How exactly does it work? Can you just hold whatever you're scanning close to the Upad or do you have to put it on that exact spot?
Close enough. Doesn't have to be directly on, though. Just close enough.

I'm really not a big fan of the NFC reader's location. Seems very unintuitive.
I see the gaming side threads are starting to heat up, and someone went up against bish of all people to get banned
are you guys staying safe?
the console wars bs is just not worth it, Nintendo has a lot to prove so stop defending them on the gaming side... just enjoy what they are bringing and shut up guys
I believe it needs to be within centimeters of the reader so you pretty much have to touch whatever it is your scanning to the controller.
EDIT: Damn, sorry for the double post. :-/

I told him not to post that.
This is interesting. He actually calls that spot a "...NFC reader/writer..." That seems to confirm that it can transfer info to other NFC devices... not just read as some speculated.
I feel real good about how close I got with these.
It's kind-of a mix between realtime chat and a forum. Iwata described it as communicating through time and space If you say something, then log off, and I turn on my Wii-U, I may see your Mii saying that thing. If I'm already looking at the screen and you say something, I'll see it immediately. This is a feature I'm deathly afraid of - imagine every time you turn on your Wii-U it's like reading the IGN or GameFAQs forums. Only worse because half the people are just drawing dicks. Because it's not just your friends, it's everyone in your nation that is playing the most popular games, or the games you are playing.

I'd doubt it.well at least the OP survived that one I wonder if he is able to post new threads
SkylandersYeah, that's one thing that surprised me in the video. Any ideas of what can be the use of the writer?

But it means more plastic crap at overexpensive prices to unlock all of the game's content! Yay!
I was shocked to see he wasn't banned when I first looked at the thread. Then I checked it a few minutes later and he was banned. :-/
So if the Miiverse is the new home screen, I'm very interested to see the navigation for the Wii U. I think every screen you have to go through to get to the actual game is an impediment to turning the thing on.
I wonder if MS are now consulting their legal team. It's a pretty blatant rip off.
silly troll, I'm not even going to grace you with a respectable response.I wonder if MS are now consulting their legal team. It's a pretty blatant rip off.
Look at the bottom right corner of the Miiverse screenshot. That's what will take you to the main layout, which (if the icon on that bottom-right tab is any indicator) means we're back to Wii Channels, but hopefully a much better implementation of them.

You're quite the repository for MST3K related gifs and pics, and that is awesome.

I really don't think MS wants to get embroiled in lawsuits over ripping someone off. Something about stones and glass houses.

LolI seem to remember MS having several patents about gamepad design and button layouts. And they are generally not shy when it comes to protecting their IP.
Oh shit, they must have had a meeting to vote on it :3
damn I guess the Miiverse will be the only place for us creepy Ninthings
Guys STOP DEFENDING NINTENDO! these baits are to weed you out

it would be amusing if they went after Nintendo
I don't think it would work... I'm sure there are plenty of patents Nintendo would love to serve but they don't want to look bad... they need someone to start it

well thats that.
Nintendos guiding philosophy. "Creating something unique". LOL.

How is he right? That crap happens in nearly every single thread on Gaf and in every forum on the Internet for that matter. Flame wars are not exclusive to Nintendo threads however they are the most clear cut on both sides of the spectrum. Nintendo threads draw in just as many devoted fanboys as they do haters. Opinions are like assholes and such.well thats that.
honestly he is right though.
edit.
Eh. They can be a bit lazy when it comes to the Pro controller. After all, it's more of a me-too product by its very nature. Frankly, I think it's a worthless addition to the landscape designed to appease the most narrow-minded of people, but that's neither here nor there.
