretty dumb for the most part, you can beat 99% of the game by just sticking to a cover and just popping enemies behind cover. I am talking about Hard of course so please don't even go there. The one interesting enemy design in the game the Lycan is mechanically a completely awful fight. It has one attack and one AI routine behavior... it comes in and attacks and then runs away to come and attack you with the same move. And the Elder Lycan fight?
LMAO that's basically just a big QTE fight. The developers thought that Eldar Lycan fight was so fucking good that they had you fight it AGAIN as the final boss!
The only enemy in the game that was worth a damn were those armored guys which carried a heavy weapon like a Thermite weapon. Again I am going to make the comparison to Gears of War and again the Order falls severely short in its enemy design compared to a game that came out 8 years ago.
*The weapon options/design in this game was unsatisfactory... that is like one of the biggest selling points of a shooter. I liked the Thermite Gun and the Arc Gun (which is over powered as holy fuck) in terms of ingenuity... and that's about it for unique guns. All other guns you had seen before. I thought the whole point of this game was to bring in some new type of crazy weapons? Was not really impressed and doesn't even come close to some of the stuff in Gears of War (a machine gun with chainsaw? come on now son).
*The couple of stealth missions were cool... except it was very limited in scope and it was the insta fail variety. Pretty sure it has been accepted that it's a poor design element in game if you insta fail if you get spotted. Not that the stealth missions were hard or anything but it was a glaring flaw in today's landscape.
Overall the reviews were right to give it those 6 or so scores. The game has very obvious game design faults that needed to be called. Some of them weren't even in conflict with their "cinematic" style, it's just really common sense stuff.
As far as the sequel goes... game needs an overhaul. I honestly believe that they should keep the exact same graphics engine (just do slight touches) because even in 3 years these graphics would be good enough but instead focus entirely on creating a real fucking game with actual game play. Cut down on the QTEs, bring in better enemies, better weapons and better encounter design as well as bring in some new game play ideas to the table that shake things up. Also the game play is good enough to have a multiplayer component as well as some type of Horde mode or extra features. And please no more fucking unskippable cutscenes.
Right now Order 1886 is a Gears of War clone that is 30% game play 70% interactive cutscenes/contact sensitive actions/QTE + regular cutscenes which being a much worse game in terms of mechanics, weapon design, enemy design and encounter design. That ratio needs to be reversed and the game's design has to be improved dramatically. If they fix these things it could be a very good but right now it simply isn't.
Game is being sold back tomorrow. That has to be a record for me. And it's not because I think it's a bad game but because there LITERALLY is nothing else for me to do with the game.
Just got the Platinum, I really, really enjoyed this game. I can see it being sort of like a movie that I love, revisiting it from time to time and enjoying the ride. I didn't find it that short, since it took me a good two days of playing quite a bit. I liked where the story went, even if it was
unresolved
. The reviews being harsh on the game because it wasn't one thing and was something else is a bit weird. It happens to be a well made game that I see as part movie, part game, and as a fan of games like those that Quantic Dream makes, I think this sits well in the ranks of cinematic games. Ready at Dawn made something special, and you have to give it to Sony to give them the reign to do this on such a grand scale.
And it's beaten. Were it not for the rushed cutscen-laden chapters and the over usage of quick time events
(especially the last encounter)
, then the game would be an easy 9 for me. As it stands, it was still a very enjoyable game with some amazing production values, great gameplay and a story that I want to see continue. So, if I had to slap a number beside it would have to get an 8 from me. I loved it, even with it's flaws.

Got it today and made it to Chapter XIV. Took breaks to study. Playing it on Hard.
Impressions:
Graphics are incredible. Some things aren't as good as others (Lucan's eyes and hair are distracting) but as a whole, the game is easily the best looking out there. The black bars are not distracting at all.
The sound is incredible, too. From the soundtrack, the gun sounds, voice acting, and specific nuances (the lifelike squeak when you step on stairs and the sound of the grenade traveling through the air) are super terrific. An amazing capturing of detail.
The shooting is quite good, too. The guns are varied and carry weight. Each should be used accordingly.
The character development is very good. Galahad is someone everyone can sympathize with. I like the development with Tesla (?) and with Lafayette.
Some bad things:
The cover system is not great. I found myself getting stuck to walls a few times.
The scope of battles is very narrow. The game really wants you to handle encounters specific ways so you're often flanked and you don't always see it coming.
The Lycan battles are dull and lack tension. Spamming the [X] button is a guaranteed dodge.
I feel like that's about it, in terms of flaws. The game is clearly well done and I think it got a real dead fish handshake from reviewers. The lack of player control is really blown out of proportion and the amount of gameplay is more than sufficient. The cutscenes are a bit frequent but they haven't been long. The QTE's aren't that ongoing. Most just require 1 button.
But yeah, unless this game nosedives the last couple chapters, I think The Order got a real raw deal. It's very obvious to me that RAD wanted to make a more cinematic single player experience. Some things could be better, but man, some things are really good here.
I would put this right with the Uncharted series and oddly enough, the game reminds me a lot of The Last of Us.
For all its faults it's pretty god damn undeniable that Order is the benchmark for visuals of this generation of consoles in terms of non open world games.
There are times where you can damn near mistake it for controlling a character in a real life environment. That is how ridiculously good this game can look.
