Ubisoft issues totally convincing response to Assassin's Creed Unity's resolution

I love how 90% of the comments on their press release boil down to "how f*cking stupid do you think we are?". Looks good on 'em.

Figured everyone would still complain about it.

Well nothing they say will change the fact that one console can do more than the other, and if they're the same on each system, then one system is not being pushed

All the statements in the world can't change that, they won't ever be able to say anything that will make everyone say "fair enough"

It's not even a "console wars" issue, apparently GTA5 ran a little better on PS3 than on 360, and no one had any issues with that, because the PS3 is a slightly more powerful console, but if Rockstar said they held stuff back so they'd be the game, people would be annoyed

PC gamers get annoyed when PC versions of console games are locked at 30fps etc, because they brought tech than can run it a lot better than that, this is exactly the same thing, PS4 owners don't want an inferior product because of a system they don't own

Oh wow, so perfect, even they are saying "get outta here with that crap"...

Vote with your wallet GAF..

It makes me sick that they don't say a single word about the differences between PS4 and XBox One.
They should stop acting as if the consoles have the same specs.

UBI must be freaking out right now over potential lost PS4 sales. When accounting is doing the books for next gen software sales I'm sure a bulk of them are projected for PS4.

I don't think resolution-gate will end up having a huge impact on sales but UBI can't stop talking and digging holes. So much for not wanting any controversy.

Well its better they finally just came out and said its 900p and that wont change. It doesnt answer any of the other concerns people had but more dishonesty and smoke and mirrors would have only damaged them more.

This sort of co marketing parity is a shitty practice and Ubisoft wont get my money. If I play the game I will get it used.

My eyes are firmly on Dragon Age and COD to see what they do.

Man, I'm getting super anxious now whenever MS gets into co-marketing deals :/

FFS, I did not anticipate this whatsoever when this gen started...

I already cancelled my june preorder and I won't buy AC:U unless they release a fully optimized PS4 version. Why should I play a game which is ignoring better and more capable hardware for the sake of parity? Their previous statement was very clear and so is my opinion of the game.

Proof. Everything is in germanese.

Perfect. That's the best response a consumer can give a company that disrespects its fans like Ubi does.

Nice confirmation bias. Who said that it would only be usable on one platform? The ps4 can handle things like the unused effects, but they were glitchy effects, that required a ton of fixing. Do you not understand that? When someone has to work on something, that means that something else goes unfixed. Something that may possibly be more important than a flickering shadow effect. It's not as simple as flipping a switch and boom suddenly the shadows work.

I wonder if Videogamer is going to get blacklisted now.

Remember when 1up got cut off from Ubi because they said AC1 was the repetitive POS that even they admitted it was by the time AC2 came around?

If the game has the exact same graphics on both consoles, then they are full of shit. Simple as that. Because one console is considerably more powerful than the other.

I'm not jumping on the pre order canceled thing personally. I'm a huge fan of the franchise and Unity does look awesome.

But I want Ubi to stop with the bull shit. Be honest are you going to use the extra power in the PS4 or are you going to just let that power sit. Its simple. Stop dodging the question and just be honest.

Hmmm they have done this before it seems.

Waiting for next-gen: why 'Assassin's Creed IV' won't make you buy an Xbox One or PS4
There are no actual gameplay differences between the current and next generation versions of the game. But the PS4 and Xbox One versions do feature a few neat tricks that make it look decidedly better than games you can play right now. A dynamic foliage system, for instance, instills plant life with virtual "bones" so that it can move realistically when a gust of wind passes by or you hop in a bush to hide. It looks great, and at one point the feature was a differentiator between the two generations
"It was important to us to make sure that we don't end up with two different games."

History repeating itself it seems, or is this a Ubisoft philosophy?

Sadly, I don't think the average consumer I. Knows about these issues or II. Will care about it. So enthusiasts that want the best out of their games, are kind of left screwed when companies do this. The only time that these companies get in trouble, is if it's a really big failure (like a game being broken like Battlefield 4 where even mainstream consumers get pissed off).

I do agree, that you shouldn't buy something that you don't support though. I know I personally won't be buying this now. But I don't see it making Ubisoft change their stance. I really fuckin hope this doesn't become the norm with other companies/titles this gen. That's really the bigger worry here.

Truth be told, and I am speculating here at best, it will not only grow but thrive in the absence of hard hitting journalism. And let's be abso-fucking-lutely honest- Most journalists out of major sites like IGN, GT, GS etc are pretty darn clueless tech-wise and have often been seen to revel in their ignorance.

The first major title (and I don't care if rustle some jimmies) whose developer may choose parity because they are in good standing with MS and their affection primarily lies w/ PC, is The Witcher 3.

Moving forth, much like all major changes which were thought to be abhorrent at one time, were only accepted as it "trickled" down into the gaming culture- micro-transactions, paid DLCs on the disc, season pass, locking online account depriving users of games they already paid for, etc, this one perhaps will sink in as well. It's up to Sony's first parties to deliver on the technical front now.

They easily could have shown a 5 minute video on a real PS4 saying "here's the unused effects working as is on the PS4, we removed them because they look pretty but have major usability issues and blah blah blah", instead they damage controlled.

Humor me - Put a price/developer time on what the effects would would have cost on average to implement/test if they were deemed required by Ubisoft.

But, how does that answer for the difference between the systems?
Does the PS4 version have more Npc? a more poblated Paris?

This actually really helps my wallet. Shadow of mordor it is then.

Between this and the tomb raider crap..I can't take developers/publishers talking to me like I'm an idiot. It makes other developers look so enticing sometimes.

Bullshit. Let's not take quotes out of context. They were solely referring to gameplay in that article. And in that regard, yes, the game is the same all across the board, but it's a different story when it comes to performance.

The PS4 version might be 900 but with a lot more bells and whistles than the Xbone version, and a much more stable frame rate

But Ubi might be in the awful position of not being able to say that because of a marketing deal with MS, so they have to stick with the "parity" thing even though they're not at all

Total bullshit ubisoft, it was quite clear what you said in the original statement, you are holding back the ps4 version because you don't want debates about the differences between xbone and ps4's versions. You are just insulting us now you bastards with your damage control, I'm finished with you for the foreseeable future.

Turning the effects on is not just flipping a switch either. You're oversimplifying how applying effects and running them work.

Already made my post in the other topic:

Wooooow epic bullshit.

No you fucking didn't. Who do you think you're fooling? Who the hell searches for words to describe an event happening and then falls on "We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff'?" That's someone describing a precise accounting of internal discussions that went on, and he was not supposed to share that shit out loud so he got caught.

How fucking dumb does Ubisoft think gamers are? Profoundly, apparently. The whole post is them trying to convince us how beautiful the game is (which is not the goddamn point), and then them saying nonsense like this:

No, that is not what gamers were wondering you gargantuan fucking liars.

To be honest that part in bold is so spot-on that every current and new thread on this subject should have it quoted on the first post.

yeah but that game had big differences between the versions
B1G_A1AN took that quote completely out of context. That quote directly refers to gameplay. So either he is trying to get away with taking a quote out of context, or he didn't read the article he was presenting.

I didnt preorder this game but I was going to buy it. I will however trade in AC4 and WD for whatever the next big release is from a non Ubi game.

Fuck this.

"Sorry guys we can't make it 1080p because we needed more brainless AI walking the streets doing nothing and adding the square root of fuck all to the game. Luckily we added in some more tedious as hell collect quests and tower clearances for you to do"

Shadow of Mordor is fucking awesome and you should be all playing it right now.

That is all.

Yes it is.

700 men developing and 7 years of building upon the game and SoM comes right out the gate and shows them how to do combat on their first attempt.

It's kind of funny that this is like the third time Ubisoft has had to damage control that guy's words.

You know, I haven't actually seen this in real gameplay. When I see Arno running around the city streets it doesn't look any different than in previous AssCreeds.
I remember pushing through crowds not being much fun in the original AssCreed.

Shadow of Mordor is fucking awesome and you should be all playing it right now.

That is all.

This man speaks the TRUTH

And if you start to get bored with the opening area theres a 2nd open world section that is quite a bit different visually and beautiful. And its 1080p and open world.

Shadow of Mordor is fucking awesome and you should be all playing it right now.

That is all.

I've finished it already. Twice. Request memory wipe? :(

Thought I became too powerful by the first playthrough and I like being the underdog so I played the entire game with only the mandatory upgrades from the story missions. I recommend it - it's a good way to increase the difficulty that a lot of people have been complaining about.

this whole thing is giving be the same sleazy vibes I got from MS back at the XBone reveal. All the 180s and that ridiculous interview at eurogamer with a dev explaining why esram isn't a bottleneck. Just keep digging that hole Ubisoft.
