THEATRHYTHM Final Fantasy Announced for 3DS...

Don't worry, my friends.

This is just the beginning of a new era. I,"King" Wada, will be a playable character. Can't wait to dance teh Cuban Pete with Lightning.

Stay tuned.

Rhythm games are huge in Japan, and with this chibi style art no doubt this is targetted towards Japanese audience.

If this is not your taste, I don't blame you, but this does have some potential in Japan, don't dismiss it just yet.

This is like the favorite game I own that I've never really played. I really need to sink some time into it. I've just been scared to ever since I bought it, because I both don't want it to consume my life or want it to end.

.....

wat?

I think this is pretty cool.

I was thinking recently that FF really needs a "music game".

I was hoping for DDR Final Fantasy Mix, but this will do.

While I like New Ip I'm very happy buying games that are apart of franchises I love so I'm good with this. The pics I saw are cute as hell and until the Dissidia line gives me reason to doubt it I will be excited and expect a fun time.

A RACING game? With CHOCOBOS?

Pft, Squaresoft keeps selling out. The company I grew up with is dead to me. *dropkicks FF8 into wall* Shut up Mom I don't have to clean my room!

I've convinced myself that Type-0, Dragon Quest X and Versus XIII are all vaporware and that we won't see any new RPGs internally developed from Square Enix after XIII-2 ships. Portable or otherwise.

They're beyond the point of no return right now. Their best bet is to just clone other successful games like Gameloft and stick FF/DQ characters in them.

This is what makes this thread so funny. I wonder if the same people who were complaining about Square Enix's western centric showing at E3 are in this very thread complaining about this new announcement.

Let's hope it turns out to be something interesting like The World Ends With You...

what concerns me it's the chibi-style :D

Theyre gonna pull a Crystal Defenders and take a game genre and just add an arbitrary RPGesque leveling system.

I can't wait.

I've seen it!
It's SO CUTE *.*

Give us a trailer to judge Square!

I said the same thing with FF9...

Nothing against chibi, I was concerned about the execution of that :P

There can only be one explanation...
Clearly Cosmos supports classical music, where as Chaos wants to fill the world with hard rock, and thus another war cycle begins!

Scenario A: This game sells poorly
Square: "I guess that means there's no market for Final Fantasy games on the 3DS!" *Square abandons all 3DS development*
Scenario B: This game sells well because 3DS owners want to show Square that there's a market for real Final Fantasy games on the 3DS.
Square: "I guess that means 3DS owners only want rhythm games!" *Square Enix announces THATETRHYTHM 2: Kingdom Hearts Mix, cancels all other 3DS projects in development*
Nah they're not Capcom.

Oh..wow! :O!
I though it was impossible for them to create an even more ridiculous name than Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy 012WTFLOL..or whatever that was called... :O!

Game concept sounds nice though.

Sounds like it could be a cool little game but I hope this wasn't the new game Nomura was talking about being announced in the next Famitsu.

Edit: Wait nevermind. I guess this is the new game he was talking about. From Andriasang

Update 14:00 -- As Nutters pointed out in the comments below, this is likely the new game that Tetsuya Nomura was teasing for next week's Famitsu. Jump usually gets Square Enix info one week in advance of other publications, but Famitsu will usually have a lengthier report.

THE RISE OF THE HANDHELDS (NDS, PSP) KILLED THE JAPANESE GAMING INDUSTRY.

Square Enix will no longer focus development budget on the big console games that made them great in the past so they are no longer making enough money to fund the other high budget risky games.

I will say this... This is going to be huge in Japan.
I mean... It has to be.

I was thinking the same.
It's not a bad idea at all pulling out a project like this and ON 3DS.

I'm curious to hear who is behind the project btw.

Hey you finally were able to change your avatar.

And you no longer have the own3d tag. WHO ARE YOU WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH TABRIS' PERSONA

Is this the title Nomura hinted? lol

Square Enix will put the name Final Fantasy in almost any game nowadays.

Oh look, another game that's Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, or Final Fantasy.

We're still at zero games in other brands announced from Square Enix Japan.
Everyone's on board with the thought process "SMALLER PORTFOLIO, LARGER QUANTITY OF SAME BRAND"!

First time I saw it I was like weird title for TWEWY sequel, Kagari really went overboard with the title to fit it all in, then I read the OP

My face:

Kagari = Locke reporting the news

Me = Ben

You know what, I'll give it a chance. We haven't seen a damn thing about it. The World Ends With You would have sounded like it would have never worked in the beginning. Who would have thought a game that had a battle system where you controlled two characters at once in real time would have worked?

I do wish this was "Theatrhythm TWEWY" instead

Er... Why does the logo look so much like Dissidia's? There's even Cosmos and Chaos.

It looks kinda intriguing but still, I feel this game's looks looks as unoriginal as it can be.

It was already mentioned that this is a Dissidia spin-off, and it's story will be related to the overarching Dissidia plot.

This is pretty much Dissidia: The Rhythm Game. It's Final Fantasy fanservice in a non-RPG genre.

If this allows them to experiment with quirky titles like this, I don't really mind. At least the FF name gives them a bit of visibility and maybe allows for such experimental games in the future too whereas a game only named TEATHRYTHM (or... something more sensible) with completely new characters & shit would probably go largely unnoticed by even some die-hard SE fans, no matter the quality of the game.

This sounds like it could be fun in a Patapon kind of way.
