Trump Refuses to Support Paul Ryan, McCain, in Primary

I seriously can't overstate how much I want this to fuck Ryan over

For it to hurt Paul Ryan, Trump's gonna need to hit back (which he'll probably do) against Ryan's "we don't want your endorsement" statement and flat out state that he endorses his opponent.

Edit: Fuck me, clicking that Ted Cruz picture only makes it bigger.

Ok guys I am in full conspiracy mode now. Trump is most definitely a Democrat plant to destroy the Republican and ensure a Clinton win.

He has done irreparable damage to race relations and what people find acceptable discourse or thought in America.

This theory is ridiculous. He really is just a shamelessly disgusting man.

He would have forgotten that this was the plan by now. He's so deep undercover that he doesn't know what's real anymore.

No. It's just what happens when you have a nominee that doesn't have a single care for the party they're running under and is in it for themselves alone.

The GOP could lose every single Senate, House, and Gubernatorial race open this year, but if Trump won the presidency, he'd consider it a success. That's all he cares about. And even then, it's probably not about the actual work, just the title.

Oh god, the only thing worse than Trump.

One of the very few good things about Trump is that he proved you don't need the religious angle to appeal to voters anymore.

It's twofold, like you mentioned.

A party that isn't unified will lose the support of people who lose belief in that the party can listen to them. If the GOP don't support Trump, then Trump won't win. But the GOP can save face, but it will fracture the party because you do have some Republicans legitimately backing Trump. If the GOP support Trump, and he loses, then that will taint all the people who supported him in the future. "But you supported this racist bigot, why should we support you in the future?". Basically, anyone who isn't a Republican, likely won't become a Republican in the future until the current GOP is eradicated. And they also lose those who were Republicans but don't agree with the racism.

Something I mentioned a few months ago:

Will "I didn't pander to Trump" be the new "I didn't vote for the Iraq War"?

I think that's getting more and more likely, now.

Everything Trump does makes me think he is intentionally loosing for Hilary.

I mean everything he does is political suicide and when it barely affects him he tries harder and harder, plus he ripping up the GOP with every step, just seems to me winning is not his interest.

That and back in the day, everything he tried to do was career ending, how the hell did he do it with the intention to win?

It's not intentional, this is completely in line with his public persona that he's had his entire life.

He's not a Democratic plant, he's a genuine ignoramus who was able to take advantage of an extremely divided field and an incompetent cable news industry to find a slice of the electorate that could reward him for being a genuine ignoramus.

Agreed. Much as I hate Trump, I just can't stand Cruz. Makes my skin crawl.

The instant I regret that Trump had to win the primary, I am reminded that this smug fucker was the runner up.

Useful idiots are a thing.

Though this might be one you don't have to lift a finger for.

I do think a lot of why Trump succeeded is that no one liked or cared about the rest enough. Had there been someone genuinely like able they just might have gotten the nod.

But then this whole thing has been the result of Republicans digging this hole for decades.

And let's be frank, while the Democrats are somewhat more organized than the GOP is this year, they're not so organized where they'd be able to successfully pull of having a plant take the GOP nomination, run it into the ground, and destroy the party from within. And keep everyone involved quiet about it.

It's just incredibly convenient for the Democrats that Trump won the GOP nomination, is running it into the ground, and is destroying the party from within.

Well everybody always call the Clintons the "Clinton machine". Maybe they are that efficient :p I mean seriously this has to be the craziest election in modern history because of Trump. Clinton wants to make history at all cost y'all.

She lost a primary in 2008. They aren't supervillains.

This will likely be the narrative the GOP uses if it ever gets the spine to turn on Trump. They will blame Democrats and the liberals for Trump.

I hope this "Trump is a plant!" meme dies soon.

Trump continues to reveal how petty he is by echoing Ryan's words from before as an act of revenge.

No, he's just always been like this.

A good example of this kind of behavior opens Newsweek's recent article about his shoddy business record.

Newsweek said:
Donald Trump was thundering about a minority group, linking its members to murderers and what he predicted would be an epic crime wave in America. His opponents raged in response—some slamming him as a racist—but Trump dismissed them as blind, ignorant of the real world. No, this is not a scene from a recent rally in which the Republican nominee for president stoked fears of violence from immigrants or Muslims. The year was 1993, and his target was Native Americans, particularly those running casinos who, Trump was telling a congressional hearing, were sucking up to criminals.

Trump, who at the time was a major casino operator, appeared before a panel on Indian gaming with a prepared statement that was level-headed and raised regulatory concerns in a mature way. But, in his opening words, Trump announced that his written speech was boring, so he went off-script, even questioning the heritage of some Native American casino operators, saying they “don't look like Indians” and launching into a tirade about “rampant” criminal activities on reservations.

“If [Indian gaming] continues as a threat, it is my opinion that it will blow. It will blow sky high. It will be the biggest scandal ever or one of the biggest scandals since Al Capone,” Trump said. “That an Indian chief is going to tell [mobster] Joey Killer to please get off his reservation is almost unbelievable to me.”

His words were, as is so often the case, incendiary. Lawmakers, latching onto his claim to know more than law enforcement about ongoing criminal activity at Indian casinos, challenged Trump to bring his information to the FBI. One attacked Trump’s argument as the most “irresponsible testimony” he had ever heard. Connecticut Governor Lowell Weicker Jr., whom Trump had praised in his testimony, responded by calling him a “dirtbag” and a bigot; Trump immediately changed his mind about the governor, proclaiming Weicker to be a “fat slob who couldn't get elected dog catcher in Connecticut.”

For opponents of Trump’s presidential run, this contretemps about American Indians might seem like a distant but familiar echo of the racism charges that have dogged his campaign, including his repeated taunting of Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas” because she claims native ancestry. But, in this case, there was more to it than that: Trump, through his offensive tantrum, was throwing away financial opportunities, yet another reminder that, for all his boasting of his acumen and flaunting of his wealth, the self-proclaimed billionaire has often been a lousy businessman.

As Trump was denigrating Native Americans before Congress, other casino magnates were striking management agreements with them. Trump knew the business was there even when he was testifying; despite denying under oath that he had ever tried to arrange deals with Indian casinos, he had done just that a few months earlier
, according to an affidavit from Richard Milanovich, the official from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians who met with Trump, letters from the Trump Organization and phone records. The deal for the Agua Caliente casino instead went to Caesars World. (In 2000, Trump won a contract to manage the casino for the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, but after Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts declared bankruptcy in 2004, the tribe paid Trump $6 million to go away.) And in his purposeless, false and inflammatory statements before Congress, Trump alienated politicians from around the country, including some who had the power to influence construction contracts—problems that could have been avoided if he had simply read his prepared speech rather than ad-libbing.

It would be nice to pretend this was all part of some grand scheme, but the simple truth is that he just can't help himself from acting out when he feels under attack.

Lol, the Dems can't even talk about shitting on Sanders without it being known!

People keep bringing up Cruz like yeah there was a dude who knew what was up, but isn't he more of a cautionary tale for Ryan, McCain and other Republicans than anything? I don't think Cruz can recover from the backlash his non-endorsement generated; his 2020 prospects seem all but extinguished. I think that speech was the end of his political career.

Because he was the lone voice. Others need to speak up.

i imagine the GOP will revile trump in four years time. politics is always fluid (remember when iraq was a hot idea?)... cruz was playing the long game, and it'll probably pay off

I'll be honest this is the only way I can rationalize the shit he's been saying for the past several months.

The absolutely scary part is 40% of the population isn't in on the joke.

Republican donors have already told Cruz to go fuck himself for 2020.

If Cruz was looking for a head start on his next presidential campaign, this wasn’t it. “Forget about 2020,” says the top donor. “It’s a pipe dream now.”

He led the birther movement and tried to undermine Obama's legitimacy. That doesn't really seem like something the Democratic Party would want him to do so successfully. It's time to accept that Trump is an irrational, overly emotional old man with no idea of how to be a politician.

Trump's staff shouldn't be worried. Their reward for enduring this disastrous campaign will be in the form of lucrative book deals.

Trump won't even make it to November, he'll drop out before. That's what I think will happen anyway.

Trump's ego wouldn't allow it. It's too late for the Republicans to choose a new nominee anyway, so they wouldn't be pushing for it. At most, we may see the majority of his donors pulling out, killing what little campaign funds he had left.

Damn at that John Harwood tweet... Maybe the campaign falls apart by itself, with mass resignations. Manafort won't care as that's the mercenary life: you win some, you lose some, you get paid all the same. And he probably will get some publicity from this as the man that almost put a narcissistic psychopath in the oval office. Win-win.
