My kids came home and needed to do some homework. Me playing mario on the TV was distracting them, so my wife asked me to pause or turn it off for a while. Without moving I pressed the TV button to bring up the overlay, turned the TV off and carried on playing.

That's what the TV remote option is for.

(Really only saves you a few seconds, but its one less remote to pick up, and universal make millions each year on universal remotes so its useful for enough people).

U have great kids !

Yeah "Super"Hub.

With those settings, and Googles DNS (separate test), it connects to Router instantly, but times out connecting to Internet. I am beginning to think it's Nintendo's end with server load.

Unless.. People are connecting right now oK?

Try 156.154.70.1 and 156.154.71.1 for your DNS.

Called Virgin, they CANNOT HELP.

It wont even connect to my router WITHOUT SECURITY ON.

It's fucking shit.

I'm with Virgin and it wouldn't connect with auto settings on. As soon as I put in a manual IP, Gateway and DNS settings (basically the same settings as your PC apart from the IP address) and it connected straight away first time.

It's not your router and it's not your ISP. It's the point at which the WiiU can't accept (or even ask for) an IP address where it fails.

I was fine with auto settings. I'm with Virgin so using their DNS etc, but using a Cisco router (superhub as modem only)

Try the virgin DNS numbers I quoted, and check your gateway is correct - if that's wrong you won't be connecting outside

iirc, your chosen DNS should not have any impact on whether or not you can connect to your router (only the Internet). If Google DNS isn't working for you, you might need to go into your router status page and find it there.

Does anyone know what range of games support the Wii U Pro Controller?

I specifically want to know about NSMBU and playing up-scaled DKCR.

You can get your primary and secondary DNS settings by using a laptop, go into a command prompt and typing ipconfig /all.

NSMBU does not support the UPro controller. The game requires tilt, which the UPro doesn't support.

No Wii games support the UPro controller. Wii support works exactly like it did on the Wii. (And the upscaling is almost unnoticeable... The biggest difference in image quality is the HDMI video output from the U is much less noisy and just generally much higher quality than the Wii's output. )

I just spent the last hour playing NSMBU playing exclusively on the GamePad while watching TV. SO GOOD. I absolutely LOVE the Miiverse integration and can't help myself whenever the game askse to write a message. Love it!

Now I'm downloading Trine 2. Wooh!

Lol, I'm the same way. I'm also surprised at how much I'm enjoying the novelty of hand-writing notes.

Thanks.

NSMBU isn't that big of a deal but I was really hoping to use the pro controller for DKCR. I haven't played that game at all yet partly because I don't like the ergonomics of the horizontal Wii remote. Oh well.

DKCR is a fantastic platformer that you shouldn't miss out on.

I also dislike the horizontal Wiimote ergonomics. Luckily, the Wiimote and Chuck combo works for DCKR, and many consider it the vastly superior control method anyway. Give it a shot!!

Contrary to what certain people will tell you, DKCR absolutely MUST NOT be played with the sideways Wiimote controls. This is precisely why the waggling ruins it for many.

If you use Wiimote+nunchuk the waggle controls feel great; alternately shaking them to do continuous rolls and ground pounds is genius.

i was so scared i would fall foul of the 'attempted delivery', but it turned up

connected to internet first try with no problems and downloading the update now

it seems to really dislike my monitor though. just refused to display anything for ages, then suddenly came up in 480p. i have it plugged into the dvi-d port of a computer monitor via an hdmi->dvi-d cable.

when i set 720p in the initial settings, which my ps3 and 360 are both capable of doing on the monitor, it just goes blank.

hoping after the firmware update and using the settings in the console something will work, otherwise i will be doing my hd wii u gaming in 480p...

Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper finished its 16 gig download as I left for work this morning... Impressions later!

Also, Nintendo REALLY needs to get Wii/Wiiware/Virtual Console playable on the GamePad. Like seriously.

I doubt we'll get Wii specific stuff, but I'm sure they're currently updating the WVC games for the WUVC. The only question is whether we'll get free updates of our current games, which I'm doubting will happen because Nintendo.

Man, I hope we do - hell, I'd pay $10 to play all my WiiWare/VC games on there. Playing Wii games would be optimum though - especially in taking care of my backlog. Feel like doing this would give Wii software a longer shelf life too.

GAF quick answer - Warriors Orochi 3 or Tekken Tag Tournement 2?

Ordered Sonic but want one more and can't decide out of the 2 >__<

Warriors Orochi 3! I need co-op buddies :D

Thanks guys. I had not known you could use remote + nuchuck controls. I love that scheme. This had made the difference of me playing it.

Are you connecting to the router and NOT Internet? Or failing on router?
Holy fuck it worked. I had to go through the steps exactly to the dot. But I have internet. Good god! Seriously die in a fire Nintendo. If a somewhat tech-savy person like me has such a difficult time just to get an internet connection then you know you fucked up.

I don't think you actually cancelled the update. If you check the home menu and tap the right-most option for download management, you should see that the update for the game is still downloading. It'll install the next time you launch the game.

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
My Miiverse avatar in the upper left corner is a blue question mark. Why?

No idea. Very curious, but that blue ? icon makes me suspect the Wii OS is a web-app.

Just btw. is the white LED in the upper left of the Wii U always on to look cool, if the U is turned off or is it actually indicating that there is a disc in the drive?

I'd be alright with a flat fee as well. Super Metroid in bed alone would be worth the cost of admission. I just have a voice in my head telling me to expect no less than $3 per title.

On a different note, which second-wave launch window titles are y'all thinking about buying? I could easily see myself getting Lego City, Rayman, Pikmin, W101 and MHU. Knowing I'd be able to get all those soon after launch is what convinced me to get the console day one.

FUCK!

I promised I wouldn't. I was going to sell it and make some buxxx but I was weak.

updating now :-(

Really impressed with the build quality. The gamepad doesn't feel as cheap as people made out. Only seen the white setup screen so far and screen quality don't seem great.

The console isn't as big as people make but the power brick is, but at least it's light. Love the black gloss. Sad that the stand isn't as good as the Wii stand....if you can even call it that!

Nice to have a HDMI cable from day 1 though! Love how the pad just melts into your hands!

Once it's updated, I'll loading up Nintendoland for the ultimate betraylton to everything I believe in.

Trust me I will hate very second! Where's the cheapest place to get NSMBU?

Not seen any Warriors Orochi reviews, any good?

I've put like 50 hours in the PS3 version. Game is awesome.

Here is my quick hitting review:

1) PS3 version is the better running version overall. However in the USA it's digital only.

2) Wii U version looks close with some slow down and missing some enemies, but the base content is the same. Plus you can stream the game to your pad I believe.

Buy it. There are well over 100 characters to use with a bunch of cool guest characters. I'd put the PS3 version slightly ahead due to performance. If you are adverse to digital, then get it on the Wii U. If you want to play on your pad without the TV on get it on Wii U. Either method, buy the game, it's great.

the gamepad actually has a really nice screen. i was expecting DS quality blown up to be big but its almost on par with the vita screen.

i take it no one else here is weird and using it with a computer monitor?

if i'm stuck with 480p what are some good 100% otvp games to get?
