Wii Mini: Exclusive to Canada | Dec 7th @ $99.99 (No internet, no GC support)

To be honest I've only played Mario Kart online, but I would definitely miss the Virtual console and WiiWare stuff (My Life As A King for example).

No online cuts out the Wii's biggest feature for most: Netflix.

Brilliant!
Don't worry, since it's Canada, our Netflix selection also blows!

And, guess what, Americans, we also don't have Hulu. STRIKE 2 FOR THIS SHITTY PIECE OF CRAP AM I RIGHT? /sarcasm

The only games with notable patching was the later Call of Duty games ported by Treyarch and Conduit 2.
And, if you're not playing online, it won't matter.

We're not third world enough for this no internet console I don't get it.

Maybe Triforce will come line up in Ottawa for one of these though. Would real rap with.

I suppose thats true enough. Wee system for your Netflix.

In terms of Nintendo's product range though I think they'd prefer to be pushing those types to the Wii U to get TVii. An even wider range and very competitive environment for TV and Film.

I understand the idea of it having those features. I originally thought that it was going to be like the rumoured Xbox media/arcade box. But likewise I can understand the market and profit being chased here.

So I think Nintendo has chosen the Wii U as the next product for them.

I think that in terms of pushing the Wii U as a media center it makes sense. But as you said before, the people buying this aren't looking for a Wii U. I think we both agree that it will service a certain market but seems a bit odd overall.

I love all of you saying this is going to confuse consumers. The Wii-U is and will be sold out all through the holidays. Nintendo is surely EXPECTING people to go to their local store, see that the Wii-U is sold out, and pick this up instead.

I might actually get one of these. Had fuck all interest in getting a Wii at this stage, but this is cheap enough that it actually might be a good system to have in my living room. Would be a good way to play through some of the Mario games with my son. Smart move by Nintendo.

Don't give a toss about missing internet connectivity or GC compatibility personally. Price is king at this point, so people getting lured in by these likely won't care either.

Too bad they couldn't at least bundle it with component cables. I like the design and agree with others saying it should be $50-$70 dollars.

Maybe post-Christmas it'll hit that price.

The side plastic frame should have been shiny

um... looked much, MUCH better in the box art. At least I nailed the power and eject buttons on my mockup :P
Still, I hope they release multiple colors of the mini.

Just buy a freaking used one with internet and BC for cheaper.

How is anyone supposed to download anything from the Wii shop channel, use the Mii Plaza, or any other channel? No internet is mind-boggling...holy shit, Nintendo.

Seriously?

FYI, in 2012 most people expect new tech products to have some form of Internet connectivity. Doesn't matter if they aren't hardcore gamers.

lol Thanks for proving my point.

The people buying a Wii six years after launch do not care about these features. I'll bet half of all the Wiis that have ever been purchased haven't even been connected to the internet.

I mean then again, lots of people would get a Wii for those "5-6 games I've wanted to play but never had a Wii for" and how many of those are online? Losing VC and etc sucks but if you want it just to play a handful of Wii games it doesn't seem that bad I guess.

Meh, this is clearly aimed for kids, not even casual adults, just kids... like 7 and under, so it seems fine for that.

Just like the original

There's not much need for me to pile on but I just hope that Nintendo revises this thing for the rest of the world to have internet. It's actually one of their better console redesigns but no internet if a big WTF.

The Wii is out 7 years.

Now we have:

- The Wii U (Nintendo's next gen system)
- Wii Mini (smaller version of the Wii, only in Canada)

Oh yeah, too much to comprehend...

Wii U sold out, parent asks "do you have the new Wii" (meaning Wii U), gamestop man says yes and gives her a Wii mini. Trollololol.

Ugly as sin. Horrible timing for a redesign. It's a Wii without the two things that make a Wii worth buying, GC BC and internetz. Bah!

Exclusive to Canada? Never thought I'd see the day. I almost feel obliged to buy one.

$99 feels like a lot for a Wii with no GC BC or Wifi, though.

Holy shit Nintendo, please move on. Your insistence on clinging onto the success of your past consoles is killing the new ones. The 3DS is pretty good proof of that.

Babbies first wii.
I nostalgia'd hard because it reminded me when my consoles where toy shaped :P

no internet sucks though, it could replace my homebrewed launch Wii. I guess I'll keep still plugged

And I here I thought the ps3 super slim was the ugliest console ever. This thing is in another world.

Not surprised it uses a top loader. I predicted that in the other thread.

That thing is damn sexy. I need a UK release date.

I don't need internet on a Wii anyway. Couldn't care less about sharing little Mii dolls, and I'm pretty sure I can live without the Wii shop as well.

To be honest, I need a new Wii Motion+ remote and Nunchuk which costs what, $70 to buy separately? I might pick this up for the extra $30 just for fun.

The no internet thing is stupid but for any of the major Wii titles which this might be purchased for, does that matter at all or is it the loss of VC and other apps that is the big loss?

Like if you just wanted it to play any of the good Wii games you missed, I don't think many or any of them have online play or etc. that you'd need connectivity for, right?
