The Year Without An Xbox: How will Xbox not putting forth an effort to sell Xbox Series consoles this year affect the gaming industry going forward?

Cloud Gaming grew 45%. They aren't worried about selling few more consoles. They just expanded into India, which is the largest gaming market, over 500 million gamers.

For hardware, they are going after the premium hardcore userbase of Pro consoles, with Magnus. Users with the highest spend capacity and usually highest attach rate.

Can you expand on this? What objective data are you using?
I mean this holiday the other devices are front & center being bought up for the holidays while Xbox consoles are pretty much sitting this one out.

So just "trust me bro."

If you had data that proved a VR headset and accessory device were selling more because Xbox is selling less, that would have been a more interesting thread.

The hell are you talking about?

What data do you need other than reality?

Expanding the user base? You mean Xbox refugees seeking asylum on Play Station, Steam and maybe some on Nintendo.

But that's it. Those are the effects of consolidation; the weaker ones go bye-bye.

My brother in law asked for a series S for Christmas, his last console was an OG xbox one.

My sister in law paid more for a Series S than she could have paid to get a PS5, but he was adamant he wanted an Xbox, what on earth.

I hear that stated quite often, but that demographic isn't anymore interested in a next gen Xbox than any other demographic is. I am in that core demographic but after this gen, I wouldn't even contemplate purchasing the next Xbox.

Selling more Xbox hardware decreases their profit margins, and CFO Amy Hood set a 30% margin target in 2023. Coincidentally that is the year where we started to see Xbox hardware sales backslide.

I swear I had a conversation about MS not wanting to sell Xbox Series consoles somewhere around that time 😭

Post in thread 'In the event that PS5 Pro does release in 2024 but there is no new Xbox Series console because there is already Series S & X' https://www.neogaf.com/threads/in-t...-is-already-series-s-x.1654173/post-268253214
a better question might be 'how would putting forth an effort to sell xbox series consoles this year affect the fact that no one really seems to want one?'...
You could sell almost anything with the right amount of effort.

Right now Sony is selling a Remote Playing device & you think Xbox couldn't sell a cheap Xbox Series S right now?

well, you could also sell more series s' at their former price ($380) than their new one ($450), so, you'd have to ask ms whether or not they actually think so...

Phil would make a good heat miser. I feel a song coming on, but crafting the lyrics would take more effort than I can muster...

They made decisions that helped landed them in that position even though it was outside events that made it worse.

As long as Sony and Nintendo are able to maintain 100m+ userbases alongside the push for everything( outside Nintendo) to end up on PC, Xbox's participation as a hardware manufacturer nowadays is neither here nor there. Just them even releasing another Xbox now seems more like having something on shelves for hells sake and not because there's wide market demand or hype for the brand at this point. I mean I dont think this has been a great( strictly speaking first party output) gen for Sony but clearly even with shit market conditions and economic downturn they can still move consoles. Many of the issues affecting Xbox are because they've become extremely proficient at pointing a shotgun at their own foot and never missing.

I don't think we have ever been in this situation that we're heading into,

I believe it will be the Wild Wild West with companies releasing devices to get a piece of the pie but not much structure.
