Arg...When I play NSMBU in 1080p (which the tv can handle) the screen keeps going black for 3 seconds every 5 mins or so. I called Nintendo, they think it's probably the tv and I should try it on another set first. I'll have to take it somewhere, cause I don't have another HD set.
.

Maybe a bad cable or connection?

When I hooked my Macbook up to my TV at 1080 vs HDMI the TV would work fine for a while then automatically switch inputs to something else eventually. Wiggling the cable fixed it.

Nah, I tried another HDMI cable and another port on the TV, same issue.

So did this first update take forever for anyone else? It's been an hour and a half and I'm about 25% complete. I really just kind of wanted to mess around tonight...oh well.

Took me well over 3 hours.

Guy the WiiU isn't region free right?

So If I buy the UK version I won't be able to buy games on the US Nintendo Store?

The thing about all the points you cited is that only the issue with account binding and the poor quality of the bigger 3rd party launch ports are the really serious issues.

I appreciate your level headed posts especially during every GAF meltdown, but as far as the things that matter to me... well, let's just say only is not the word I would use.

On top of that, I somewhat disagree, a 1GB firmware update and an absolutely abysmal OS are serious issues regardless of how temporary they may be.

Hoping things look brighter by the time Wonderful 101 and Bayo 2 arrive.

I've been very impressed with the launch. Update took me about 45 minutes, and I wouldn't have given it a second thought if it weren't for GAF.

Love Scribblenauts. Mario is great. Seeing Nintendo shit in HD is magical in its own way, just due to the novelty.

My favorite aspect is that because my bedroom is directly above the TV's room, I can play console games from bed. This is huge for my wife, because she falls asleep earlier and now I don't have to stay downstairs anti-socially so long as I'm playing a Wii U game.

And that's of course contingent on this thing getting some software.

Seriously, when you get a call notification from Wii U Chat, by the time you actually get Wii U Chat open and running the other person has probably hung up. Ridiculous.

This slow shit barely passed muster on the Wii back in 2008. Today? Unacceptable.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet but I just checked Google Trends out of curiosity and found that the Wii U was #1 trending. Very impressive.

how is the firmware update a serious issue? when I got home from midnight launch last night I skipped the update and went straight into mario with my fiancee, when we were done playing the update had finished downloading in the background and installed itself.

Guys, should I return my 2 games that I bought from Best Buy and buy them from Target (b1g1 50%off) instead? Or will Best Buy match that and return some money?

(haven't opened yet)

Playing Mario, watching The Walking Dead, and using Wii U gamepad to browse channels periodically : Priceless!

Not the smoothest of launches. But I see tons of potential here.

Target is B2G1 50% off. Toys R Us is B1G1 40% off. If you have a TRU nearby it might be worth it.

Nintendo hasn't had quality on the seal for years now.

At least in Europe, the seal of quality is still on most (if not all) games: Just check your Skyward Sword case, for example.

you're exaggerating. go drink some tea or something.

People are expecting a console launching in 2012 ("next gen", as people like to say - not that such a qualifier means anything) to have a functional operating system that isn't extremely slow and is missing plenty of critical functionality (Cinch audio with HDMI, Account transfers, ...). This is a completely reasonable expectation. Nintendo may better this in the future, but for now, the Wii U is a mess.

The first (and forever last) time I tried to price match something at best buy, the dude told me it has to be a set price, it can't be percent off. But you could get lucky and try.

btw, the remote feature is great but you have to keep one eye on each screen as he channel nums don't show n gamepad.

im very srongly contemplating not hooking this up to a tv at all and keeping it in a centralized area where i can use the gamepad from both my living room and bedroom

How the fuck can i go online with this shit?????? Someone please help me out here.

I have tried everything and i even went and bought a damn Wii LAN Adapter and this shit still does not connect, i have removed the cat5 cable from 360,PS3 (Which work just fine) and nothing....I have yet to update this WII U and i got it at midnight.

every device works but i think i might have gotten a wii u console that does not work.

Any tips?

It is fantastic. The game looks amazing and there are zero technical hiccups playing on the big screen or the gamepad. I'm very, very happy with my purchase
Ditto. It's also nice being in the top 10 leaderboards...for now.

Mine is Gamepad only until I get my new TV within the next 12 days. Keep in mind I only have Nano Assault Neo.

For anyone curious, the Nintendoland update alone was 228MB... if every game got similarly high update sizes and you managed to buy 4-5 games, you'd already be almost out of space on the 8GB model after system update. Basic model is definitely the "tard" bundle.

Does anyone have any advice for dealing with Nintendo customer support? My Wii crashes when transferring data to the Wii U and they want to charge me $107 (after tax) to repair it. For that price I could just rebuy everything on the Wii U and still come out paying less.

I've heard that they sometimes offer discounts for longtime Club Nintendo members but I'm not really sure how to even go about doing anything about it.
