Up to Act 4 on Hard. Act 3 was pretty damn hard. Thought I could get 3 and 4 done tonight but that proved to be a pipe dream. Not quite looking forward to the end game on this difficulty setting.
This is definitely up there on my top 10 of 2010. Amazing game.
I've noticed that this game really lends itself well to being watched. Every time I fire it up, my room mates grab some couch and just watch the insanity.
I can't wait to see some crazy awesome youtube videos showing some expert level play.

Good point man, even my wife who sometimes despises my hobby mentioned that this game "Looks pretty cool". She did not harbor the same feeling for Bayonetta :lol

She pretty much said in a sarcastic tone "What is this shit?" And then mentioned that her legs were way too long. That was the extent of it, she could never understand the greatness of the gameplay though...
Uuuuuuh...wow. That is pretty offensive, and I'm not easily offended.

For the most part, my female friends loved the idea of a sexy female character that was strong and empowered. They loved the shit out of the concept. They never wanted to play it, but thought it was great.

I completely get where you are coming from, and I did try to explain the same thing. But when she asked why lolipops were health items, I gave up on further explanation.

Just beat it. Clocked in a little under 4 hours for me, so I imagine without the cutscenes/forced first person segments, that it would be around 3-3 1/2 hours. Probably less with some planning/speed running. Having said that, it's still one of the most polished/fun games that I've played in awhile. Can't wait to get back into it and upgrade all of the weapons.

The final act was insane on Hard. I must've restarted 10 times. :lol
Great game. It is a shame that there isn't much replay value to it, but i still had a blast. Hopefully they can expand things in the sequel, if they get the chance to make one.
Yeah, I'm wondering if the clock starts at the stage name display and goes to the stat screen, with nothing in between being counted. Still, I didn't play the game that much. I do imagine I spent about 4 or so hours playing it. :shrugs:
Edit:
I'm sure it also doesn't count restarts/deaths and the like.

Actually, the game clock only records your successful playthroughs for each mission. It does not count the times you replayed a mission, and it doesn't count the cutscene length, either.
I'm a few missions into Act 2 I believe. Thoughts:
-Controls feel really natural and fluid
-Graphics are gorgeous
-Love the level designs so far, allow for various strategies despite being linear
-Explosions look delicious
-Boss battles are so epic and the quick time events are so exhilarating.
On the flip side:
-It's annoying when there's one enemy that has a sliver of health left that you have to wast time boosting around to find just to trigger the next section.
-The enemies are repetitive as fuck as is the gameplay. Not a bad thing, but still.
-There's an acceptable variation of weapons thus far but in most cases the game lets you get away with using the assault rifle for everything.
-The story is absolutely terrible.
The dark tunnel mission was beyond gorgeous and escorting the vehicle was actually a nice challenge against enemies that you couldn't see until the last second from the darkness.
Fighting the two mega mechs at once is the highlight of the game for me so far. They were pretty polite in that they waited their turn so it was really one at a time back to back, but it was still pure fun.
I've put a couple hours in so far, the game isn't moving along as fast as I expected. I suppose that has a lot to do with my play style, I zip around and stay on the offensive at times but I can also be kinda slow and in cover.
Also I have to disagree with some reviews that stated you never feel like you're a one man army, enemies don't focus on you and the teammate AI is surprisingly smart. Often my teammates seem useless or are lying around dead everywhere, and enemies, especially boss mechs, seem to only want my blood. Not really a complaint but it doesn't feel as realistically squad based as a review or two I've read claimed. Overall a ton of fun and a game any shooter or action fan should dig into this gen. I've got the Ps3 version and can't complain about it's performance.
this is incredible it seems like a modern variation of an old school shooter. like contra or something. i love the insane bullet hell type moments with lasers and missiles and shit coming at you from EVERYWHERE.
i only just realised its stupid to let yourself overheat because then it takes longer to recharge the.. stuff.. (i think?) i dont think i understand how ammo or the upgrades work either. :lol
I adore their Bayonetta guide, but had to import the hardcover from Europe. Is there any news on a similar hardcover for this, or is it just going to be the paperback? I only see the one version floating around on sites from both North American and European retailers.

Simply, when you pick up ammo, it doesn't just replenish you, it also adds EXP to that gun. I'm not sure if this is true, but I think you always level up if you're full and pick up more ammo for that weapon.
Upgrades are more like lucky drops that increase the level of that weapon faster than just ammo pick ups. If you see your level going down, it's possible that you've been dying between an upgrade and a checkpoint. Upgrades don't stay with you when you die, so you need to be careful when you get one.
Also, I think there's a set progression to how you upgrade. Some weapons are just bigger magazines, but others are larger splash damage radius, rate of fire, etc.
It's actually a lot deeper (but still very arcadey) than Jim Sterling suggested in his review.
I have to say I'm loving the Disk Gun. I had no idea you could melee the large robots with them. Makes it oh so satifying when you're cutting their limbs off. Mwahahahaa!
